Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

105: You’re not going to say that this water is yours too, are you?Gu Xitian let out an unhappy huff.

Ai Yue, sitting alone in a chair with her legs crossed and arms folded, didn’t say a word. She just watched the three people in front of her, each with their own hidden agendas, waiting to see how long they would stay in her home.

”Brother, you still haven’t said what you’re here for.” Gu Xitian stared at him, hoping to discover something on his face.

Gu Xiheng’s expression was cold as he took a sip of water and glanced at Gu Xitian. ”I’m here for the same reason you are.”

”Oh? Is that so? Well, since Uncle Ai and Aunt Li aren’t home during the day, we should probably head back first.”

”It doesn’t matter. The water at Ai Yue’s family’s place is quite good, and I have nothing else to do anyway. I’m going to drink some more water before I leave. If you want to go, go ahead.”

Ai Yue’s brow twitched. She had been careless.

This water was from her space. Its taste was crisp and sweet, far better than the water produced by the base.

Ever since the space was upgraded and they had running water, her family had been drinking water from the space. Over time, they had overlooked the issue of the water itself.

At this moment, it suddenly dawned on Ai Yue. No wonder this guy had been drinking cup after cup without stopping since he arrived at her house.

Half-believingly, Gu Xitian poured herself a cup as well.

After taking a sip, her eyes instantly lit up. She then gulped down the rest of the water in the cup, looking like she wanted more.

Since the end of the world, she hadn’t tasted water this good.

”Sister Siyu, you must be thirsty too. Have some!” Gu Xitian didn’t forget to pour a cup for Cheng Siyu and hand it to her.

Cheng Siyu looked at Gu Xitian and then at Gu Xiheng before taking a hesitant sip.

Sure enough, Cheng Siyu quickly finished the cup.

Within moments, the three of them had drained the pitcher and were looking at Ai Yue expectantly.

Ai Yue looked up at the ceiling, completely ignoring their signals that they wanted more.

”Ahem, Ai Yue, where did you get this water?” Gu Xitian asked with a smile, acting as if the conflict between them when she first entered had never happened.

Ai Yue had never seen someone so thick-skinned. She said bluntly, ”What? Are you going to say this water is yours too?”

Gu Xitian’s expression shifted, and she huffed with a darkened face. ”The water obviously isn’t mine, hmph! Who knows where you got it. This water is so sweet, it must be mountain spring water.”

”Since you know where such a good water source is, yet you don’t know how to share it and keep it all for your own family, you really are selfish.”

Ai Yue really wanted to slap that mouth of hers. How could she twist the truth like that?

”Yes, this water is indeed delicious. If the whole base could drink water like this, how happy everyone would be!” Cheng Siyu said softly, holding her cup.

”Where do you get the nerve? You barge into my house, claim my cat is yours, and then say this water is good and that I’m selfish for not sharing it! Do you just think everything in other people’s houses is yours for the taking?”

”What? Are you so used to stealing other people’s things that you want whatever you lay your eyes on? Is there something wrong with you?”

Ai Yue stood up and looked at the three of them expressionlessly. ”I’m telling you, I, Ai Yue—don’t even think about touching my things! As for where this water came from, shouldn’t you know better than anyone? The entire base is under your control. How could you not know where I get my water?”

”Heh... or are you just looking for an excuse to cause trouble for me?”

Ai Yue’s sharp eyes shot two direct, piercing glares at Gu Xiheng.

Gu Xiheng only felt weary. If these two weren’t his relatives, he wouldn’t bother with people so foolish.

Especially Cheng Siyu. Her personality used to be a bit cold but she was very sensible. But what was he seeing today? Ever since she and Gu Xitian entered, they had been acting in concert, constantly picking on Ai Yue.

Cheng Siyu was startled when she saw the flicker of disappointment in Gu Xiheng’s eyes. She realized she had been too impatient today and had provoked his dissatisfaction.

Thus, she gave a faint smile and said, ”Miss Ai, please don’t misunderstand. We spoke inappropriately today; please don’t take it to heart.”

”This water is clearly no different from the water in the base. The only difference is that Miss Ai must have added something to the water to make it sweet.”

”Our words were poorly considered and caused you a lot of trouble today. Fortunately, Miss Ai didn’t hold it against us. We’ve truly overstayed our welcome, so we’ll take our leave now. We’ll come back another day to apologize!”

After saying this naturally, Cheng Siyu pulled the reluctant Gu Xitian away.

Gu Xiheng felt a bit better and, feeling too embarrassed to stay any longer, said his goodbyes and left.

Watching these troublemakers leave, Ai Yue sighed deeply. She feared even greater trouble was yet to come.

She really wanted to leave the Safety Tower right now; she was better suited to killing monsters in a horde.

Ai Yue sighed deeply, knowing that now was not the right time to leave. However, since these two women insisted on causing her trouble and she couldn’t avoid them, then let them come.

The three who had left one after another were now in a secluded spot.

”Tell me, what exactly did you two go to Ai Yue’s house for today? You’d better tell the truth!” Gu Xiheng said, stopping Cheng Siyu and Gu Xitian.

Gu Xitian’s eyes widened. ”Brother, what are you doing? We already said we went to thank Ai Guosheng and his wife. Why are you still asking?”

Gu Xiheng rubbed his temples, realizing they wouldn’t tell him the truth, so he stopped pressing. Then he added, ”Then tell me, why did you two go out of your way to cause trouble for her for no reason?”

”What do you mean we caused trouble for her? Who is she? What does she have that’s worth me causing trouble over?” Cheng Siyu remained silent, while Gu Xitian grumbled unhappily.

”Xitian, how did you become like this? You used to be well-behaved and kind-hearted. How can you have such an unreasonable and ugly attitude now?” Gu Xiheng could no longer endure it and snapped at her.

”Gu Xiheng, what did you say? Ugly attitude? Unreasonable attitude? I’m your sister, and you’re talking to me like that?” It was the first time Gu Xitian had been spoken to this way, and her self-esteem was severely wounded. She burst into tears with a ”waa” sound.

She cried intermittently, ”Gu Xiheng, I... I’m telling you, I... I just hate Ai Yue. I hate, hate, hate her, and now I hate you too!”

After saying that, she turned and ran away in resentment!

Gu Xiheng was completely helpless against his family’s little crybaby. Whenever she cried, the whole family would get anxious and grant her whatever she wanted.

Cheng Siyu said with a touch of tenderness in her cool voice, ”Xiheng, I’m sorry. This is all my fault. If I hadn’t suggested going to Ai Yue’s house to thank Uncle Ai and Aunt Li, this wouldn’t have happened.”

Gu Xiheng shook his head. ”It’s not your fault. With Xitian’s personality, she would have caused these problems sooner or later. Xitian has been clinging to you since she was a child and listens to you the most. Help me talk some sense into her. For the sake of the big picture, tell her not to go against Ai Yue’s family!”
