This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”What are you laughing at?” After Wu Shengnan vented her emotions, she turned her attention to Du Heng. ”Have you eaten?”

”Just about to,” Du Heng replied.

”Where? What grand meal are you having?” Wu Shengnan joked.

”What grand meal? I’m just eating alone at a roadside stall,” Du Heng said.

Wu Shengnan immediately grew curious. ”Hey, weren’t you invited over by someone? How come you’re alone at a roadside stall now? That’s way too perfunctory.”

At this, Wu Shengnan started to feel indignant on Du Heng’s behalf.

However, Du Heng omitted certain details and only shared some key points with Wu Shengnan, ”The patient’s condition is a bit serious now, and everyone is busy taking care of them. I was just too hungry to endure it, so I came out to find something to eat. By the way, did you go sign for the money today?”

”Of course, I went! How could I not go when there’s money to collect?” Speaking of this, Wu Shengnan, on the other end of the line, forgot what she had been about to say and instead chatted happily with Du Heng about the signing.

Just then, Du Heng’s noodles were served. He cheerfully chatted with Wu Shengnan while starting on his meal.

”Honey, we got so much money this time! Can you guess how much?”

Du Heng, while enjoyably slurping his noodles, replied perfunctorily, ”Five hundred thousand yuan more than last time?”

”No, that’s way too little...”

In the end, Wu Shengnan couldn’t hold it in any longer and revealed the amount: 9.2 million yuan, over a million more than in the first half of the year.

”Honey, we have enough money now, and we’ll be staying in the Capital for over two years. Why don’t we just buy a house to live in?” Wu Shengnan said excitedly. ”This way, we won’t have to worry about moving, and we can save on rent. When it’s time for us to leave, we can just sell it. What do you think?”

This idea was fine with Du Heng, but he had a doubt, ”The problem is, neither of us has a Capital household registration. Can we even buy a house?”

”You don’t need to worry about that; I have my ways.”

”What ways?”

”Never you mind that. Anyway, I asked My Dad, and he said he could figure something out.”

”Alright, then I won’t ask anymore.”

”In that case, I’ll tidy up our place in the next few days. Once everything’s sorted, I’ll come to the Capital to be with you, and then we can go look at houses.”

”Sounds good.”

After chatting with Wu Shengnan for a long time, Du Heng hung up and then called his elder brother, Lawyer Zhou, and others.

In Lan Changhua’s hospital room, no one had realized Du Heng had left. Cao Binghe and Director Wu, in particular, thought Du Heng might want to give them space to discuss the feasibility of the remedy he had proposed.

”Wu, do you think it’s feasible?” After mulling it over and realizing he was just letting his thoughts drift, Director Lan took the initiative to ask Director Wu.

At this time, Director Wu had a conflicted look on his face.

Is the remedy correct? Yes! But whether it was the right remedy for the symptoms, he wasn’t sure. He also didn’t know if it would be useful. Moreover, compared to Lan Changhua’s condition, the Boiled Radish Water remedy seemed a bit... too simple and perfunctory. From another perspective, this remedy didn’t seem to do justice to Lan Changhua’s current situation, nor to the level of importance the experts attached to it. But now they had run out of other options, and Du Heng had explained everything very clearly. So, should they try it or not?

At this moment, Director Qian interjected, ”Wu, a mere youngster’s...”

Director Wu raised his hand to stop Director Qian and said seriously, ”Qian, let’s not talk about this anymore. Doctor Du was invited by our Teacher and is our established Deputy Director of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine Department. When Doctor Du was here, there were some things I couldn’t say explicitly, but now that he’s not here, for you to still be like this, isn’t that going a bit too far?”

Without waiting to see the change in Director Qian’s expression, he turned directly to Director Lan and said, ”Let’s follow Doctor Du’s recommendation. His use of medication for Critical Illnesses has always had an immediate effect, and I believe we will see results soon.”

Director Lan hesitated no more. He made up his mind to try the Radish Soup and see if it could save his father.

”Wu, so how do we prepare this? Does the hospital pharmacy do it?”

”I’ll make a call.” Director Wu thought for a moment, then picked up the phone and dialed.

After arranging everything, Director Wu finally remembered Du Heng and asked Cao Binghe, who was beside him, ”Xiao Cao, where’s Doctor Du?”

”Maybe he’s outside getting some air?” Cao Binghe wasn’t very sure.

”Go find him. Doctor Du came all this way, hasn’t rested for a moment, and came to the hospital without even eating. Hurry up and find him; we should take Doctor Du out for a meal.”

As Director Wu spoke, he cast a meaningful, sidelong glance at Director Lan.

Director Lan, whether he was pretending or was genuinely reminded by Director Wu, quickly said, ”My mistake. I was so worried about My Dad earlier that I overlooked this. Wu, I’ll find a place. Regardless of whether this medicine works or not, just for Doctor Du coming all this way, I must thank him on behalf of My Dad.”

Cao Binghe didn’t join their conversation but stepped out to call Du Heng. However, the line indicated that the phone was off.

Having no other choice, he could only search the corridors aimlessly, but he found nothing.

He called again. The phone was on this time, but it was engaged. In fact, the line remained busy for two hours. By the time it was past eleven, almost midnight, it was still engaged. This was driving Cao Binghe frantic.

But just as he was wondering how to explain this to Director Wu and Director Lan, a series of GURGLE GURGLE sounds suddenly came from the hospital bed, along with Lan Changhua’s groans.

No, this time it couldn’t be called a groan, but a cry of pain.

”Dad, what’s wrong?” Director Lan was startled and hurriedly rushed to the bedside, his hands flailing in panic.

”My stomach hurts.” Lan Changhua seemed to be regaining some consciousness, and his sunken eyes opened once more.

And just as he finished speaking, another loud and prolonged GURGLE GURGLE, like muffled thunder, rumbled from his stomach.

After this sound passed, Lan Changhua’s pained expression gradually eased.

After waiting a few seconds, Lan Changhua slowly said, ”It’s alright now. It doesn’t hurt anymore.” With that, he closed his eyes again.

Director Lan, his heart pounding with anxiety, could only turn to look at Director Wu behind him.

At this moment, the expressions of both Director Wu and Director Qian changed. But a smile appeared on Director Wu’s face, while Director Qian looked surprised.

”Wu, what’s going on?” Director Lan asked, his voice trembling.

Director Wu swallowed hard. ”Don’t worry. Let’s wait and see a little longer.”

After another ten minutes or so, a clearly audible GURGLE came from Lan Changhua’s stomach again. He swallowed repeatedly and then let out several consecutive hiccups.

Director Wu became excited. ”It’s unblocked! It’s actually unblocked! The Triple Burner Qi Mechanism is recovering its function! Xiao Cao, quickly, feed the Teacher another bowl of soup.”

Cao Binghe, forgetting his search for Du Heng at that moment, hurried forward with the bowl and began to feed Lan Changhua the Radish Soup.

Director Qian, who was beside them, let out a long sigh. It was unclear what he was thinking, but after a few seconds, he said to Director Wu, ”Wu, should we do a Check-up?”

Director Wu shook his head. ”Not for now. Let’s wait a bit longer.”

And so, everyone waited in a state of anxiety and anticipation for another Half an hour. Suddenly, Lan Changhua, on the hospital bed, woke up and shouted, ”Quick, help me to the toilet! I need to go to the toilet!”

To the toilet?

Joy lit up everyone’s faces. Director Lan, especially anxious, hurriedly asked, ”Dad, do you need to do number one or number two?”

”Number two! Hurry!”

”I’ll get you the bedpan.”

”I can still move! Hurry up, stop dawdling!”

Amid the urging, Lan Changhua was helped into the toilet by Director Lan and Cao Binghe.

Five minutes later, Lan Changhua was helped out.

”Teacher, did you manage to go?”

”I did! I feel so much better! Finally, I feel comfortable!”

Everyone, though thrilled, looked at each other in disbelief. Was it really that simple?
