Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

129: He seemed determined to follow her.Ai Yue looked at it acting so human-like and frowned. What species of toad was this? Judging by its appearance, it looked exactly like a Devil Frog, and it also possessed a barbed, long tongue.

Only its size was a bit small, and the color didn’t match. Most importantly, it seemed to possess significant intelligence and understanding.

Ai Yue, hiding nearby, felt her legs getting sore and couldn’t help but shift slightly. This small movement startled the blissfully absorbed green Devil Frog.

Its eyes sharpened, and it suddenly lashed out its long tongue towards Ai Yue. With a ’snap,’ the object shielding Ai Yue in front of her was whipped away.

Ai Yue was exposed.

She took the opportunity to stand up, meeting the gaze of this bright green Devil Frog face-to-face.

The Devil Frog visibly froze for a moment upon seeing Ai Yue.

Its previously sharp gaze immediately became dull and vacant.

Ai Yue looked at the oily green large head, pondering in her mind: this Devil Frog is clearly different from other Devil Frogs. Could its right eye be worth even more?

Thinking of this, Ai Yue narrowed her eyes, preparing to make a move.

The Devil Frog opposite her sensed the murderous aura emanating from Ai Yue’s body, and it immediately adopted a pitiful expression.

It bent its hind legs in a posture resembling kneeling, stood its upper body up, held its front two legs together, looking as if it were begging for mercy.

Ai Yue found this spectacle strange, so she paused the action she was about to take.

She wanted to see what trick this Devil Frog was trying to pull.

”Croak, croak, croak-croak-croak...”

Seeing that Ai Yue did not proceed with her attack, it transformed into a silly, cute appearance, looking at Ai Yue with large, watery eyes, appearing completely harmless.

Ai Yue snorted coldly, unmoved. She had just seen it eat five dead bodies. Who knew if it would eat living people? But she suspected it definitely would.

Just as Ai Yue was about to strike again, the Devil Frog blinked its large eyes and shed two streams of tears, actually starting to cry.

Ai Yue was instantly intrigued. She hadn’t expected it to be so perceptive of human emotion. Well, since it hadn’t actually attacked her, she would spare it this time.

If she encountered it again committing evil deeds, it wouldn’t be too late to deal with it then.

She waved her hand at the Devil Frog, ”Alright, stop putting on that pitiful act. I’ll let you off this time. You had better not eat human corpses again, nor attack innocent humans, understood?”

A flash of light crossed the Devil Frog’s eyes, maintaining its vacant look.

”You didn’t understand what I said?”

Seeing the frog’s utterly confused expression, Ai Yue laughed helplessly, ”What am I doing? Did I really think it could understand me?”

Ai Yue shook her head and turned to leave.

The Devil Frog quickly followed.

Huh?

Sensing its movement, Ai Yue turned back sharply, ”What are you doing following me?”

The Devil Frog retracted its neck slightly.

”You, change your path and don’t follow me! Not killing you is already generous enough. If you keep following me, I will kill you!”

Ai Yue pointed at the Devil Frog, staring at it with icy eyes, giving a serious warning.

”Croak.”

”I’ll take that as agreement...”

”Croak.”

Ai Yue gave it one last look and used her Extreme Speed Superpower to leave quickly.

The Devil Frog watched the direction Ai Yue left, tilted its head, and a hint of mockery flashed in its eyes.

Afterward, it unhesitatingly continued chasing in the direction Ai Yue had gone.

As evening approached, Ai Yue found a suitable spot to camp and decided to spend the night there.

As the sky gradually darkened, Ai Yue felt a slight chill, so she built a bonfire, roasted a few sweet potatoes, and contentedly watched the stars begin to light up in the sky.

”Croak.”

A faint sound drifted over.

Ai Yue frowned; her pleasant mood of stargazing was completely ruined.

What was it doing? Why was it following her? Did it want to eat her?

Ai Yue looked in the direction the sound came from.

It was indeed that green Devil Frog.

It was squatting on the ground far away from Ai Yue, mimicking her by looking up at the stars.

Seeing this scene, Ai Yue felt like laughing. A large toad mimicking a person sitting on the ground to watch the stars—the sight was incredibly endearing.

She ignored it, carefully digging out a sweet potato from the fire, shaking off the ash clinging to the outside, and carefully peeling it open.

A fragrance wafted out, drifting far away.

The Devil Frog twitched its nose, took a deep sniff, its eyes lit up, and it instantly turned towards Ai Yue.

Seeing Ai Yue eating something fragrant, it swallowed its saliva and cautiously crept closer to Ai Yue.

Ai Yue paid no attention to the Devil Frog’s subtle movements.

”Gulp!” A loud sound of swallowing could be heard.

It turned out to be the sound made by the Devil Frog, which had crept closer without her noticing.

”Want some?” Ai Yue shook the sweet potato in her hand towards the Devil Frog.

The Devil Frog stared intently at the sweet potato in her hand with its large eyes.

”Don’t you only eat meat? Oh, you only eat carnivorously? Why are you interested in vegetarian food too?” Ai Yue said with interest.

Seeing the drooling Devil Frog looking greedy, Ai Yue smiled slightly, dug out two more scorching hot sweet potatoes from the fire, and threw them to it.

It opened its mouth excitedly, and its long tongue flashed in and out.

The sweet potatoes in the air had vanished.

What fast speed, Ai Yue couldn’t help but exclaim.

The Devil Frog closed its eyes, wearing an expression of savoring the taste.

”I didn’t expect you weren’t afraid of the heat. Then again, if Superpowers don’t affect your skin, your insides must also be extraordinary.”

The Devil Frog opened its eyes and stared straight at Ai Yue again. Ai Yue said ruthlessly, ”Stop looking, there are no more!”

After saying that, Ai Yue dug out another soft, sweet, large sweet potato from the fire.

After finishing dinner, Ai Yue lay on the ground staring at the night sky.

The Devil Frog croaked, looking up at the sky... As dawn approached, the bonfire next to Ai Yue had long since gone out, but Ai Yue had watched the stars all night, yet she didn’t feel tired.

The Devil Frog next to her had also disappeared without a trace.

Ai Yue got up from the cold, hard ground, stretched, and moved her stiff limbs. Seeing no one around, she flashed into her space, ate breakfast, washed up, and then emerged from the space.

As soon as she came out, she saw a large green toad jump aside as if startled.

Seeing its startled appearance, Ai Yue actually felt a sense of joy, as if a prank had succeeded.

However, she ignored it, turned around, and strode forward again.

The Devil Frog immediately followed suit.

Ai Yue was helpless against this shadow; no matter what method she used to shake it off, the frog would eventually find her.

It was determined to stick with Ai Yue.

”What exactly do you want? Why are you following me?” Ai Yue questioned weakly.

If it hadn’t refrained from doing anything excessive, she would have eliminated it already.

”Croak!”

”Heh... It’s like playing a lute to a cow!”

”Croak!”

Ai Yue decided to pretend the frog behind her didn’t exist and continued with her own business.
