This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng looked speechlessly at the young man. From this brief encounter, he could tell this was a very self-absorbed, arrogant young man. And from his actions, it was clear he was a spoiled brat, pampered to the point his intelligence was abnormal—a complete idiot.

”First of all, please take your money back.”

”Heh, no need,” Qiao Zhenghai sneered. ”Go to my house now and treat my father. That money is your consultation fee. If you don’t appreciate the gesture, then keep the money; you’ll need it for your own hospitalization.”

Du Heng almost laughed in anger. ”Alright, alright, just wait a moment. I need to make a phone call.”

He knew that anyone capable of doing such a thing must have connections to either money or power. A family without some influence wouldn’t raise such a domineering child.

”Big brother, what are you up to?” Du Heng directly called Wu Shengnan’s Big brother.

On the other side of the call, Wu Shengnan’s Big brother’s voice was lazy. ”Nothing, just sitting in my office drinking tea.”

”You’re living the good life.”

”Do you want to switch jobs?” Wu Shengnan’s Big brother cheerfully replied.

Du Heng chuckled. ”Forget it, I can’t sit still. Anyway, I wanted to ask you about someone.”

”Go ahead.”

”The son’s name is Qiao Zhenghai, and the father’s name is Qiao Yuncheng. Do you know them?”

”I’ve met Qiao Yuncheng a few times. I’ve only heard of Qiao Zhenghai, never met him. What’s up?”

Du Heng glanced at Qiao Zhenghai across from him, chuckled, and said, ”This young man named Qiao Zhenghai told me to be careful when I go out, as he wants to run me over with a car.”

”****, has that kid eaten shit and lost his mind? How could he say that?” Wu Shengnan’s Big brother immediately sounded alert on the other side of the call.

”I don’t know if his mind is addled or not, but he’s right in front of me now.”

”In your office?”

”Yes.”

”Tell that kid to wait right there; I’ll be there soon.”

”What if he doesn’t wait for you?”

”He can try.”

After hanging up, Du Heng looked at Qiao Zhenghai. ”I guess you heard that. Want to wait and see?”

Qiao Zhenghai’s face flashed a hint of panic, but he immediately said stubbornly, ”Wait then! What can he do? Eat me? I want to see if he dares to offend the Qiao family for a rural son-in-law like you.”

****, has he been reading too many overbearing CEO novels?

Du Heng once again felt that this young man’s brain wasn’t normal, so he ignored him.

However, having an extra person in the office made it inconvenient to discuss matters. Du Heng thought for a moment and simply called Deputy Dean Zhang to go outside with him.

Opposite the hospital’s main entrance, a black banner displayed eight large white characters: ”Unscrupulous Hospital, Trampling on Human Lives.”

That wasn’t all. Below the banner, in addition to the five people who had come yesterday, five more had arrived. They were burning paper money, and several women were crying loudly.

As more paper money was added, black smoke continuously rose from the broken basin. Cars sped along the road, their passage stirring up air currents that swept the paper ash into the air, making it dance.

The elderly men and women in the surrounding area finally found some entertainment. Such excitement broke the monotony of their lives, which were usually as still as a dry well.

With paper ash filling the sky and the sounds of wailing filling their ears, they carried their small folding stools and campstools, slowly gathering about twenty meters away from the group.

And judging by the steady stream of elderly people joining them from the road, the gathering was still growing.

Were the old ladies interested in the banner? Of course not.

Were the old men interested in the wailing? Certainly not.

What they enjoyed was the story behind it all, the painful experience that had caused this family so much suffering.

Only by understanding this backstory could they sit comfortably on their small stools and begin to critique both parties involved.

No, no, not critique—rather, to offer their ”objective and fair” assessment.

Only then could their five or six decades of experience be put to use, and only then would their moral compass find release and satisfaction.

And only this could send a tiny ripple through their otherwise dull, unchanging lives—lives that were visibly nearing a dreaded end.

So, when Du Heng and Deputy Dean Zhang appeared at the entrance, they saw several elderly men and women gathered around the mourners.

They faithfully fulfilled their duty as listeners, carefully heeding the women’s accusations, nodding in agreement from time to time, and joining in the condemnation of the hospital and Du Heng.

When these people spoke of how they had been ”beaten” and ”driven away” by the hospital yesterday, the elderly men and women expressed strong indignation and offered the group their moral support.

After the accusers had said their piece, the elderly men and women departed, satisfied, and joined the discussion of the ”Justice League” nearby.

Behind them, other recently arrived elderly people quickly filled the empty spots, and the woman who had just been speaking began her speech anew.

”What’s going on? Why have they put up that banner again?” Du Heng’s face turned as black as the bottom of a pot as he looked at the bustling scene opposite them.

Deputy Dean Zhang also looked constipated and said resentfully, ”They put it up right after they arrived for work this morning. I personally went over to negotiate, but they completely ignored me and wouldn’t come to the hospital.”
