Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

106: Cheng Siyu probably has some serious illness!Cheng Siyu gave a cold, elegant smile. ”With me here, you can rest easy. Xitian is just straightforward; she says whatever is on her mind. It’s all just talk in the heat of the moment; she doesn’t mean any harm.”

”I know. I’ll leave the matter of talking sense into her to you.”

”Mhm.”

Just then, a shrill, agonizing scream echoed from the direction of the North District.

Gu Xiheng and the other person were startled and rushed toward the source of the sound together.

Arriving at the scene, they saw the carcass of an Ancient Centipede lying next to a deep hole in the middle of the street.

Severed limbs were scattered all around, making for a very bloody scene.

Residents in small groups were watching in horror. The two Ability Warriors who had killed the centipede saw Gu Xiheng arrive and hurried over to report the situation.

”Young General, it seems this Ancient Centipede has mutated. Its teeth and legs are sharper; it’s already able to break through the hard stone ground inside the base,” one of the younger but steady-looking warriors said.

Gu Xiheng frowned. If that were the case, the base was no longer safe. Ancient Centipedes could appear anywhere in the base at any time.

”Xiheng, it looks like we need to reinforce the ground and arrange for Ability Users to patrol at all times,” Cheng Siyu said.

”Yes, you’re right. I’ll go to my father’s office to find him. Be careful, and go back to comfort Xitian,” Gu Xiheng said before striding away.

Cheng Siyu watched Gu Xiheng’s retreating back and couldn’t help but smile sweetly.

The two warriors nearby were left dazed by the sight, unable to snap out of it.

Seeing the warriors’ expressions, Cheng Siyu instantly withdrew her smile and gave a cold command, ”Dispose of the carcass and fill the hole!”

The two warriors immediately snapped to attention, a suspicious flush creeping onto their faces as they shouted, ”Yes!”

Cheng Siyu nodded and turned to leave. Before she had gone far, she heard the two warriors talking.

”Brother Li, the Young General is truly lucky to have the ethereal Miss Siyu by his side. How much good karma must he have accumulated for such a blessing?”

”Of course. The Young General is no ordinary man either; he’s been fighting on the battlefield since he was a child. They’re a perfect match.”

”Yeah, I wonder when I’ll have such good luck to find someone as capable and beautiful as Miss Siyu.”

”You... Hmph, there might be a slim chance if you go back and get reincarnated... Haha!”

...The voices from afar grew fainter. Listening to their conversation, Cheng Siyu unconsciously touched her face, a proud smile curling at the corners of her mouth.

Ai Yue had heard the others’ discussions and was heading this way when she ran straight into Cheng Siyu, who was about to leave.

Ai Yue acted as if she hadn’t seen her and tried to walk past.

”Miss Ai Yue, meeting an acquaintance and you don’t even say hello?” Cheng Siyu stopped and said coldly.

Hearing this, Ai Yue stopped and turned back to look at the beauty. She scoffed and said bluntly, ”Beauty Cheng, are we acquaintances? How come I didn’t know?

Besides, we both know exactly what our relationship is like, so why pretend to be acquaintances? Since we both dislike each other, let’s just act like strangers and save ourselves the trouble.”

”I didn’t expect you to be such a blunt person. Fine! I do hate you, especially because you’re always pestering Xiheng!” Cheng Siyu stopped pretending and revealed the reason for her dislike.

”What kind of nonsense is that? Me, pestering Gu Xiheng? How did those eyes of yours see that? And how did that mouth of yours manage to twist the truth like that? Who exactly is the one constantly showing up in front of whom?” Ai Yue rolled her eyes in disbelief.

Although Ai Yue’s words were harsh, Cheng Siyu didn’t get angry. Instead, she smiled. ”True, it is indeed Xiheng who always pays extra attention to you, which makes me jealous. It really doesn’t make sense for me to blame you instead of him.”

At this point, Cheng Siyu’s tone shifted. ”But, what can I say? I’m a woman, and isn’t this a common flaw among women? I’m going to blame you anyway! Who told you to appear in his life and catch his attention?”

What kind of person is this? She’s crazy. Isn’t this just being a rascal?

For a moment, Ai Yue was speechless. ”Cheng Siyu, it wasn’t my choice to appear in his life; he’s the one who appeared in mine, okay?

Besides, if he insists on paying attention to me, what does that have to do with me? You should go talk to him.

Also, in the very beginning, if I hadn’t saved him, would he even be alive now? If it weren’t for him, would I have gotten mixed up in the mess between you guys and the Changyuan Safety Tower? Would my family have ended up here?

Do you think your resentment toward me is justified?”

”Sigh, I can’t bring myself to blame him, so I can only blame you! Who told your appearance to steal his gaze? Heh... All I can say is, this is fate. I can’t go against it, so I can only vent my frustration on you.

However, if you were to leave the Safety Tower right now and stay far away, maybe we could even become good friends!” the cold beauty said with a shrug.

”You... you’re simply unreasonable!” Completely speechless, Ai Yue turned and walked away.

Round one against Cheng Siyu: a total defeat!

Ai Yue felt a bit of regret; she had lost to the other woman in terms of sheer abnormality.

She really hadn’t expected the cold beauty to be so mentally unstable. How could she say such infuriating things so calmly? She was truly sick!

Cheng Siyu watched the departing Ai Yue with cold eyes. Suddenly, she sneered and muttered to herself while touching her face, ”Ai Yue, you have neither looks nor backing, and you’re always running around outside.

But I’m different. His parents like me, Xitian likes me, and Xiheng and I are childhood friends. I also have this unparalleled beauty. How can you compare to me?

Pfft... How could Xiheng ever fall for a woman like you? It’s just a temporary curiosity!

Xiheng can only be mine in this lifetime!”

Cheng Siyu took a deep breath and walked away, feeling completely relaxed.

Ai Yue arrived at the deep hole. Looking at the solid pavement around it and then at the hole that had been dug through, she understood that the Ancient Centipedes were different now. It must be even more dangerous outside.

If measures weren’t taken within the base, danger would be everywhere. The base was no longer a completely safe place.

But thinking about it differently, this was more beneficial for Ai Yue. The Ancient Centipedes had evolved, making the transparent stones inside them more valuable. Her space would upgrade even faster!

Suddenly, ”Unrelated personnel, move aside!”

Ai Yue, who was observing the hole, was shooed away by the two warriors.

She walked back with a heavy heart. Suddenly, she keenly felt the ground beneath her vibrating slightly.

She immediately jumped back in alert, assuming a defensive stance.

In an instant, the spot where Ai Yue had just been standing seemed to explode. Amidst the flying dust, a gargantuan creature flew out and lunged at a passing pedestrian.
