This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Chapter 199: 199 Fragile heart like paper

”Zhang, are you feeling better now?”

Zhang felt a bit embarrassed. Only after looking at Mr. Zhao next to her did she nod at Du Heng.

Du Heng examined her and noticed a significant improvement in her complexion; she no longer looked as pale and weak as before.

He then said to both of them, ”Zhang, the bleeding has stopped, but you still need to take some other medicine to strengthen your body. Do you want to be hospitalized for treatment here, or do you want to take the medicine home and brew it yourself?”

Zhang looked at Mr. Zhao again. Mr. Zhao hesitated but then spoke softly to her, ”It’s up to you.”

”Can I recover at home?” Zhang asked Du Heng worriedly.

”You can. Just take the medicine I prescribed for about a week, and after you finish it, you should be almost completely healed. But during this period, you must abstain from sex. If the condition recurs, it will become a severe illness.”

These words made both Zhang and Mr. Zhao’s faces burn.

As a couple in their fifties, going through this experience made them feel quite uncomfortable.

”Let’s go home and brew the medicine ourselves.”

”Alright, I’ll go and prepare the medicine for you. You can also change to a different Hospital room and leave when it’s dawn.”

Zhang quickly said, ”No, no, let’s not go to the Hospital room. Can you get the medicine for us, and can we go home now?”

Were they afraid of being seen by others when it was light? Du Heng wondered.

”Well, that’s fine too. But it’s pitch dark out; can you manage?”

Mr. Zhao quickly said, ”We can. We drove here, and our car is parked at the main entrance.”

Du Heng nodded. ”That’s fine then. Mr. Zhao, please come with me for a moment to pay the fee and sign some papers.”

The Health Clinic didn’t have the capacity to handle emergency cases at night, so the registration office was also unstaffed.

Currently, they had to revert to pre-system methods, using paper for registration and payments, and then inputting everything into the computer after the registration office staff started work.

However, this was rather troublesome, especially when it came to calculating costs—they genuinely had to use a calculator for each item.

Watching Du Heng calculate the costs, Mr. Zhao leaned in closer and said softly, with a hint of flattery, ”Du... President Du...”

Du Heng looked up. ”Mr. Zhao, I’ve told you before, just call me by my name. Calling me President makes me feel awkward.”

Mr. Zhao smiled. ”Then I won’t stand on ceremony. Xiao Du, about today’s matter, can you keep it confidential for us?”

”It’s a small thing; I’ve already informed the nurse. Besides, the record of your treatment will only be seen by our doctors; no one else will see it. I’ll remind them when the time comes.”

”Then we’ll be troubling you.”

”What are you saying?” Du Heng pushed the calculated bill in front of Mr. Zhao. ”Mr. Zhao, take a look. This is the fee: five doses of medicine, a total of 224 yuan.”

With Du Heng’s assurance, a heavy weight was lifted from Mr. Zhao’s heart, and he paid the bill quite readily.

Originally, Mr. Zhao had intended for Zhang to rest for a while and be observed, planning for them to go home when it was almost dawn.

However, Zhang was truly embarrassed and unwilling to stay a moment longer; she insisted on standing up to go home.

Having no other choice, Du Heng checked Zhang again. Finding her pulse stable and her complexion somewhat recovered, he agreed to let them go home.

After they left, Du Heng began helping the nurse clean up the blood-stained consultation room. The nurse initially wanted to gossip, but seeing Du Heng’s disinclination to speak, she suppressed the urge. However, it was such an extraordinary event, the kind you only see once in a lifetime, that she found it incredibly hard to keep to herself. Upon finishing and returning to the rest room, she immediately picked up her Mobile phone to send news to her best friend.

Whether her friend was asleep or not, she felt she had to vent. However, she didn’t mention who the patients were, only that there was such a couple.

But Du Heng knew nothing about this.

After cleaning the Physiotherapy Room, he returned to the duty room to sleep.

「In the morning, as promised, Yu Haiting came quite early.」

However, Du Heng didn’t plan to leave. Instead, he went to the Pharmacy, prepared some house, and stayed busy for the entire day.

It was around three or four in the afternoon when he finally had everything ready.

Yu Haiting was quite interested in making Chinese herbal medicine pills, and since the Health Clinic was particularly quiet that day, he stayed to help Du Heng.

Seeing that each pill required so many steps and procedures, he found it quite troublesome.

”Dean, what are you using these pills for?”

Du Heng slowly placed the freshly rolled pills into a small box. ”My niece is taking the college entrance examination tomorrow. I’ve prepared some things in case she feels unwell tomorrow, so she’ll have something for emergencies.

This one you just rolled is for alertness and mental clarity; one pill will keep her clear-headed for an entire afternoon. This one is for diarrhea, and this one is for heatstroke.”

Yu Haiting understood. ”Ah, the college entrance examination. One should indeed be careful and thoroughly prepared. If they don’t perform well due to an accident, the impact on the children is too great.”

”Yes, nowadays, most families have only one child. Parents often have high expectations for their children’s success and tend to pamper them excessively. This can make children seem lively and energetic in their daily lives. However, when faced with the slightest setback, their hearts can seem as fragile as paper.”

As Du Heng discussed this issue, he recalled a student he had treated in the upper village back in March. This student had become mentally unstable due to the college entrance examination, and Du Heng wondered how he was doing now.

Hearing Du Heng’s words, Yu Haiting shared the sentiment. ”My wife teaches high school. I don’t even need to see the students; just seeing how exhausted my wife is every day when she comes home gives you an idea of how tired students are these days.

She often complains when she gets home that she not only has to teach the children but also constantly monitor their psychological well-being. A moment of carelessness can lead to problems.”

He paused, his tone becoming slightly somber. ”Just last week, my wife came home and said that on the day the senior third grade students were dismissed for their break, one student was happily tearing up books and papers with everyone one second, overjoyed, but the very next second, he jumped straight out of the window. It was the fourth floor. The ambulance hadn’t even arrived yet, and the person was gone.”

Du Heng was stunned for a moment. ”Were there no warning signs?”

”None at all, not a single sign. It’s said that when the student jumped, the entire class was dumbfounded.”

Du Heng sighed. He didn’t want to talk anymore, and a tight knot formed in his heart as he thought of Du Xuejing.

But then, considering Du Xuejing’s wild behavior these past few days, she didn’t seem like the type of person who would do such a thing.

Besides, my big brother and sister-in-law have never pressured her, and I’ve always tried to fulfill her reasonable wishes. It shouldn’t be like that for her.

That’s what he told himself, but deep down, he was still somewhat worried. After quickly packing up his things, he hurried home.
