The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 578: Chapter 578: One Must Have Principles

After Song Ci saw Lu Shi leave, she immediately waved to Nanny Gong.

”Quick, bring some tea, I’m dying of thirst.”

Nanny Gong poured the tea and offered it to her with both hands, watching her eagerly gulp it down, she couldn’t help but twitch her mouth.

”Why do you bother, you’ve been instructing the Third Madam not just once or twice, but repeatedly. Whether she understands your painstaking efforts is her own fate.”

It’s not just a saying, Song Ci has continuously guided Lu Shi, to put it bluntly, she’s been showering her with silver. If Lu Shi grasps these principles, it’s her gain.

Which mother-in-law would be so painstaking and kind-hearted towards a concubine daughter-in-law? To care so deeply without glaring at her, who else would bother about the trivial matters in her house?

Nanny Gong also blamed Song Zhiqing; if he weren’t so lustful, Song Ci wouldn’t have to trouble herself like this, wearing out her own body.

She should have been enjoying a peaceful retirement and maintaining her health, but instead, she’s worrying herself over these matters.

Song Ci drank a cup of tea and sighed, ”I’m afraid she’ll lose her mind in a moment of recklessness and commit those heartless, vile acts.”

”You do seem to care a lot about those children of Little Concubine Bai.”

Song Ci sighed, ”It’s not about caring; it’s about having a moral baseline. I’m too familiar with the strife between legitimate and concubine-born children, the disturbing events in the inner quarters affecting children. Just thinking about it makes me uncomfortable. I don’t want to see the Song Mansion like that in my lifetime.”

Nanny Gong remained silent.

There is an inherent distinction and rivalry between legitimate and concubine-born children, and women vying for favor often bring harm to the children, which is common.

”Let them vie for favor, but if they use tactics against each other, that’s one thing. But to harm the children, isn’t that kind of vying laughably foolish? What wrong have the children done to suffer because of their parents’ issues?” Song Ci put down the teacup and said, ”Nanny Gong, when people are driven by anger and lose their reasoning, they easily end up doing things they regret. Some, once, and then again, ultimately destroy themselves; why bother?”

Crimes committed in the heat of passion happen everywhere; historically, there are countless cases of legitimate mothers killing their husband’s concubine-born children. Whether their consciences hurt or not is unknown, but their reputations certainly aren’t good.

Song Ci just doesn’t want Song Lingzhou to have to bear the consequences of his mother’s potential mistakes, so giving a few reminders doesn’t cost much effort. This is taking preventive measures; whether it works is unknown, but a warning must be set in place first.

”I wonder if the Third Madam will understand your painstaking efforts.” Nanny Gong sighed.

Song Ci lowered her eyes, ”I’ve done all I can. Nanny Gong, since I’m the Old Lord of this mansion, enjoying this honor and wealth, I must take on the responsibilities of the matriarch. It’s my duty to protect the Song Mansion.”

She’s not the original body, but she’s truly enjoying it; there’s no such thing as just enjoying without responsibilities. She’s also afraid of the original old lady pounding on her bed at midnight!

Moreover, by protecting the Song Mansion, she can retreat once her mission is accomplished, and perhaps she might actually return to modern times after her death. If so, that would be a great gain.

Song Ci says she’s not afraid of death, but she’s never truly been in love, never been a mother; she has to at least try, or else she’d be a virgin ghost?

That would be too much of a loss!

Even if she claims not to fear death, it’s the modern world she longs to return to; that’s her real home.

So she must do whatever benefits the Song Mansion; she has to do it. Therefore, she must gather all those achievements intensely, even though she doesn’t know if the original old lady has painted a big picture for her.

Nanny Gong listened to her ambiguous words, her eyes flickering slightly.
