The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Don’t assume a verbal engagement isn’t an engagement. If it were just a verbal agreement without any tokens, you could pretend nothing happened, but the problem is you gave them a token, and particularly, it’s a regal gift.

Isn’t that going to cost you dearly?

Imagine them coming to your door with a regal token asking for a marriage contract between the two families, then the Prime Minister’s Mansion is truly going to make a joke of itself during the New Year. Not to mention, having proposed to the Duke Dingguo Mansion, if they care, the engagement would just be over.

Even if the engagement isn’t off, if the Qingcheng Marquis Mansion starts claiming you tricked them into marriage, it would become a joke discussed over tea and dinner in the whole city. Take as a reference a certain family in the capital where a verbal engagement turned into a citywide laughingstock.

No one present is brainless. Thinking about the trouble and severity of this matter, they couldn’t help but feel a headache.

Song Ci was angrier, directly ordering the palace nanny to fetch two Calming Pills for her, then apply cooling oil. She needed to take it slowly, so as not to end up bedridden during the New Year.

The palace nanny calmly took a Calming Pill to serve her, and then applied peppermint oil on her temples to stimulate her mind.

Seeing the situation, Old Master Song wished he could escape on the spot.

Especially when faced with his sons’ accusing looks, he felt even more uneasy.

”That’s why I said Su’er’s engagement shouldn’t be set.” He muttered.

Song Ci, having calmed down, slapped the table in anger: ”Not set? Are you going to personally visit Princess Anping and the Duke Dingguo Mansion to say this engagement is not happening? Just because you set one up?”

Old Master Song shrank his neck; he dared not.

Song Zhiyuan coughed, saying, ”Dad, did you give the token? You didn’t sign any certificates, right?”

”That’s right.” Old Master Song quickly shook his head and said, ”Actually, I wanted to play tricks and act drunk to get the token back, but the old man from Qingcheng Marquis was very cunning and insisted that a settled matter cannot be reneged, then he fled.”

”You should have sent someone back to say something then.” Song Zhiyuan massaged his forehead.

Old Master Song thought he was just guilty at the time.

”Su’er’s engagement is impossible to change. Not to mention, the Princess has already visited the Duke Mansion to propose, and both the Emperor and Empress Dowager know about it. Even if they didn’t, I still think the Duke Dingguo Mansion’s girl is suitable to be our family’s eldest grandson’s wife.” Song Zhiyuan tapped the table as he spoke.

Old Master Song dared not oppose this eldest son, looked around and said, ”If that’s the case, it doesn’t matter, our family doesn’t just have one grandson.”

His eyes fell on Song Zhicheng and Mrs. Lu.

Song Zhicheng’s face turned green: ”...”

Mrs. Lu said dumbly, ”Dad, Zhou’er is only eight years old.”

If Qingcheng Marquis Mansion had an appropriately aged and intelligent girl, she wouldn’t mind, since they’re nobility too. But the child is too young; there’s too much uncertainty.

Old Master Song firmly looked at Song Zhicheng, saying, ”Zhou’er is young, but haven’t the twins reached the age for engagement? Any one of them will do, I think that girl is truly quite nice.”

Song Zhicheng jumped up like a grasshopper, shouting loudly, ”Dad, are you planning to screw us over completely?”

”Watch your words, I’m your dad!” Old Master Song glared at him.

Song Zhicheng thought if he weren’t his dad, he’d have hit him already.

Song Ci couldn’t take it anymore, glancing coldly at Old Master Song and said, ”Why torment my grandsons? I think, since you’ve sent the token out, why don’t you cultivate that seed yourself, and take her as a concubine instead? Don’t harm my grandsons.”

Song Zhiyuan and Song Zhicheng were visibly frustrated.

Imagine calling a girl who could be your daughter a concubine; that would be overwhelmingly ridiculous.
