Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

133: The simple-minded and innocent Gong QiumuSeeing Ai Yue close her eyes to rest, Little Green followed suit, lying down by the dirt mound and closing its large eyes to doze.

The youth originally wanted to chat with Ai Yue, but seeing her looking like she was resting with her eyes closed, he felt embarrassed to speak up.

He could only squat to the side, boredly digging in the dirt and looking at the sky... After an unknown amount of time, the sky gradually brightened. Ai Yue opened her eyes, her gaze clear and devoid of any grogginess.

”Pretty Older Sister, you’re awake,” the youth, who hadn’t slept all night, said in surprise when he saw Ai Yue wake up.

Ai Yue nodded to him, stood up, and stretched her legs.

She stretched and said to him, ”It’s dawn. Why haven’t you left yet?”

The youth’s face was full of grievance. Back then, he had relied on this face to win over everyone, young and old, male and female; no one had ever disliked him upon meeting him.

But why didn’t it work with Ai Yue?

The Pretty Older Sister kept trying to drive him away!

It was so damaging to his self-esteem!

”Pretty Older Sister, why do you keep trying to drive me away?”

What nonsense!

If I don’t drive you away, how am I supposed to collect the raw stones!

”You’ve seen the Apocalypse and gained some experience. You should hurry home!” Ai Yue didn’t answer his question directly.

”I’ll definitely go home, but my brother is already on his way. I’ll just wait for him.”

”By the way, Sister, my brother is incredibly handsome. You can tell just by looking at me. He doesn’t have a girlfriend yet. Do you want to meet him? Should I set you two up?” the youth suddenly said with a mischievous look.

Ai Yue’s forehead was covered in black lines. What was wrong with this kid?

Was he selling out his brother? Or was he offending her?

Besides, was she even that close to him?

Suddenly, the youth felt a chill run through his body. He looked up at Ai Yue, only to see a bone-chilling gaze directed at him.

The youth shuddered and immediately laughed, speaking quickly, ”Don’t be angry, Pretty Older Sister. I was just joking, just joking. I’ll stop talking, alright?”

Ai Yue rolled her eyes at the youth.

Seeing that Ai Yue was no longer angry, the youth immediately leaned in. ”Sister, it’s fate that we met. I don’t even know your name yet. My name is Gong Qiumu. What’s yours?”

As Ai Yue looked at the youth’s face again, why did it seem less stunning now?

Sure enough, being talkative can really lower one’s looks.

”Ai Yue!”

”Sister Ai Yue, now that we know each other’s names, we’re not strangers anymore. You can’t pretend you don’t know me next time we meet.”

”Ribbit!”

Before Ai Yue could speak, Little Green suddenly let out a croak beside her.

”Ribbit, ribbit!”

Ai Yue nodded to it. Having received her permission, Little Green took a few leaps and disappeared into the city.

”Hey, why did Little Green leave?”

”It’s hungry. It went to find something to eat.”

”Oh, Sister Ai Yue, you’ve raised this pet so well. You don’t even have to worry about it; it knows how to find its own food,” the youth said enviously.

”It’s not my pet. I just picked it up along the way. One day, it will leave.”

Ai Yue’s voice sounded indifferent.

”Ah? It’s not your pet? It’s so well-behaved...” Suddenly he became excited and said happily, ”Sister Ai Yue, how about letting it follow me? Let it be my pet, okay?”

Ai Yue really wanted to pry open his head to see what was inside. Who would ask for something so bluntly?

”No!”

”Why?”

Ai Yue sighed helplessly. ”You want a mutated Devil Frog as a pet?”

”Yes, that’s right!”

”Would your family and friends allow it?”

Gong Qiumu was about to blurt out, ”They would.”

Then he suddenly thought of his brother’s deep-seated hatred for Devil Frogs, and realized he probably wouldn’t allow it.

”But, but Little Green clearly looks different from those brutal Devil Frogs. Look how expressive its eyes are! And no matter how I pet it, it doesn’t get angry. It’s really different! I think they would agree.”

”You’ve only spent a short night with it. How can you be sure it’s really different from the Devil Frogs out there?”

”I trust my intuition!”

”I’m afraid your intuition is off this time!” Ai Yue said heartlessly.

”Is it really not okay?” Gong Qiumu said, putting on a pitiful expression.

Ai Yue didn’t fall for it at all and firmly refused to let him take Little Green.

Setting aside whether Little Green would even go with him, based on what Ai Yue had discovered so far, she wouldn’t give such a dangerous creature to this simple and artless youth.

What if he accidentally got eaten?

”Gong Qiu... mu, it isn’t as docile as it appears on the surface. Don’t be fooled by its looks,” Ai Yue said earnestly.

Hadn’t she been deceived by its cute appearance at first, momentarily softening her heart and sparing its life?

Seeing Ai Yue’s firm opposition, Gong Qiumu could only give up on the idea of keeping Little Green as a pet.

”Sister, you must be hungry. I have food here, I’ll share some with you. This is high protein, both delicious and filling,” Gong Qiumu said as he fished two things that looked like compressed biscuits out of his pocket.

They were thick pieces, about the size of a baby’s palm.

Ai Yue exclaimed internally. This guy changed the subject way too fast. Weren’t they just talking about Little Green?

How did he start talking about food the next moment? This youth’s thinking was truly jumpy.

Ai Yue took a closer look at what was in Gong Qiumu’s hand.

Whoa!

Aren’t these maggots?

Although Ai Yue could eat them without expression, she had been eating normal human food since the Apocalypse began, and she had plenty more in her space. She really didn’t want to eat this.

”Thanks, I appreciate the gesture, but this stuff is hard to come by. You should keep it for yourself,” Ai Yue declined politely.

”It’s fine. If I want to eat it, I can still get more. Eat with peace of mind,” Gong Qiumu said nonchalantly.

”I’ll pass. I don’t have the habit of eating breakfast.”

Seeing that Ai Yue really wouldn’t eat it and wasn’t just being polite, Gong Qiumu put it away.

Suddenly, a transparent gem on a metal bracelet on Gong Qiumu’s left wrist began to flash.

”Ah, it’s my brother. Sister Ai Yue, my brother is summoning me. I have to go meet up with him. Sister, I live in the Songzhou Safety Tower. Come visit me when you have the chance, and I’ll treat you well. I’ve got to go now, bye!”

After saying that, Gong Qiumu ran off with Extreme Speed.

Ai Yue smiled at the sight of the amusing yet annoying youth. She thought to herself that she and he would probably never meet again.

Ai Yue returned to the raw stone pit. Seeing no one around, she slipped into her space to wash up and have some breakfast.

When she came back out, Ai Yue actually found Little Green waiting for her by the pit.

Ai Yue’s brow furrowed slightly. Just what was it using to track her location?

The more she interacted with it, the more mysterious she found it. It always put on a cute and innocent act in front of her, but she didn’t know what it was really like under that skin.
