This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Chapter 179: 179 Violently hurting people

Du Heng understood Wang Shiyuan’s stance from his words.

Du Heng was talking about solving his wife’s problem, and there were two ways to do that.

The first was to cure his wife’s illness.

The second was to send her to a mental hospital, where she would be under closed management and treated slowly.

However, Wang Shiyuan’s words clearly stated that he wanted to cure his wife.

I was originally thinking that if I couldn’t treat this illness, I would try to persuade Wang Shiyuan, work on his mindset, and get him to agree to send her to a mental hospital. Well, it’s best not to even bring that up now; Wang Shiyuan won’t agree. For now, I’ll just focus wholeheartedly on treating his wife. If I still can’t manage it, then I’ll have to find a way to help him with his poverty, find a way out for them.

”How about this? I’ll examine your wife first, and then we can discuss it. What do you think?”

”Don’t worry about examining her. She’s just listless like this right now. She doesn’t hit people or cause trouble; she’s very docile.”

Wang Shiyuan agreed wholeheartedly.

As long as there was even a glimmer of hope to save his wife, he didn’t want to miss it.

Du Heng moved a small stool closer and sat down, gently taking her right hand for pulse diagnosis.

Wang Shiyuan’s wife, however, seemed to come to her senses a little, her gaze slowly shifting between Du Heng’s hand and his face.

Wang Shiyuan gently patted his wife’s back and whispered, ”Don’t be afraid. Let Doctor Du take a look. You’ll be fine after he checks you.”

It was unclear what word, which syllable, or perhaps whose presence had affected Wang Shiyuan’s wife, but Du Heng felt the wrist in his grasp tighten slightly. He immediately looked up at her.

As soon as their eyes met, Du Heng sensed something was wrong.

But he realized it a bit too slowly. Wang Shiyuan’s wife suddenly grabbed the hand Du Heng was using for the pulse diagnosis and bit down hard.

”AAAHH!”

Du Heng felt a shudder shoot from the base of his spine to his forehead, and he cried out.

It’s too damn painful! For a moment, it felt like my wrist wasn’t even mine anymore.

Wang Shiyuan quickly grabbed his wife and pulled her back forcefully, but she wouldn’t let go of Du Heng’s hand or release her bite, causing Du Heng excruciating pain.

Wang Juguo, being more experienced, squatted down, leaned over, and decisively pinched Wang Shiyuan’s wife’s jaw. With a sharp application of force, she released her bite and started to wail.

Du Heng paid no attention to the others; he hurriedly clutched his wrist to examine it.

Good heavens! She bit down so hard, like she was trying to gnaw meat right off the bone!

Two neat, deep rows of teeth marks were visible. The area around them was inflamed and red, already starting to show a faint bluish tinge. The skin was broken, especially where her canine teeth had sunk in.

While holding his wife tightly, Wang Shiyuan looked up at Du Heng’s wrist. ”Doctor Du, are you okay?”

Du Heng winced in pain, but not wanting to pressure Wang Shiyuan, he gritted his teeth and said, ”I’m fine, I’m fine.”

He said that, but judging by Du Heng’s expression, he probably wasn’t fine at all.

Wang Juguo let go of Wang Shiyuan’s wife and quickly grabbed Du Heng’s wrist to inspect it. Seeing that the skin was only slightly broken, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

For a moment there, he thought Du Heng’s wrist was going to be torn off.

However, Wang Juguo immediately became angry again, demanding of Wang Shiyuan, ”Didn’t you say your wife is docile? Why did she bite someone?”

”I... I don’t know. She’s never bitten anyone before.”

”You...”

Du Heng quickly intervened, ”Don’t blame him, Wang Juguo. Nobody wants something like this to happen.”

Wang Juguo pointed at Wang Shiyuan a few times, then turned to look at Du Heng’s wrist. ”President Du, let’s go to the village clinic to get some medicine for you.”

Du Heng looked at Wang Shiyuan’s wife, who had become listless again, and could only nod.

He temporarily lost the nerve to conduct any further examinations on her.

The village doctor, Wang Shizhen, was Du Heng’s high school classmate. They had also attended university around the same time, though Du Heng completed a five-year undergraduate program while Wang Shizhen finished a four-year vocational program.

After graduation, it was difficult for graduates from vocational programs, especially medical students, to find jobs in the city. So, his father had him return to take over the practice and continue as the village doctor.

But this young man was resourceful; while working as a village doctor, he also opened an agritourism business.

In recent years, he had also been researching Medicated Diet, attracting many people who came to the mountains for leisure.

Of all the agritourism businesses in the area, his was the most successful.

It was also Wang Shizhen who had suggested Du Heng postpone his training until winter.

Now, hearing Du Heng had been bitten, he stopped working on his Medicated Diet at the agritourism site and scurried back.

He applied medicine to Du Heng’s wound, chuckling.

”President Du, you were really careless! After all, you’re a renowned Divine Doctor in Central Lake now. How could you let someone with a mental illness bite you?”

Du Heng sucked in a sharp breath from the pain. In just that short time, the entire area around the bite marks had turned a dark bruise.

”Wang Shiyuan said she was fine, and she looked listless to me, not aggressive. Sigh, I let my guard down.”

”What is Wang Shiyuan’s wife? She has a mental illness! Do you really expect someone with a mental illness to act like a normal person?”

After applying the medicine, he lightly flicked the wound. Seeing Du Heng snatch his hand back and glare at him, Wang Shizhen chuckled again. ”Alright, it just broke the skin a little. It won’t kill you. What’s there to be scared of?”

”I’m not scared; I’m in pain.”

”Pain serves you right for being so careless.”

Wang Shizhen packed up his things and decided against returning to the agritourism site. He sat down beside Du Heng and said, ”There was something I was planning to tell you at lunchtime, but since you’re free now, come with me to see someone.”

”What’s wrong?”

”There’s a woman in our village, sort of an aunt to me. She’s been working as custodial staff in the city and came home a few days ago on leave because she wasn’t feeling well. She came to me for medicine yesterday, said she had a bit of a fever and some constipation.”

Du Heng, still in a foul mood, leaned back in his chair and said lazily, ”Isn’t that simple? Don’t tell me you don’t know what medicine to use for that?”

Wang Shizhen shook his head. ”Just let me finish. The symptoms she described weren’t much, but I noticed her face was a bit yellow, and her eyes looked a bit yellow too. I think it might be hepatitis.”

Du Heng suddenly sat bolt upright, his attention instantly focused. ”Her eyeballs are yellow?”

”Slightly yellowish. I definitely saw it correctly.”

”Is she a Hepatitis B carrier?”

”Definitely not. She works as custodial staff at a kindergarten. They require medical check-ups there. If she were a Hepatitis B carrier, they wouldn’t even let her in the door.”

At this moment, Du Heng not only felt the pain in his wrist but his head also began to throb.

Yellowish face, yellow eyes, constipation, fever... could it be acute Icteric hepatitis A?

When this name popped into his mind, Du Heng felt a pang in his kidneys.

An infectious disease!

”Shizhen, if you suspected something, you should have called immediately! Why did you wait until today?”

”It’s just hepatitis. Why are you so nervous?”

”From what you’ve described, I suspect it’s acute Icteric hepatitis A.”

Wang Shizhen’s eyes widened. ”Hepatitis A?”

”I’m not sure. Take me to see her first. If it really is Hepatitis A... she works as custodial staff at a kindergarten. This could be a huge problem.”

Wang Shizhen rummaged under the medicine cabinet and took out four masks. He tossed two to Du Heng and took two for himself. ”Let’s go. I’ll take you to see her.”
