This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Chapter 158: 158 Little Treasure Bump

”This gentleman’s surname is Yang; he has hypertension. During the New Year, he drank alcohol and ate meat, lost control, and his blood pressure shot up, causing a cerebral hemorrhage.” Du Heng pointed to a man beside him, introducing him to Bao Mi in a joking tone. ”He was sent to JZU Second Hospital that very day. He spent four days in the ICU, followed by nine days as an inpatient. His life was saved, but his legs were paralyzed. He lay at home for two months, through March and April, and came to my clinic on May 9th. He’s been hospitalized here for 24 days so far. Now, he can move slowly on his own with the help of handrails. He was actually supposed to be discharged last week to go home, take his medicine, and recover slowly, but he insisted on staying another week.”

The man was inching forward with small steps; by the time Du Heng finished speaking, he had only moved about twenty centimeters.

Hearing Du Heng, the man immediately added, ”Staying here, you all can check on me every day, and I can recover faster with acupuncture. Why should I go home?”

”If you have the money, you can stay. What can we do about it?” Du Heng laughed and retorted.

Then he continued to walk with Bao Mi and entered another hospital room.

In the hospital room were the elderly couple he had spoken with alongside Pei Jihua last time. Seeing Du Heng enter, they both greeted him with smiles, ”Doctor Du, you’re here?”

”I came up to see you both. You’ll be discharged tomorrow. Auntie, when you go back, you’ll have to work hard to take care of Uncle.”

”Definitely, definitely. The Old Man can stand up by himself now. I believe he’ll be able to walk on his own in no time.”

”Just take the medicine on time; recovery is just a matter of time. Still, you must be careful when standing or moving on your own; someone should always be by your side to support you. If you fall and break a bone or something, then I really won’t be able to help.”

Auntie nodded vigorously, agreeing wholeheartedly, and the Old Man on the bed also kept promising that he would not move recklessly.

Leaving the hospital room, Du Heng explained, ”This old man is also paralyzed due to cerebral infarction, but it’s not as severe as your father’s case; his paralysis is confined to his lower limbs. He has been in this condition for quite some time, about a year. After more than half a month of treatment, he can now stand up and remain standing for a short while, but he still can’t walk.”

As Bao Mi listened to Du Heng’s introductions and saw one or two patients in each hospital room, her heart was finally filled with hope.

”Doctor Du, are all your patients here paralyzed like this?” Bao Mi asked.

”Almost all of them. For other illnesses, if they can be treated at home, we let them go home and take their medicine.”

After making the rounds, Du Heng took Bao Mi back to the office.

At this point, smiles wreathed the faces of both Bao Mi and her father.

”Your circumstances don’t allow for hospitalization. Otherwise, with acupuncture treatment, your father could likely be walking with a cane in about half a month.”

Bao Mi sighed lightly, but she was no longer discouraged. ”It doesn’t matter. We’ve come this far; another ten days or half a month won’t make a difference.”

”That’s true.”

Bao Mi left, this time with hope and joy in her heart.

After seeing Bao Mi off, Du Heng returned to his office to complete Li Genmao’s disease record. Then, leaning back in his chair, he pondered for more than ten minutes before opening a document on his desktop.

He had been preparing his special report for the Deputy Director title he was aiming for in early July.

Similarly, Wu Buwei and the newcomer, Xiao Li, were also working hard for the junior title examination scheduled to start in mid-July.

With his extensive knowledge and numerous cases at hand, Du Heng wrote his special report extremely quickly and was close to completion.

He was writing with great satisfaction when a car suddenly honked in the courtyard, instantly disrupting his train of thought.

Glancing at the nearly completed content, Du Heng saved and closed it, then got up and walked toward the Hall.

In front of the Hall, Lu Zhongjiang was shouting at the top of his lungs, ”Everyone, be careful! Don’t you dare bump or scratch this precious treasure of mine! I practically risked my life for it!”

While continually shouting for everyone to be cautious, he then said, ”Follow me, we’ll carry these things up to the third floor. Come on, this way, take the elevator! Don’t use the stairs.”

Du Heng looked at the two large boxes and asked Lu Zhongjiang, ”Secretary Lu, what are you moving?”

Lu Zhongjiang excitedly said, ”Dean, these are the two instruments I mentioned to you last time.”

”Are those the ones the District Hospital replaced, the ones you mentioned? The hematology analyzer and that... uh... urine... analyzer, was it?”

”Yes, yes! Those are the two machines! I managed to get them for us.”

Du Heng was also delighted. ”Secretary Lu, you’ve worked hard. I didn’t expect you to really get them.”

”It wasn’t easy, Dean. All the Health Clinics in the district had their eyes on them, using all sorts of tactics. If it weren’t for Old Lu still having some connections, we wouldn’t have been able to snag these two old things.”

”They’re really free of charge, right?” This was the issue Du Heng was most concerned about.

”Don’t worry, they’re free. And even if they did want money, now that we’ve hauled them back, we’re not paying a dime.”

”Impressive, Secretary Lu!” Du Heng gave Lu Zhongjiang a big thumbs up, then quickly made way. ”This way, up to the third floor. The room has already been cleared out.”

Hearing the news, Yu Haiting also came out, looking at the two large machines with great joy.

As a Western medicine practitioner, he always felt something was lacking without instruments.

Even though these two were discards from others, in his eyes, they were still treasures.

With the aid of these two devices, he felt he could accurately diagnose the vast majority of illnesses, getting to the bottom of things eight or nine times out of ten.

Du Heng thought for a moment, then looked at Xiao Li, who had followed Yu Haiting out, and quickly called, ”Get that fellow who came with you. What was his name... Liu something?”

Xiao Li quickly replied, ”Dean, his name is Liu Shuaijun.”

”Right, right, Liu Shuaijun! Find him and have him observe. These two pieces of equipment will be his responsibility from now on.”

”Understood.”

There were only a handful of people at the Health Clinic, so Du Heng had no choice but to ’conscript’ Liu Shuaijun, the newcomer in the Inspection Department, to learn how to operate the two instruments.

Yu Haiting thought for a moment and decided to follow along.

He wanted to learn how to use these two devices himself; that way, if he needed to use them one day and couldn’t find Liu Shuaijun, he wouldn’t be left helpless.

Du Heng watched them enter the elevator, then, with his hands behind his back, slowly ambled back to his office.

It was almost time to get off work. Du Heng figured he’d dawdle a bit, take care of a few miscellaneous things, and then it would be time to leave. Tonight was Du Yi’s birthday, and he had to get back to celebrate with his little nephew.

However, things didn’t go as planned. Just as he had packed everything, the phone rang.

”Xiao Du, bring your medical equipment and come find me immediately.”

”Alright, Leader, understood.”
