This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Chapter 176: 176 Extremely comfortable

Just then, a nurse suddenly knocked on the door, providing Wu Buwei a timely interruption. ”Dean, come quickly! The woman who wanted to complain about us yesterday was just beaten by her brother in her hospital room.”

Du Heng’s eyes lit up. He felt a little delighted inside, but he still managed to control himself. ”Let’s go check it out.”

The three of them went upstairs together, and the yelling on the second floor became clearly audible.

Du Heng asked the nurse in a low voice, ”He didn’t hurt her badly, did he?”

The nurse also whispered, ”She’s fine. Her brother just slapped her, leaving a red mark on her face, and he also smashed a lunchbox on her.”

Excellent! he thought. Then, he walked around the corner and arrived at the second-floor hallway.

Wang Lili and Li Nating were shielding the woman from yesterday, trying to usher her away, while two other nurses and a few family members helped restrain the furious man.

”Tell me, what the hell are you trying to do? When Dad was at the Municipal First Hospital, you kept causing trouble, demanding a private room, complaining the medicine was too expensive! You made Dad miss his medication, and now his leg is disabled. He’s only been in this hospital for a few days, and you’re at it again! What exactly do you want?”

Seeing the man about to charge forward again, the woman seemed genuinely scared. Hiding behind Wang Lili, she cried, ”Did I say anything wrong? It’s so unhygienic for Dad to be treated with needles that have been used on so many other people! And why do others get a private room while we have to share? They’re clearly bullying us!”

”Still talking back, are you?” The man was so furious, his eyes practically blazing, that the two nurses and several family members were struggling to hold him back.

Du Heng’s face turned stern, and he sharply rebuked them, ”What do you think you’re doing? This is a hospital, not your home! There are other patients here. If you want to fight and argue, take it outside or back to your own house!”

His scolding calmed the angry man down.

Seeing Du Heng approach, the man’s aggressive demeanor immediately softened. ”Doctor Du, I am so sorry. I had some family matters to attend to yesterday, so I asked my sister to look after my dad for the day. I never expected this to happen. I’m truly sorry. You’re a bigger man than to argue with a woman like her. Please, treat my dad however you see fit. I have absolutely no objections.”

With a stern expression, Du Heng looked at the siblings and said, ”If you have problems, argue about them at home. You cannot cause a commotion in the hospital hallway. It’s not just your father who is a patient here; many others are trying to rest.”

”I’m sorry, Doctor Du, I’m really sorry. I was just too angry just now,” the man continued apologizing.

”Being too angry is no excuse for causing such a scene. What kind of behavior is that?” Du Heng said, walking towards the patient’s room. ”You two, come inside. Let’s get everything clear right now. If you continue this ruckus, you can just take your father and leave the hospital.”

The brother and sister fell silent and followed Du Heng into the hospital room.

Du Heng gave Wang Lili a meaningful look. She understood immediately. After everyone was inside, she closed the door from the outside and then went to the hallway to ask the other patients and their families to return to their rooms.

Du Heng looked at the two siblings before him, then at the old man on the bed who was pretending to be asleep with his eyes closed. He was thoroughly fed up.

”Alright, I won’t waste any more words. You two need to give me a straight answer right now about what your family wants. If you want treatment for him, then let the old man receive it properly. If you don’t want treatment, then discharge him. If our work hasn’t been satisfactory, or if you find our fees too high, you are free to file a complaint with our supervising workplace.”

The man quickly replied, ”Treatment! We want treatment! Doctor Du, we’ll do whatever you say.”

Du Heng didn’t say anything but looked at the woman.

This kind of family was the hardest to deal with.

One pulled one way, the other pulled the opposite.

If they couldn’t reach a consensus, no matter what the doctor did, it would be wrong in someone’s eyes.

However, seeing the large red mark from the slap on the woman’s face, to be honest, he felt quite satisfied.

People like her needed someone to teach them a lesson. Otherwise, they were like a toad hopping onto the back of your foot—it doesn’t bite, but it’s infuriatingly annoying.

But looking at that bright red mark, her brother had really hit her hard.

How much anger must he have bottled up to slap her that hard?

The man noticed Du Heng looking at the mark and glared at his sister. ”Quickly, apologize to Doctor Du!”

The woman hesitated, silent. But seeing her brother’s hand twitch as if ready to strike again, she reluctantly said, ”Sorry, Doctor Du.”

The man wasn’t satisfied. He continued to glare at her. ”And? Promise Doctor Du you won’t cause any more trouble!”

”I don’t care anymore! Do whatever you want!” The brother’s tone had been too aggressive, and the woman’s own temper flared.

But as soon as she finished speaking, the man landed another backhand slap. It happened so fast Du Heng didn’t even have time to react, let alone stop him.

But inwardly, Du Heng felt extremely satisfied.

Seeing the man raise his hand again, Du Heng and Wu Buwei quickly intervened to stop him. Du Heng admonished, ”Use your words! How can you resort to violence? Even if she’s your sister, you can’t just hit her.”

The man, furious, pointed at the woman. ”Listen to her! Does that even sound like something a daughter would say? ’Do whatever you want’? Isn’t he your father too?”

”Calm down, calm down,” Du Heng said, trying to placate him.

Du Heng held the man back. ”Regarding your father’s condition, acupuncture combined with external applications and oral medication will lead to a faster recovery. However, treatment without acupuncture and external applications is also possible, it will just take longer—perhaps two or three months before you see results.”

Seeing the man about to speak, Du Heng raised a hand, signaling for him to wait. ”When your father was admitted, I explained that if you were concerned about the hygiene of our needle utensils or worried about infections, you could purchase your own disposable acupuncture needles for us to use. We don’t insist on using ours.”

He sighed and continued, ”But judging by the current situation, it seems you two haven’t discussed this matter. Now, I need a clear answer from both of you: do you still want your father to receive treatment here from me?”

”Yes!” the man answered immediately.

The woman, still sobbing and holding her face, looked at her brother and then at Du Heng, and finally gave a decisive nod.

”Second, do you want acupuncture treatment?”

”Yes, Doctor Du, treat him however you see fit. We have no objections.”

”Me too.”

See? A beating is what it takes, Du Heng thought. Look how readily she agrees now.

It was just a slight shame he couldn’t have done it himself.

”Third, will you use our hospital’s acupuncture needles, or will you buy your own disposable ones? You can find them in any pharmacy outside; they aren’t expensive.”

Again, the man was the first to speak. ”We’ll use the hospital’s needles. If they’re good enough for other patients, they’re good enough for my dad. Besides, I trust that you’ll sterilize them properly.”

The woman nodded again in agreement.

Du Heng released his grip on the man and gestured for Wu Buwei to do the same. ”See? The matter is resolved. We can proceed with your father’s treatment for today then.”

”Doctor Du, just do it your way, that’s fine.”

”Alright then, we’ll be on our way. The afternoon treatment session is about to begin. And remember, no more violence. If there’s an issue, talk it out properly.”

With that, Du Heng and Wu Buwei opened the hospital room door and stepped out.

Meanwhile, the patient sharing the hospital room with the old father, having enjoyed the entire spectacle, comfortably lay back down on his bed.

They had just stepped out of the room when they heard the man inside start berating his sister again. ”Stop crying! Who are you putting on a show for? I’ve put up with you for a long time, you know that? You shirk your duties, avoiding coming to the hospital to look after Dad, and when you finally show up, all you do is cause trouble! Isn’t that enough for you? Your husband hasn’t been home in three months, and your son would rather live at his school dormitory than come home. Haven’t you ever stopped to think why?”

The woman sobbed, ”How am I causing trouble? Everything I do is for their own good, for Dad’s good, isn’t it?”

”You still dare to argue? It seems to me you’re just asking for another lesson!”

As they walked further away, their voices faded, and Du Heng could no longer hear them. He and Wu Buwei exchanged a look and smiled.

This feeling, Du Heng mused, this was just right.
