The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 593: Chapter 593: This Year’s Madam is Too Difficult to Manage

As a servant woman, what’s the most frightening thing? Naturally, it’s having a difficult master. Nanny says that her own Madam is getting harder to handle.

In this cold weather, she insists on running out to watch the spectacle. If it were for a handsome man, that might be excused since her fondness for handsome men is a well-established fact.

Yet, she insists on watching the procession of Princess Consort Ji into the capital.

”Nanny, don’t frown, it’s not cold sitting here at all.” Song Ci glanced at her personal housekeeper, feeling a bit guilty.

No sooner had she spoken, a northern wind blew by, slapping her face like a gusty slap, making her shiver. Her nose itched, and she sneezed.

Song Ci: ”...”

The face-smacking came as swiftly as the north wind.

Nanny looked at Hong You and the others, who started bustling about, either bringing over a cloak or fetching hot tea and a warming jar.

”If you want to watch, there’s no need to sit here facing the wind, is there? The wind is not too strong?”

Song Ci grinned sheepishly, ”This spot is best; as soon as people arrive, you can see everything clearly.”

Nanny said helplessly, ”With the Dowager returning to the capital, whether or not there will be a banquet in the palace, Prince Min Mansion will certainly host a banquet, inviting various noble Madams. Then, you won’t worry about not seeing what that person looks like, right?”

Song Ci chuckled, ”Your Madam is curious, there’s a word for it—getting a sneak peek. Besides, isn’t this on the way? Once we’ve seen the true face of this Princess Consort Ji, we’ll head to Prince Dingbei’s Mansion.”

”In the end, you just want to see the spectacle.” Nanny exposed her without hesitation.

Song Ci laughed, ”Nanny, don’t say it out loud.”

Look at this trickster, there’s no way to argue back.

Just as Song Ci had sung countless times ’for you, I face the cold wind,’ several horses leading the way appeared in view.

”They’re coming.” The maids exclaimed aloud.

Song Ci’s eyes lit up, she immediately sat up straight, craning her neck to look over.

”This procession is quite impressive.”

The leading horses were merely clearing the way, driving the people on the street to the sidelines, not allowing them to block the road. Some pedestrians or vendors who couldn’t dodge in time were directly knocked to the ground.

Seeing this, Song Ci felt a bit depressed.

Before the aristocracy, commoners are like dogs; with the aristocrats’ arrival, chaos ensues.

Sigh.

Nanny, thinking Song Ci was envious, smiled and said, ”You needn’t sigh. With your status, your procession could have the same grandeur.”

In fact, it’s not just Song Ci; some women of even lower ranks than her would also have servants and guards clearing the way to show their status.

Song Ci said blandly, ”When have you ever seen me travel with such pomp?”

Nanny paused for a moment, following her gaze. She saw an old man tremblingly helping up a young granddaughter who was frightened and crying, and couldn’t help feeling a flush of shame.

She solemnly bowed to Song Ci, ”This old maid was shortsighted.”

Song Ci teased with a laugh, ”See how anxious you are, getting worked up over a couple of words.”

She’s not sneering at ostentatious travel; after all, power is something some people like to flaunt, while others prefer to be low-key, it’s just a matter of personal choice.

Considering things like this, mere clearing is tolerable. More arrogant ones would gallop horses on the street, trampling people to death; often, if commoners died, it was settled with compensation money.

No way around it, that’s aristocracy for you.

Song Ci wasn’t hung up on the pomp aspect either. Her sharp eyes spotted the main body of the procession appear, with a young man clad in purple, wearing a golden crown, riding a tall horse encircled by guards coming into view.
