This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Then she began to slap her own thighs vigorously with both hands, making loud smacking sounds, and wailed, ”There’s no justice! No justice in this world! Someone was killed, a crime was committed, and nobody cares! Now they’re even beating people! My poor nephew! Your aunt—that’s me—isn’t capable. Not only can I not help you, but I also got beaten!”

With this woman taking the lead, the other two quickly followed suit, plopping down on the floor and starting a rhythmic, three-part chorus of wails.

In an instant, the place no longer resembled a hospital office but rather a noisy funeral parlor.

But such a scene was, conversely, the easiest for Du Heng to handle.

What he feared and struggled with the most was when these women would start cursing and spitting, occasionally even scratching at him.

Now, Du Heng merely swept a cold glance over them and knocked on the tabletop a few times. DONG DONG DONG. The dull sounds immediately interrupted the women’s performance.

”Ladies, please wait. Our Medical Affairs Office staff will give you an overview of the law. This way, you’ll understand that our country already has legal precedents and methods to deal with behavior like yours. If it happens again, we won’t be talking; we’ll call the police directly.”

With that, Du Heng turned to the new Director of the Medical Affairs Office behind him, ”Director Li, educate these ladies properly.”

”Yes, Dean.” Director Li immediately agreed. With Du Heng having set the tone earlier, he couldn’t, and had no reason to, back down.

Du Heng glanced at them one last time and then said to the security guards, ”Keep an eye on them. Once Director Li is finished, escort them out immediately. Ensure they don’t disrupt the hospital’s order.”

With that said, Du Heng walked out of the office, followed by Vice Dean Zhang and Lu Guangying.

Upon leaving the office, Du Heng asked with a grim face, ”Have you contacted that Fan Bangjun?”

Vice Dean Zhang replied with a dark expression, ”I just tried calling him, but his phone has been disconnected.”

”Then top up his credit, call him again, and find out what’s going on and whether he’s involved.”

”I did, but his phone is still off. The number is likely no longer in use.”

Du Heng said nothing more and walked straight to his office.

Lu Guangying followed behind and asked, ”Dean, what should we do next?”

”Get rid of them! What else can we do?” Du Heng was extremely annoyed, and his tone toward Lu Guangying was sharp.

After walking a few more steps, Du Heng suddenly turned and asked Lu Guangying, ”Vice Dean Lu, Vice Dean Zhang, when the Bureau contacted you a few days ago, was it about this matter?”

Neither of them showed any surprise at Du Heng’s sudden question.

In a hospital this large, someone would inevitably inform Du Heng. If he didn’t even know this much, he wouldn’t be able to hold onto his position securely.

Lu Guangying spoke first, ”I’m not really sure about that. They asked many varied questions, so I’m not certain if this specific issue was what they were inquiring about.”

Vice Dean Zhang nodded in agreement. ”That’s right. Their questions were all over the place. I genuinely don’t know what they were trying to ask or what their main focus was.”

Their answers were almost identical to Wu Buwei’s.

Lu Guangying glanced at Vice Dean Zhang, then suddenly turned to Du Heng and said, ”Dean, I think this is a good thing.”

”What do you mean?”

”From what that man said earlier, it’s not hard to deduce that they likely reported it first and then tried to arrange a private settlement. So the Bureau should be aware of this incident. This is clear from our meeting with them; it’s quite certain.”

After a brief pause, Lu Guangying continued softly, ”But from the way the Bureau questioned us, I think they believe in the Dean and support you. As for questioning us, it’s a necessary procedure they can’t skip. However, through their persistent questioning, they’ve also conveyed their stance.”

While speaking, Lu Guangying glanced sideways at Du Heng’s expression. ”So, in this regard, I don’t think you need to worry, Dean.”

Du Heng’s pace faltered slightly, but after only a brief pause, he resumed walking.

It was apparent that he largely agreed with what Lu Guangying had said.

After taking two more steps, Du Heng said to Vice Dean Zhang, ”Continue trying to contact Fan Bangjun. Find out the real identities of these people and see if they are actually the child’s uncles. Also, those security guards from earlier should be rewarded; they handled the situation very decisively today. We hired them for more than just standing like statues at the entrance or serving as conduction exercise personnel in the Hall. They aren’t meant to be mere human turnstiles either. Preventing violence before it occurs is their primary responsibility.”

Vice Dean Zhang nodded immediately.

Setting aside any potential repercussions from the security guards’ actions for now, the process and the outcome made him, the Vice Dean, feel very reassured and comfortable. Furthermore, although such incidents were rare at the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital, the way they were handled previously always left an unpleasant feeling. Especially when he felt he was in the right yet still had to compromise; that soured his mood even more. Today’s approach, though somewhat unconventional, made him feel that since they were in the right, they should stand firm. Regardless of the final outcome, at least his mood was good for now.

Du Heng paid no further attention to how the Medical Affairs Office handled the matter. However, at least until the end of the workday, he heard no more news about those individuals.

After work, as Du Heng was about to leave the hospital, he specifically glanced at both sides of the entrance and across the street but saw no one holding banners.

Du Heng surmised that those people had likely quieted down, and only then did he feel at ease enough to go pick up Wu Shengnan from work.

”Honey, is everything at the hospital sorted out?” As soon as she got in the car, Wu Shengnan immediately expressed her concern for Du Heng.

At this moment, Du Heng also needed someone to whom he could vent his inner frustrations.

He had gone to great lengths to save a life, only to end up dealing with a bunch of shameless, ungrateful people, which left him feeling quite emotionally affected.

After Wu Shengnan listened to Du Heng’s account of the incident, she played the role of a listener adeptly. She quietly stayed by his side, listening as Du Heng vented his inner dissatisfaction. Moreover, throughout the entire process, even up to the very end, she refrained from offering Du Heng any advice.

She understood clearly that at this point, Du Heng simply needed an outlet to vent, not seemingly reasonable advice. All she needed to do was, during Du Heng’s outpouring, occasionally chime in from his perspective with a few critical remarks, and his bad mood would quickly dissipate.

Sure enough, by the time Du Heng arrived home, he had finished recounting the incident and had mostly vented his emotions.

Moreover, he knew that using Wu Shengnan as an emotional dumping ground wasn’t right, so after they got home, he proactively took charge of all the cooking and housework. Wu Shengnan wanted to help, but Du Heng wouldn’t let her; he was determined to make amends for his earlier mood.

After trying to help a couple of times and seeing Du Heng’s firm resolve, Wu Shengnan gave up resisting. She began to enjoy his attentiveness guilt-free, even making a few small, not overly demanding, requests. Du Heng responded to these requests with enthusiasm and cheerfulness.

It wasn’t until just before bed that Wu Shengnan hugged Du Heng and whispered, ”Honey, you don’t have to be like this. When two people are together, isn’t it about being each other’s support? Making bad moods vanish and filling life with happiness—that’s what we should both do for each other. This apologetic and overly cautious behavior of yours just puts a lot of pressure on me.”

Du Heng tightened his hug around Wu Shengnan’s arm.

「The next morning.」

Du Heng, in a cheerful mood, sent Wu Shengnan to work. He then drove to the School, hoping to give his Students a good lecture.

However, the unexpected always happens.
