Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

117: I’ve finally settled down in this mountain.”Sis, how did you find this place? There aren’t any Ancient Centipedes here, and the environment is so nice.” Ye Rui ran up and down excitedly, holding the shrunken Da Wang.

Da Wang, nestled in her arms, looked around with interest. For him, it was like revisiting an old haunt.

”Ah, a rabbit!” Ye Rui suddenly cried out, pointing excitedly at a rabbit that had just flashed by.

Da Wang was startled by her sudden shout and couldn’t help but roll his eyes at Ye Rui. What was the big deal? He had seen them when he played on this mountain last time; he’d even eaten one!

Ye Rui was truly too excited. Since the Apocalypse, under the baptism of one natural disaster after another, she hadn’t seen any other small animals besides humans.

Seeing a small animal out of the blue, the heartfelt joy was beyond words.

”Sis, this place is like a paradise. It’s as if it hasn’t been touched by the natural disasters at all.”

”When I first came, I didn’t think there was anything special about this place. Looking at it now, there was a reason it was chosen as a Seed Bank,” Ai Yue said as she walked.

”This place is good. No people, no Plague of Insects. It really is a good place for seclusion!” Ai Guosheng sighed with a face full of satisfaction.

Half an hour later, the group arrived at the Plant Research Base located halfway up the mountain.

”Oh dear, what a pity for such a nice building to be corroded like this!” Ai Guosheng said with a look of regret.

”It’s fine. We’ll live underground,” Ai Yue said nonchalantly.

Everyone followed Ai Yue underground, though Da Wang didn’t follow. Instead, he lay at the entrance, lazily basking in the sun.

The group reached the underground area smoothly. Ai Yue was certain that no one had been here since she last left, which relieved her greatly.

Ai Guosheng and the other two reached the underground area and looked at the empty transparent rooms, still feeling very amazed.

This place had once been simulated into an environment suitable for storing seeds, but unfortunately, it had failed.

The entire underground was dry and didn’t smell of dust at all, making it very suitable for living.

However, ever since she entered, Li Shilan felt very oppressed. Her chest felt heavy and very uncomfortable.

As time passed, a pained expression unconsciously appeared on her face. The sharp-eyed Ye Rui noticed her abnormality and asked, ”Auntie, what’s wrong?”

Ai Yue and Ai Guosheng immediately looked at Li Shilan together and said with worried faces, ”Mom, what’s wrong? Where does it hurt?”

”I want to go up and get some air. It’s too stuffy here,” Li Shilan said, her face pale and her forehead covered in a cold sweat.

The group hurried to take her back to the surface.

Back on the ground, Li Shilan visibly recovered.

”It seems I can’t live underground,” Li Shilan said helplessly.

”It’s okay. Since you can’t live underground, we’ll live on the surface. If there’s danger, we’ll just close that door. Staying by the entrance is fine too,” Ai Guosheng said immediately.

”Yeah, it’s not a problem. We can find a room, fix it up, and still live here,” Ai Yue said with a smile.

There was no danger here at the moment, so living outside was no problem.

Ye Rui also nodded repeatedly in agreement.

Da Wang, who was lying at the door, shook his body and jumped into Li Shilan’s arms to nuzzle her.

Li Shilan smiled comfortably, stroked Da Wang’s head, and nodded.

”Then let’s go. We’ll find a room that isn’t too badly damaged and clean it up.” Ai Yue stood up and began picking a room.

Not far from the underground entrance, there really was a room that was still habitable.

”This is it. After sweeping the dust, I’ll put out the furniture and we can live here,” Ai Yue decided.

The group busied themselves efficiently. In just half an hour, the somewhat dilapidated room was completely refreshed.

After putting in the furniture, it really looked like a home.

They cleaned up two rooms in total: one for Ai Yue and Ye Rui, and one for the couple, Ai Guosheng and Li Shilan.

Originally, Da Wang’s bed was arranged by Li Shilan’s bedside, but who knew he would carry it in his mouth to Ai Yue’s room and place it by her bed.

This behavior of his made Li Shilan very sad, feeling that now that Da Wang was older, he disliked her and was no longer close to her.

Da Wang ignored Li Shilan’s complaints and ran out, lying under a tree to pretend to sleep.

After tidying up the house, Ai Yue took Ye Rui to scout the entire mountain, finding nothing unusual.

Compared to when Ai Yue last came, many small animals had appeared on this mountain, running around in the woods and giving a sense of vibrant life, though there were no traces of birds.

Ai Yue’s family settled down in this mountain, living an enviable life of seclusion.

The group didn’t worry about food or clothes. Just outside the door was a vast green forest, and there was no danger.

Their current divine lifestyle was exactly what everyone wanted after the Apocalypse.

This place was uninhabited for hundreds of miles, so she wasn’t afraid of her secrets being discovered. Thus, Ai Yue boldly stored and took things out.

The first meal they ate here was the hot pot they had missed for a long time. Everyone ate to their heart’s content.

Especially Ye Rui, who cried while eating. It had been too long since she had eaten her favorite hot pot. Since the Apocalypse began, she could only eat hot pot in her dreams to satisfy her cravings.

Ai Yue and the others would eat a meal like this every day until everyone didn’t miss hot pot anymore.

After the hot pot, they ate barbecue, satisfying their appetites for a full ten days.

But everyone also suffered from excessive internal heat, inevitably getting blisters in their mouths and acne on their faces.

In the days that followed, their meals became extremely light.

Having satisfied their cravings, Ai Yue decided to resume the daily special training. After all, this was the Apocalypse, and there was no telling when danger might come. They still needed to maintain their physical functions and reaction speeds.

Their daily lives were relaxed and cozy, except for those two hours of Ai Yue’s special training, which were painful. Even Da Wang didn’t escape Ai Yue’s special training.

Although everyone had Superpowers, physical function was still very important, so they could only endure the pain.

Two months passed quickly.

That day, Ai Yue planned to use a drone to patrol the entire mountain. She also took out the walkie-talkies and the satellite phone.

She thought that if they went wandering in the mountains, they could use these two items to contact each other in case of an emergency.

Ye Rui was very interested in the drone, so Ai Yue gave it to her to play with and patrol the mountain at the same time.

Ye Rui happily took the drone and other equipment to a side to fiddle with them.

Just then, a satellite phone beside Ai Yue rang.

Ai Yue hesitated about whether to answer. She guessed it must be Gu Xiheng or Gu Yan calling; only the two of them knew this satellite phone number.

Moreover, in this world, those who could own a satellite phone were powerful people, so it could only be one of them!

After some hesitation, Ai Yue decided to pick up and hear what the other party had to say.

Sure enough, a booming voice came from the receiver. ”Xiao Ai, it’s Gu Yan. It wasn’t easy to get in touch with you.”
