Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

113: We can’t stay in the security tower any longer, or the secrets of this space will be lost.Gu Xiheng’s words immediately reminded Ai Yue of what he had said to her a long time ago when he came to borrow the marauder.

He had warned her to be careful in her future actions and not let those with ulterior motives notice the abnormalities in her home.

According to Gu Xiheng’s observations, the food and clothing of Ai Yue’s family were unusual; if it hadn’t been for Gu Yan suppressing it, someone would have come looking for trouble long ago.

This was the second time he had warned her. At this moment, Ai Yue’s heart was filled with mixed emotions; she was grateful for his kind warning, but this didn’t prove that Gu Xiheng was well-intentioned. For all she knew, he might be secretly plotting against her family.

Ai Yue didn’t want to think of him in such a conspiratorial way, but in this dog-eat-dog Apocalypse, she had no choice but to think so.

She was afraid that if she gave her full trust, she would end up with the same miserable fate as in her previous life.

It seemed they could no longer stay in the Safety Tower; if things continued like this, the secret of the space would be discovered sooner or later.

”Dad, Mom, Rui Rui, we have to go. We must leave the Safety Tower, otherwise my space will really be discovered. Although we are very powerful now and aren’t afraid of them, it’s still easier to dodge an open attack than a hidden arrow!”

Ai Yue spoke to Ai Guosheng and the other two with a serious expression.

”Okay, I’ll go wherever Sister goes!” Ye Rui was the first to speak, her eyes full of trust.

Li Shilan and Ai Guosheng had lived in the Safety Tower for so long that it would be a lie to say they had no feelings for it. Although they were very reluctant, they still nodded in agreement for the sake of the family’s safety.

Life in the Apocalypse was meant to be one of wandering; they shouldn’t expect a stable place.

If only no one would covet what they had! But how could that be possible?

If people knew that Ai Yue had a space on her person and that a large amount of food was stored within it, they would fall into a frenzy and would surely want to devour their family of four alive.

”Leaving the Safety Tower is fine, but how do we get out?” Li Shilan asked. She hadn’t forgotten the overwhelming number of Ancient Centipedes outside.

”Yeah, how do we get out?” Ai Yue couldn’t think of a good way for a moment; they couldn’t just fight their way out.

”If only we could fly!” Ye Rui sighed and said dejectedly.

Hearing her words, Ai Yue’s eyes lit up. She remembered that before the Apocalypse, she had bid on many high-tech gadgets at the Technology Auction, among which was a black tech single-person flight device.

According to the description, this product could carry a person at high altitudes for half an hour.

At the time, she thought it looked interesting and that it might be useful in the Apocalypse, so she had bought ten of them. She hadn’t expected there would really be a day when they would be useful.

”Look, what’s this?” Ai Yue flipped her hand, and a device resembling wings appeared on the ground, with a wingsuit underneath.

The whole thing looked quite strange.

The three of them crouched down and touched it, asking in confusion, ”What is this? A large toy?”

”No, this is a gadget I got at the Technology Auction. Putting it on can let us fly.” Ai Yue continued to explain, ”Just fill it with fuel, put it on, and press the switch. It’s simple, fast, and easy to use.

The only downside is that it can only fly for half an hour. After half an hour, we have to land and put it away for maintenance; it can’t be used again immediately.”

”How’s the speed?” Ai Guosheng quickly accepted the fact that a person could fly solo and then asked the most crucial question.

They didn’t want to be discovered and shot down before they could even fly out of the Safety Tower.

”110 kilometers per hour. Half an hour is enough for us to fly out and stay away from the centipede army around the base.”

Ai Yue held the manual and said after doing some calculations in her head.

”Then what are we waiting for? Since we’re leaving, let’s leave decisively!” Ai Guosheng stood up and said.

”No rush. If we want to leave the Safety Tower without anyone knowing, we still have to wait until the middle of the night when people are fast asleep!” Ai Yue comforted them.

”Alright then, let’s get a good night’s sleep and recharge our spirits to set off tonight! Let’s pack our things first,” Li Shilan added.

”Okay!”

The few of them went back to their rooms to pack, taking only some changes of clothes and small items that could be carried easily.

Ai Yue put all the bags they had packed into her space.

As for those large items, such as the bed, table, sofa, and coffee table that people had seen before, she didn’t take them. She left them all here to avoid raising suspicion.

Ai Yue didn’t have any particular feelings of reluctance toward this home. Since she came to the Safety Tower, she hadn’t spent much time at home, mostly being outside searching for supplies, gold, and jade.

So, saying she was leaving here didn’t bring any sentimental feelings; instead, she felt that leaving could help her avoid those annoying people, and she felt completely relaxed.

It was different for Ai Guosheng and his wife. After all, they had lived here for nearly two years, knew many people, and were familiar with every plant and tree in the base.

Ai Yue and Ye Rui soon fell asleep, but Li Shilan and her husband weren’t very sleepy. Once they left, it would be impossible to come back.

The two of them paced around the room for who knows how many laps, finally standing by the window and looking at the buildings faintly visible in the dark night, reluctant to leave for a long time.

Ai Yue was standing behind them, but they didn’t notice until she cleared her throat, startling them back to their senses.

”Dad, Mom, if you really can’t bear to leave this place, we won’t go. It won’t be too late to leave when we truly can’t stay any longer!”

Ai Yue looked at her parents and said softly.

Li Shilan held Ai Yue’s hands and smiled slightly, ”What silly things are you saying? Since we have to leave sooner or later, it’s better to leave early. Otherwise, what if we want to leave but can’t?”

”Right now, most of the people in the base seem like good people because we are somewhat useful and haven’t touched their interests. But if that day ever comes, will they still be so easy to talk to? By then, no matter how great our abilities are, we won’t be able to escape their grasp!”

Ai Guosheng also came over and patted her shoulder, saying, ”Yeah, let’s leave quickly while they’re off guard to save ourselves the trouble!

And don’t worry about the two of us. At our age, people easily get sentimental and like to stay in one place without moving. But we can still distinguish right from wrong. Don’t worry, once we step out of here, this bit of sentimentality will naturally dissipate.”

Ai Yue grinned at her parents, nodded, and gently hugged them. ”Then let’s go back and sleep for a bit. We have to set off in three hours!”

”Okay!”

Watching her parents enter the room and close the door, the smile on Ai Yue’s face gradually faded. How could she not understand her parents’ reluctant feelings?

But for the four of them to survive better in the Apocalypse, they had to leave!

Her whole family understood that no matter how powerful they were, they couldn’t go up against the entire Safety Tower.

Once Ai Yue’s space was exposed, the fate awaiting them could be well imagined.

So leaving this place was imperative!

...Time passed quickly, and in the blink of an eye, it was already one in the morning. The time to set off had arrived!

In the darkness, the four of them walked out of their rooms at the same time. Without making any light, they fumbled their way together.

They walked out of the house one after another. Ai Guosheng, who was at the very back, locked the door and caught up with the others in front.

The four of them silently climbed the spiral staircase upward.
