The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 577: Chapter 577: Teaching the Daughter-in-law, Distinction between Legitimate and Illegitimate

The Lu family felt somewhat aggrieved; Song Ci’s words undeniably negated her character.

”I don’t intend to view you with malice. I’m just giving you a heads-up because, often, people act impulsively. I’m afraid you might get overwhelmed by hatred and do something wrong.” Song Ci sighed, ”So, whether you hate me or not, it doesn’t matter. After all, I’m just your mother-in-law. What I want to tell you is, before you do anything, think about your children – is it worth it?”

Lu pursed her lips.

”Go back and think carefully about my words, Lu. As fellow official wives, I understand that concubines can be an eyesore. What I’m saying now, isn’t it from the perspective of an official wife? Mistreating children from concubines, do you think it’s worth it when such a reputation spreads?”

”Mother, I can’t be magnanimous,” Lu said with a pouted mouth.

”Then treat them with a normal heart. As I said, I don’t expect you to be particularly good to them, just fulfill your responsibilities as a legitimate mother. Lu, not to mention a daughter of concubine, that’s just about giving a marriage dowry. As for a son of a concubine, his future and whether he’s promising, for instance, if he becomes an official, the first Imperial Decree he seeks must be for you. Why? Because you are the legitimate mother.”

In ancient times, honor first went to the legitimate mother, and the biological mother had to stand aside, all due to the distinction between legitimate and concubine.

Lu: ”...”

The little brat is only a few months old; she hadn’t thought that far ahead.

But if that’s the case, Bai would probably be extremely upset, right?

Thinking of this, the grievance in Lu’s heart slightly lightened.

Seeing her complexion improve greatly, Song Ci continued, ”There’s one more thing, which I originally didn’t intend to say, but for Zhou’er and the others, I’ll speak a bit more.”

”Mother, please speak.”

”Bai’s entry is already set; don’t think about raising a few more concubines to divide her favor.”

Lu blushed; could it be that her mother-in-law could see through her thoughts? She really had thought about that.

”To fight over a grain of food for a sparrow, would you catch more sparrows to fight over it, chirping noisily and making no end of trouble? A messy back courtyard is a sign of a disordered home; it affects your mood and the children.” Song Ci once again brought up the children, saying, ”Parents are teachers to their children. If they see a filthy and chaotic back courtyard from a young age, what good will it do their growth? Can they be happy and joyful? Lu, a simple and clean back courtyard is undoubtedly more comfortable than one that’s chaotic.”

”The Old Master and I will eventually die. When the two of us old bones are gone, the brothers including the third son will have to split the household. In the future, when your three branches live separately in one mansion, if you can’t manage it well, it’s a problem of your abilities as the Lady.”

Frightened, Lu immediately said, ”Mother, you will live a long and healthy life.”

Frightened to death, if the elder brother and sister-in-law heard that Song Ci cursed herself for the affairs of the third branch, wouldn’t they blame her?

”Living a long and healthy life is for old witches, I refuse to be one,” Song Ci said disdainfully, ”That’s all I have to say. No more words. You have your own ideas; go back and think carefully on my words. If I were you, from now on, I’d only do two things: first, secure your position as the official wife and save up some private money. The second, and most important, is to raise your children well, as they are your strongest backup. Don’t believe it? Look at me as your example!”

Whatever about young couples aging together, it’s already unreliable. In ancient times, many noble families didn’t go for this, otherwise, where would so many men taking concubines come from?

Therefore, make money and raise your children well. Like me, extremely wealthy, extremely noble, better than a drumstick.
