This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”That’s all it took?”

That was what everyone in the hospital room was thinking right then.

A bowl of Radish Soup solved problems that imported drugs and expensive medicinal ingredients couldn’t, and it accomplished what those famous experts couldn’t.

Now, the truth was right before their eyes. Although Lan Changhua’s complexion was terrible, and his sunken eye sockets were particularly distressing to look at, he was awake, and his bowels had moved. Everything else was just a minor issue.

So, the treatment was just that simple.

Lying back on the hospital bed, Lan Changhua asked softly, ”Has Xiao Du arrived?”

A wave of awkwardness washed over everyone present; they currently couldn’t find Du Heng.

They all knew that Du Heng was upset.

Seeing his father’s improvement, Director Lan felt both excited and deeply guilty. He leaned forward, about to admit his mistake to his father.

But Director Wu quietly pulled Director Lan back and whispered, ”Teacher, Doctor Du has already been here. The medicine you just drank was prescribed by Doctor Du.”

Lan Changhua’s face showed relief and a faint... joy. He hadn’t misjudged; Du Heng was indeed a reliable young man.

”Where is he then?” Lan Changhua scanned the room and continued to ask in a low voice.

Director Wu, maintaining a composed expression, replied softly, ”Doctor Du came straight to the hospital after getting off the plane. He’s grabbing a bite to eat now.”

”That’s good, that’s good.” Although Lan Changhua was awake, he was extremely tired. After a brief pause, he said, ”Take good care of Xiao Du. Tomorrow, please trouble yourself to help him with the paperwork.”

Director Wu nodded hurriedly. ”Don’t worry, Teacher, I will arrange everything.” As he said these words, he felt his face flush.

Lan Changhua had great trust in this student of his, so as soon as Director Wu agreed, Lan Changhua closed his eyes. However, merely two seconds later, he opened them again. ”Ah, you just said Xiao Du went to eat. I’m a bit hungry myself now; my stomach feels uncomfortable from hunger. Is there any food? Get me something.”

Hearing his father wanted to eat, Director Lan was overjoyed and quickly crouched by the bedside. ”Dad, just wait a moment, I’ll have the nanny send something over.”

”Ah, be quick, I’m getting a bit of acid reflux from the hunger.”

”Mm-hmm, very quickly.”

Although Lan Changhua complained of being very hungry, his body was too weak. He closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep within seconds.

However, even after falling asleep, his stomach kept grumbling, sometimes from the upper abdomen and sometimes from the lower.

It seemed that after his intestines were cleared, his stomach was indeed rather empty, and the two bowls of Radish Soup were still taking effect.

Cao Binghe looked at the half-bowl of soup on the bedside table and whispered to Director Wu, ”Director, do we still need this medicine?”

Director Wu shook his head gently.

He had become the director of Good Friend Hospital’s Traditional Chinese Medicine Department not only due to his connection with Lan Changhua; he certainly possessed real skills of his own.

Now that the patient was awake, he had some confidence in handling the rest.

”Once the intestines are clear, we can’t use this decoction medicine anymore.” Director Wu glanced at Director Lan, who had stepped out to make a phone call, and said softly to Cao Binghe, ”Teacher’s spleen and kidney are inherently weak, and his intestines lack strength. If we continue to use this soup, Teacher will revert to his previous state of diarrhea, and that would be very dangerous.”

Cao Binghe nodded gently, looked back at the sleeping Lan Changhua, and asked again, ”So, what’s next? Should we wait for Doctor Du, or will you handle it?”

Director Wu sighed softly. Today’s events had been rather shameful for everyone involved. He truly didn’t know how he would face Du Heng tomorrow.

”I’ll take care of the rest. If we still need Doctor Du for this, we’d lose far too much face.”

After a moment of thoughtful silence, he said to Cao Binghe, ”It’s time to tonify qi and support his recovery. How about this: you make a trip to the Pharmacy and get red ginseng, magnolia... Once you’ve prepared the medicine and the food arrives, let Teacher eat something, and then drink the medicine.”

”Alright, I’ll go right away.” Cao Binghe quickly noted down what Director Wu said and then left.

The busy activity of the group seemed to have no connection whatsoever with the actual director of this Department.

Since Lan Changhua had woken up, no one had paid any attention to Director Qian, who was standing by the door.

Director Wu turned to look at Director Qian, sighed, and stepped forward to say softly, ”Qian, thank you for your hard work. Teacher has already woken up. You should go get some rest too. You’ve been troubled these past few days.”

Director Qian’s expression was somewhat peculiar; it wasn’t clear whether he was pleased or displeased.

After Director Wu finished speaking, Director Qian managed a stiff smile. ”It’s good that Professor Lan is awake. Since I can’t be of any help with the subsequent treatment, why don’t you transfer Professor Lan back to your Chinese Medicine Department? It would be more convenient for you to take care of him, don’t you think?”

Director Wu understood Director Qian’s predicament and could largely guess his thoughts, so he didn’t refuse such a suggestion.

After a moment’s thought, he said softly, ”That would work. Tomorrow morning, after work starts, I’ll have someone come and transfer Teacher over.”

”Then it’s settled.” After saying this, Director Qian left the hospital room without looking back.

Watching Director Qian leave, Director Wu muttered, ”One shouldn’t underestimate the young. Why did you have to put yourself in such a position?”
