Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

124: It’s really strange, so strange it’s frightening.A series of dense ’tap-tap’ sounds came.

The soldier on night watch inexplicably felt a bit panicked and immediately checked. At this sight, he was so shocked that all the blood in his body seemed to freeze.

He saw that one by one, row by row, in neat formations... the Devil Frogs were all silent, continuously using the barbs on their long tongues to scrape the wall as if digging holes.

If given another three hours, they would surely be able to scrape through the three-meter-thick wall.

The night watch soldier dared not delay and immediately reported the observed situation via walkie-talkie.

Upon receiving the news, Gu Xiheng and the others did not hesitate in the slightest. They opened the armory, each grabbing a suitable firearm, and rushed to the wall.

Fully armed, everyone’s faces showed no fear; instead, they looked eager, as this was a rare opportunity to hunt monsters using just pistols.

”Young General, you really predicted it correctly. They actually came back for a surprise attack,” said Yan Li, who was beside Gu Xiheng, holding a submachine gun with both hands, his face full of admiration.

”It seems these things are quite intelligent, knowing to dig the wall silently. If they succeeded, we’d be in big trouble,” said Mo Li, holding a powerful Type 95 Assault Rifle, as he leaped to Gu Xiheng’s side.

”Enough talk, attack quickly!” Gu Xiheng raised his gun and took the lead in attacking.

Cheng Siyu faced the Devil Frogs for the first time. Her cold, clear face showed no fear as she waved her hand, sending out hundreds of Ice Blades.

Originally, she thought her Ice Blades covered a wide area, so at least one would hit a Devil Frog’s right eye.

Who knew that the Devil Frogs, which seemed clumsy in the face of gunfire, sensed the Superpower and instantly became very agile. With their long tongues flicking in and out, all the Ice Blades were knocked away.

”Don’t use your Superpower; you can’t hit them with it. Use a gun!” Gu Xiheng, seeing Cheng Siyu’s actions, remembered that no one had told her the Devil Frogs’ detailed weaknesses.

They had only said the Devil Frogs’ weakness was their right eye.

Cheng Siyu then understood why they were all using guns. She had thought it was because their Superpowers were too depleted from daytime use, forcing them to rely on firearms.

Understanding the key point, Cheng Siyu skillfully drew a pistol from her waist and joined the gunfight.

The Devil Frogs outside the wall, discovering that those delicious humans were again using unknown things to shoot at them, all covered their right eyes with their long tongues.

With their right eyes covered, the Devil Frogs instantly became impervious to bullets.

For a moment, the Devil Frogs, which had been rapidly taking casualties, stopped dying.

But without their barb-covered long tongues, the Devil Frogs could no longer continue damaging the wall.

Thus, both sides formed a strange balance.

As soon as the Devil Frogs’ long tongues were no longer covering their right eyes, bullets would immediately shoot in, and their entire heads would explode.

Seeing this situation, the Devil Frogs dared not easily remove the long tongues from their right eyes.

And the base side also stopped shooting, as continuing would be futile, just wasting bullets.

Both sides faced off for a long time until the sky gradually brightened, at which point the Devil Frogs retreated in an orderly manner.

”Xiheng, look at how orderly these big toads are retreating. What does that indicate?” Mo Li leaned close to Gu Xiheng and said thoughtfully.

Gu Xiheng glanced at Mo Li and twitched the corner of his mouth. ”You’re thinking correctly.” He turned his head to look at the Devil Frogs retreating in an orderly line like a troop in the distance and continued:

”It indicates that there is an intelligent leader among the Devil Frog group.”

”Yes, this Devil Frog leader’s intelligence is not low!” Mo Li added.

Gu Xiheng nodded. ”Devil Frogs fighting individually are not hard to deal with once you find their weakness, but if they have a unified leader giving orders...”

”Then they won’t be so easy to defeat,” Mo Li interjected.

Plant Research Base.

Ai Yue, on a whim, went down the mountain and caught a Devil Frog. However, what she didn’t expect was that as she carried this Devil Frog up the mountain, it suddenly became restless and anxious, its eyes filled with terror, struggling desperately.

Although Ai Yue didn’t understand why it had become like this, she still didn’t let go, allowing it to struggle.

The higher she went, the more fiercely the Devil Frog struggled, making it hard for even Ai Yue, a Strongman, to control.

Ai Yue controlled it with all her strength; she wanted to see what was going on!

When Ai Yue dragged it near the Plant Research Base, the Devil Frog suddenly let out a miserable ’croak,’ and then, without any warning, with a ’bang,’ its entire head exploded.

Ai Yue, unprepared, was splattered with brains all over her head.

”What’s going on?” Ai Yue looked at this scene in disbelief, utterly puzzled.

What happened?

What on this mountain could make it self-destruct?

Abnormal, too abnormal!

Ai Yue couldn’t help but feel a chill in her heart.

Frowning, she quickly walked down the mountain.

She was going to catch another one for an experiment.

Finding a lone Devil Frog to catch was not difficult for Ai Yue.

Soon, she dragged one up the mountain, but the final result was the same.

This Devil Frog reacted the same as the previous one: the higher she went, the more violently it struggled, ultimately letting out a wail and self-destructing its head to death. Luckily, this time Ai Yue dodged quickly and didn’t get splattered with brains.

Ai Yue experimented two more times, with the same results, and only then did she have to give up.

In the eyes of Ai Yue and the others, this mountain had nothing strange about it; it was just an ordinary mountain.

And there were small animals in the mountain’s forests, living well, so why did only those suddenly appearing Alien Insects dare not approach here?

This was too strange! So strange it inspired fear.

Unable to find a specific reason, Ai Yue stopped thinking about it, setting it aside for later.

Ai Yue flashed back into her space, intending to wash off the filth. The moment she entered, the space vibrated slightly.

If she weren’t extremely familiar and sensitive to the entire space, she wouldn’t have noticed this tiny vibration.

What caused it? Definitely not Ai Yue herself; most likely, it was the Devil Frog.

Ai Yue didn’t bother washing up or changing clothes. She immediately flashed out of the space and moved the headless Devil Frog outside into the space.

Placing the huge body in an empty area of the space, Ai Yue stood beside it, carefully sensing, but there was no change or abnormality.

It seemed the Devil Frog’s corpse was useless.

Was it the head?

Or something inside the head?

But Ai Yue was very certain there was nothing special inside the Devil Frog’s head.

Ai Yue didn’t know what the space needed. She decided to go down the mountain, continue catching Devil Frogs, and search for answers.

Ai Yue’s skills were now very formidable. As long as she wasn’t trapped in a monster encirclement, she could escape smoothly. With good luck, she could even wipe out any Alien Insects she encountered.

Ai Yue quickly caught three Devil Frogs, using their long tongues as ropes to tie them up. She didn’t take them up the mountain; instead, at the foot of the mountain, she tried to knock them unconscious.
