The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Personal belongings?

Aunt Mei and Aunt Shui exchanged glances and said, ”Sometimes the old master is quite generous. If he fancies something he’s wearing, he’ll gift it away, so this...”

Could it be missing?

Song Ci felt frustrated; this irresponsible old man.

”Are there any items that seem particularly important and showcase one’s status missing?” Nanny prompted.

Aunt Shui thought for a moment and said, ”The ring, the ring is missing.”

At this moment, Nanny’s face changed, and she asked, ”Is it the imperial-given jade ring?”

”I don’t know if it was imperial-given, but it’s the one the old master usually wore,” Aunt Shui said. ”I even asked him about it, and he said he gave it away.”

Song Ci and Nanny exchanged a glance; the former’s face turned as dark as the bottom of a pot. Are imperial gifts something that can be arbitrarily given away? Is the old man losing his mind?

”Call Changgui to ask,” Song Ci said with a stern face. Regardless of whether the jade ring was used as a token or given to someone, its whereabouts must be known, as it is an imperial gift that cannot be casually lost or given away, which is very disrespectful.

Aunt Shui, seeing her unfavorable expression, felt a bit nervous and timidly asked, ”Madam, did I do something wrong?”

”You didn’t do anything wrong, just that there are some things you haven’t learned yet. You must remember that anything imperial-given cannot be casually given away, so regarding the old master’s belongings, you also need to understand their origin and can’t just say they’re gifted away,” Song Ci told Nanny. ”While it’s time for the New Year in the house, have the old maid managing the old master’s private store take out the ledger for them to identify everything, so they don’t be muddled in ignorance.”

”Yes.”

Nanny agreed, then sent someone to summon Changgui, who was serving Old Master Song.

Changgui, however, wasn’t at the residence; apparently, he had just returned and, before he could sit down, the old master instructed him to go back to the estate to get something.

Song Ci was furious.

She knew the old man coming back would mean trouble.

”Forget it, I’ll ask him myself,” Song Ci said with a dark expression.

Nanny asked, ”Should we invite the old master to come over?”

Song Ci shot her a glance, inquiring with her eyes.

Nanny coughed and said, ”I’m afraid you’ll lose your temper again and explode in front of the younger generation, embarrassing both of you.”

Song Ci: ”...”

You are indeed a good person.

”When you two old ancestors clash, those below won’t dare to utter a single sound, whether they’re young or serving staff, especially now with the New Year approaching.”

Nanny must be given face, Song Ci huffed and said, ”Fine, as you wish; go and invite him over.”

Nanny quickly sent someone to invite him.

Yet, it seemed Old Master Song deserved a scolding. Seeing Song Ci send someone to invite him, he assumed she missed him and became quite pleased with himself, dawdling and refusing to move. He kept saying he was tired from travel and needed a rest, or he needed to bathe and change clothes, delaying until the evening small family banquet before he appeared.

Song Ci sneered at that moment and said to Nanny, ”See, you wasted your effort being a good person. Don’t blame me if I don’t give him face as an old man.”

Nanny was speechless too.

Even more speechless were the two aunts, wanting desperately to storm to Songhe Hall to drag the old master to Madam to be punished.

Being honest is far more respectable than being interrogated harshly.

Unfortunately, Old Master Song was different; he wanted everyone to see who truly was the master of the house.

Song Ci held back.

After the pleasant small family banquet ended, the old master’s familiar mischievous routine began again, just like when he was about to take a second wife, he opened with ”I have some happy news to announce.”

Everyone’s hearts skipped a beat and followed his gaze.

Song Lingsu: ”???”

A sense of impending doom.
