Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

104: Ai Yue, did you steal my cat?Who would have thought that Mo Li stopped coming, and Gu Xiheng became a frequent visitor instead.

Every day, Gu Xiheng would come very politely, bringing some things, and then very politely spend the morning staring wide-eyed at Ai Yue. He would leave by lunchtime.

”Sister, what’s up with this Young General? He comes every day, chats awkwardly for a bit, and stays the whole morning. What do you think his purpose is?”

After Gu Xiheng left once again, Ye Rui whispered to Ai Yue as she watched his retreating figure.

Ai Yue was also puzzled. Could it be that he had taken a fancy to something of hers again? Was it the kaibaihe battle shield? Or was he coveting her parents?

Ai Yue shook her head at Ye Rui, indicating that she wasn’t sure what his purpose was.

She said softly, ”Let’s wait and see. He’ll eventually state his intentions.”

While Ai Yue and the others were still wondering about Gu Xiheng’s purpose,

over there, Cheng Siyu and Gu Xitian, knowing that Gu Xiheng ran to Ai Yue’s house every day and stayed the whole morning, turned green with envy.

Especially Gu Xitian, who was angrily complaining to Cheng Siyu, ”Sis Siyu, what does my brother mean by this? Why does he run to that cheap woman’s house every day?”

Normally, if Gu Xitian spoke rudely, Cheng Siyu would have advised her long ago. But now, the flames of jealousy were burning fiercely in her heart, and she had no mind to care about Gu Xitian’s words or actions!

”Sis Siyu! Did you hear me?” Gu Xitian said unhappily when she saw that she was being ignored.

”I heard you. Sigh, if your brother insists on going, what can we do? Maybe he has business to attend to, who knows.”

Cheng Siyu spoke softly.

”What business? Hmph, clearly his intentions are not what they seem!” Gu Xitian pouted disdainfully.

A glint flashed in Cheng Siyu’s eyes as she smiled and said to Gu Xitian, ”We were also saved by Uncle Ai and Aunt Li. It wouldn’t be inappropriate to visit and thank them.”

Gu Xitian’s eyes lit up. ”Sis Siyu, you mean we should go to her house too, with my brother? So they’re not alone together?”

”We’re just going to her house to express our gratitude.” Cheng Siyu curled her lips into a meaningful smile.

”Oh... right, we’re just going to thank them!” Gu Xitian and Cheng Siyu exchanged a smile.

--

Sure enough, the next day, as soon as Gu Xiheng stepped into Ai Yue’s house, Cheng Siyu and the other knocked on Ai Yue’s door right after.

Ai Yue was puzzled. Usually, no one came to her house, so why had it been so busy lately?

She wondered if Mo Li had come again, but when she opened the door, she found Cheng Siyu and Gu Xitian.

She was confused inside. Why were they visiting too?

A moment later, Ai Yue suddenly understood. Hmph, it seemed they couldn’t sit still after seeing someone running here every day.

Seeing Ai Yue’s surprised expression, Cheng Siyu felt somewhat disdainful inside, but she didn’t show it at all on her face. Her cool voice rang out, ”What? Aren’t you going to invite us in to sit?”

Ai Yue’s expression wasn’t good. She really didn’t want to have anything to do with these two young ladies. ”Sorry, I have guests. My place is small and can’t accommodate so many people. You’d better come another day.”

Gu Xitian looked unfriendly and sneered, ”What? Your place only lets men in, not women?”

Ai Yue’s eyes turned cold. What a foul mouth.

”Who I let in and who I don’t is my right. It’s none of your business!”

”I...” Gu Xitian’s spoiled young lady temper was about to flare up when Cheng Siyu interrupted.

”Xitian, we’re here to thank Uncle Ai and Aunt Li for saving our lives. We can’t talk like that.” Cheng Siyu smiled at Ai Yue again. ”Sorry, Miss Ai, my Xitian didn’t mean it that way. We’re really here sincerely to thank you today!”

”Tch, empty-handed thanks?” Ai Yue said lightly.

Cheng Siyu was momentarily embarrassed. She hadn’t expected her to call them out like that. With supplies so tight now, how could she really bring anything? The thanks were just an excuse they had come up with.

Gu Xitian had no patience to waste words with her. Taking advantage of Ai Yue’s inattention, she squeezed past her and went in.

Ai Yue was greatly annoyed and instinctively turned to stop her, but Cheng Siyu seized the moment and followed in.

Although Ai Yue was displeased inside, she didn’t forcibly kick them out.

”Brother, what are you doing here too?” Gu Xitian said, pretending to be surprised.

Gu Xiheng knew about the dispute at the door, but he had no time to deal with them. His attention was entirely on that snow-white, cat-like animal.

He frowned tightly, subconsciously thinking this was Da Wang, but reality told him it wasn’t, because it was too small and bore no resemblance to Da Wang at all.

Seeing his expression, Ai Yue wasn’t flustered at all. So what if he suspected? As long as she didn’t admit it, he couldn’t do anything. Besides, who would believe it if someone insisted it was Da Wang?

Gu Xiheng ignored the people who had come in, focusing entirely on Da Wang.

Gu Xitian suddenly saw Da Wang, and her gaze was immediately drawn to it. ”Wow, this cat is so beautiful. This, this...” Her eyes darted around, and she immediately exaggerated, ”This cat looks so much like the one I lost.”

Hearing this, Ai Yue’s eyes darkened.

Gu Xitian continued, ”Looking closely, this is the one I lost. Ai Yue, how dare you steal my cat?”

Ai Yue was so angered by her shamelessness that she laughed.

A look of disbelief flashed across Gu Xiheng’s face. Was this something his sister would say? Brazenly lying?

His expression turned ugly as he said in a cold voice tinged with anger, ”Since when did you have a cat? I didn’t know about it. And take a good look—is this your cat?”

Gu Xitian saw the flickering flames of anger in her brother’s eyes and understood the warning in his gaze.

Her arrogant demeanor weakened a bit. She squatted down again, pretending to look carefully, and said reluctantly, ”Ah, I was mistaken. This isn’t the one I raised.”

Ai Yue didn’t speak the whole time, just looked at Gu Xiheng with a faint, mocking smile.

Gu Xiheng, who usually didn’t know what embarrassment was, felt it at this moment.

He blinked uncomfortably, pretending nothing had happened, and sat back on the sofa, no longer studying Da Wang.

Gu Xitian still looked at Da Wang somewhat unwillingly. She really liked furry animals, but when people didn’t even have enough food, how could there be extra to feed a pet?

Seeing his embarrassing sister still eyeing Da Wang, he cleared his throat and asked, ”Siyu, why did you two come?”

Hearing her brother’s cough, Gu Xitian understood it was another warning from him. She could only reluctantly stand up and plop down unhappily next to Cheng Siyu.

Cheng Siyu stated the excuse they had prepared, and only then did Gu Xiheng’s expression soften as he nodded.

Ye Rui, who had been watching coldly from the side, saw Gu Xitian frequently glancing at Da Wang, with a gleam flashing in her eyes from time to time. She glared at Gu Xitian, displeased, picked up Da Wang, and went back to the inner room. She couldn’t stand the sight of the spoiled young lady so blatantly eyeing her prey.
