This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Chapter 159: 159 Domineering Family

The leader called, speaking vaguely. Du Heng couldn’t figure out what exactly was going on, but he also couldn’t ask too many questions. So, he obediently packed his things and rushed over as requested.

However, he first called Wang Shuqiu. ”Shuqiu, are you off work yet?”

”Yes, I just got off and am about to head back. You’re still at your workplace, right? Wait for me; I’ll come after picking up the cake.”

”Take the cake straight home; I have something to do tonight.”

”Should I wait for you?”

”Better not. The leader called and said there’s something, but he didn’t specify what. It’ll probably be late by the time I’m finished.”

Wang Shuqiu hesitated for a moment on the other end of the phone. ”Alright then, I’ll head back directly. But you should call Du Yi and let him know. He’s been talking about it for days, waiting for you to buy him toys for his birthday.”

Thinking of Du Yi wanting toys, Du Heng chuckled softly. ”Alright, I’ll call him.”

Du Yi was still young; his thoughts and needs were different from adults.

Little Uncle, you’re not coming? Doesn’t matter. The birthday party isn’t lively enough? Doesn’t matter. No birthday present? Now *that* matters.

After whining for a bit, Du Yi quickly hung up the phone when he heard his little aunt would bring the present back for him.

Du Heng had long known his little nephew’s temperament. He was very easygoing; as long as there was something to play with and eat, he could play happily all day long, even if no one else was around.

Having placated his little nephew, Du Heng went to the entrance of a residential complex as the leader had requested and waited.

Before the person he was waiting for arrived, Du Heng, with nothing else to do, looked around. It wasn’t a high-end residential complex and had clearly been built some time ago; from the outside, it looked a bit dilapidated.

Du Heng couldn’t help but wonder what kind of important figure lived here, important enough for An Chunhui to ask him to make a house call. Could it be one of An Chunhui’s relatives?

Or was he not here to see a patient at all?

Du Heng was suddenly amused by his own thoughts.

So, he wasn’t here to see a patient, but to bring his medical equipment to a banquet?

About an hour later, An Chunhui finally arrived.

An Chunhui had driven himself, not using his driver. After finding a parking spot, he pulled Du Heng along. ”You must be a bit anxious from waiting, but we still have to wait a bit longer. Let’s eat first and fill our stomachs.”

”Leader, what exactly is going on?”

”Let’s eat first; I’ll tell you later.”

At the leader’s words, Du Heng could only obediently keep quiet.

The two then casually found a small restaurant and ordered two bowls of noodles to fill their stomachs.

Back in the car, An Chunhui finally began to instruct Du Heng. ”Xiao Du, it’s just the two of us now, so I won’t beat around the bush. After we go in, don’t ask what you shouldn’t, and don’t look at what you shouldn’t. Your only task is to treat the patient. If you can cure him, it will benefit both of us. If you can’t, it doesn’t matter; we’ll just pretend we were never here today.”

Du Heng’s eyelids twitched. Was it some kind of shameful illness, one that couldn’t be spoken of?

”I understand, Leader. I’ll say what I should and keep quiet about what I shouldn’t.”

”Alright, let’s go in then.”

The building itself was unremarkable: an old residential complex with a single elevator serving four units per floor. There was nothing special about it.

However, when Du Heng followed An Chunhui into the apartment, he was stunned by the sheer ostentation of the place.

His first impression upon entering was brightness.

Du Heng felt as if he hadn’t entered a home but a KTV hall, all glittering gold and dazzling splendor. The most imposing features were two fifty-centimeter-thick pillars flanking the TV background wall, and he wondered if they were plaster or marble.

What kind of awful taste is this?

Du Heng felt he couldn’t quite appreciate it.

His second impression was its size: it was vast, incredibly so.

After a closer look, he realized this apartment had been created by knocking down the walls between it and three adjacent units.

How extravagant!

Following the maid leading the way, they passed a wall-mounted display shelf, and the bottles and jars on it caught Du Heng’s eye. Although I don’t know much about these things, he thought, given how luxurious and extravagant this place is, the owner wouldn’t display fakes. That would be too déclassé.

If they weren’t fakes... Du Heng glanced around, his heart pounding. There are so many of them.

Du Heng instantly understood why An Chunhui had cautioned him so carefully before they entered.

It was my own slow reaction and lack of experience, he berated himself, that made me realize it only now.

From then on, his eyes stopped darting about, and he obediently followed the two of them into an inner room.

After a small corridor, they entered a bedroom. Du Heng couldn’t help but look around. This bedroom is huge! he thought. They must have knocked out the wall between two original bedrooms.

The area of this bedroom, Du Heng estimated, is almost as large as the main hall of my Health Clinic.

An Chunhui, his hands clasped behind his back, subtly gestured for Du Heng to proceed, then walked forward himself.

An old man lay on the large bed in the center of the room. Du Heng couldn’t discern the specifics of his condition from this distance, but he could hear faint moans.

Standing directly in front of the bed was a middle-aged woman. She looked refined and possessed a commanding presence. Hearing the sound behind her, she merely turned her head, nodded at An Chunhui, and then returned her gaze to the old man on the bed.

On either side of the old man were two other groups, each, it seemed, consisting of a guide and a doctor they had brought, much like An Chunhui and Du Heng.

These two doctors were both much older than Du Heng. One, who looked to be in his forties, was balding. The other, older still, wore thick glasses. Those lenses, Du Heng guessed, are probably not much thinner than the bottom of a beer bottle.

Currently, the balding doctor was taking the old man’s pulse. Near the wall, the doctor with thick glasses was flipping through a thick stack of materials he held.

An Chunhui and the other two guides stood quietly to one side, not speaking to each other, merely watching the doctor attending to the old man.

Du Heng felt a bit suffocated. Why did a medical consultation have to be so oppressive?

A short while later, the balding doctor who had been taking the old man’s pulse stood up, his brow furrowed. After a moment’s thought, he walked over to the wall where the other doctor stood and began to flip through the thick stack of materials with him.

At this moment, the woman standing before the bed turned and said softly, ”Old An, let the young man you brought have a look as well.”

An Chunhui nodded, then turned to Du Heng and said, ”Xiao Du, go examine Sir too.”

Du Heng nodded, handed the bag he was carrying to An Chunhui, and walked towards the seat the balding doctor had just vacated.

He was actually quite surprised. He hadn’t expected the woman to be so direct, asking him to examine the old man without giving him a disdainful look or ignoring him because of his youth.

Even the other two pairs of guides and doctors were the same, silently watching Du Heng without any discernible reaction. It’s as if my examining the old man is perfectly normal, something that’s expected, he thought.
