This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Chapter 187: 187 Deficiency does not accept supplementation

Wang Shiyuan and his wife went inside the house, and Du Heng finally stood up from the ground, bending over and retching in the tree hollow.

Although he had spat out the toothpaste foam from his mouth just now, it wasn’t entirely clean, and he had swallowed quite a bit of it.

It wasn’t until he had tidied himself up and gotten everything in order that he slowly walked towards the house.

As he walked, he wondered if he should also give them a kowtow in return. Otherwise, their gesture was too grand; it was a bit overwhelming.

”Du, that didn’t scare you, did it?” Wang Shizhen joked as he saw Du Heng enter. He pulled Du Heng to sit opposite Wang Shiyuan and his wife. ”My brother just said he has nothing to repay you with, so he could only kowtow to you.”

Du Heng could only offer a wry smile. ”That gesture was so grand, it almost did me in.”

While they were talking, Wang Shizhen’s wife had prepared breakfast and brought it to them.

It was very simple: an egg and bread for each person, along with a plate of pickled vegetables.

”Hurry up and have breakfast. Look how scared you were.” Wang Shizhen handed Du Heng a pair of chopsticks and then passed chopsticks to Wang Shiyuan and his wife as well.

Du Heng said nothing more and started eating his egg and bread.

Wang Shizhen, seeing that Wang Shiyuan and his wife were a bit reserved, encouraged them a few more times. Once they started eating, he turned to Du Heng and asked, ”My brother wants to ask you, what should be done about my Sister-in-law’s situation?”

Du Heng swallowed the food in his mouth in a few quick bites. ”Now that she’s conscious,” he said, ”a long illness inevitably leads to weakness, so she still needs further treatment to consolidate her recovery.” He then looked up at Wang Shiyuan. ”Did you buy medical insurance for your wife?”

Wang Shiyuan quickly nodded. ”Yes, the village helped us both buy it.”

”That’s good. My idea is to have your wife stay in our Health Clinic, where we can easily observe her. Also, the reimbursement rate will be higher if she’s hospitalized. If you simply have her recuperate at home, the cost of medication will be much higher.”

Wang Shiyuan’s hand paused as he ate, and his wife beside him also paused. She had now almost completely understood their family’s situation.

”Doctor Du, how much will this cost? Can we just buy some nourishing things for her at home?” she asked.

As soon as she said this, Du Heng knew what Wang Shiyuan was worried about.

But he still shook his head. ”Your wife’s mind has been unblocked now. Apart from her mental state not being very good, there don’t seem to be any major problems. However, your wife is currently deficient in all her five viscera; it’s a state of ’Deficiency does not accept supplementation.’ If you try to nourish her at home, it will not only have no effect but may also trigger other problems.”

Seeing Wang Shiyuan hesitate, Du Heng continued, ”As for the cost, you don’t have to worry. Our Health Clinic is a First-tier Medical Institution, and the reimbursement rate for residents in our jurisdiction is very high. Moreover, given your situation, we can achieve a reimbursement rate of eighty-five percent.

For the remaining part, have your village write an application for you and apply for some subsidies from the Township Government. We’ll help you find other ways, so ultimately, you won’t have to spend a penny.”

Wang Shiyuan and his wife were a bit emotional. Seeing that they were about to express their gratitude again, Du Heng quickly dissuaded them. ”No more thank yous, hurry up and eat. After breakfast, pack some daily necessities, and I’ll take you to the Health Clinic.”

Wang Shizhen also chimed in, ”Go on, don’t worry. Du is the Dean of the Health Clinic. If he says it won’t cost anything, it definitely won’t.”

Then, Wang Shizhen’s parents and his wife all spoke comforting words to ease the couple’s worries.

After breakfast, Du Heng drove Wang Shiyuan and his wife down the mountain, accompanied by Wang Shizhen and village director Wang Juguo.

Upon arriving at the Health Clinic, Du Heng had Wu Buwei take the couple to a hospital room to get settled, while he went to process Wang Shiyuan’s wife’s admission paperwork.

Wang Zhenzhen, who was processing the paperwork, gave Du Heng a thumbs up. ”I can’t believe you managed to resolve this tricky family situation in just three days.”

”It’s far from over,” Du Heng replied. ”My mission is to find a way for them to escape poverty, not merely to cure her illness.”

Wang Zhenzhen laughed. ”Now that such a difficult medical issue is resolved, isn’t poverty alleviation just around the corner?”

Du Heng also responded with a lighthearted smile.

Indeed, the hardest part was already done; the remaining tasks were not significant issues.

After collecting the paperwork from Wang Zhenzhen, Du Heng went to the hospital room and handed everything to Wang Shiyuan. ”You two should stay here and rest for the next little while,” he said. ”Our doctors will check on you daily, and our Canteen provides three meals a day. Just go get food for you and your wife when it’s time.”

Afterward, he called Li Nating out. ”Don’t charge these two for their meals; our clinic will provide them for free. You just need to register them when you do your daily records.”

Since Wang Lili had left a few days ago, Li Nating was temporarily in charge of the nurses’ work. Having been in the hospital room and heard the gist of the discussion, she merely nodded to indicate she understood, then continued with her tasks in the room.

Du Heng didn’t stay long and left the hospital room with Wang Shizhen and Wang Juguo.

Although Du Heng had originally wanted to invite Wang Shizhen and Wang Juguo to his office to chat, they had other matters to attend to and left right away.

Their leaving was just as well; Du Heng could take a moment to rest. As for the next family, that could wait until tomorrow.

At lunchtime, Du Heng went upstairs to invite Wang Shiyuan and his wife to the Canteen, fearing they might feel embarrassed.

As expected, the couple was hesitant. Wang Shiyuan said sheepishly, ”Doctor Du, we’d rather not eat in the Canteen. We brought our own bread, and my aunt packed some food for us.”

Du Heng stepped closer to the couple and whispered, ”What are you afraid of? Don’t forget, your family is still considered an extremely impoverished household. Your meals at the Health Clinic can be free. Don’t worry—whatever we eat, you’ll eat too.”

Then, Du Heng proactively took the lunchbox Wang Shiyuan had placed in the cabinet. ”Let’s go,” he said. ”If we’re late, there might not be enough left.”

The couple hesitantly followed Du Heng, who kept laughing and talking to ease their tension.

After helping the couple get their food, Du Heng carried his own lunchbox and walked back with them. ”Come on, let’s go to my office. We can eat and chat. Our connection isn’t just about treating illnesses, you know.”

In the office, the couple looked at the well-decorated Dean’s office and seemed even more restrained, completely unlike how casual they were in their own home.

Du Heng had them sit on the sofa and sat down beside them with his lunchbox. After taking a bite, he grinned. ”Try Chef Fan’s cooking—it’s absolutely top-notch.”

Seeing the couple was still stiff, Du Heng changed the topic. ”Wang Shiyuan, now that I’ve helped cure your wife, how are you planning to fulfill your promise to me?”

Wang Shiyuan quickly put down his chopsticks. ”Doctor Du, rest assured. As soon as my wife gets a bit better, I’ll go to the city to find a job. I can fix cars; my skills are pretty good.”

Du Heng gestured with his chopsticks. ”Eat while you talk.”

After finishing the food in his own mouth, Du Heng asked again, ”Why not run an agritourism business? I think your house is in an excellent location, and the building itself is in decent condition. With a little renovation, it should be usable. Besides, being at home, it would be convenient for you to take care of your wife.”

Wang Shiyuan gave a dry laugh. ”We’ve spent all our money on medical treatments these past few years. Setting up an agritourism business requires a lot of money. Moreover, we’ve accumulated a lot of debt over the years and can’t borrow any more. I think I should work for a few years first, pay off some of our debts, and then figure out how to start an agritourism business.”
