The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 576: Chapter 576: Let’s Speak Frankly Beforehand

No matter the conflicts between adults, no tactics should ever be brought upon children. This is Song Ci’s bottom line.

Her words were a warning not only to Bai Shuilian but also to Mrs. Lu.

Everyone present was somewhat taken aback; no one expected Song Ci to be so straightforward, treating everyone equally, regardless of who they were. The bottom line was that no matter how adults fight, they must not involve the children.

Song Zhiqing felt uneasy and his face burned as if sitting on pins and needles.

Mrs. Lu was the first to stand up. She bowed and said, ”Mother, your daughter-in-law will restrain the concubines and servants and dare not go against your words.”

Bai Shuilian also softly expressed her stand, not daring to have any different thoughts.

Although Song Ci’s words carried a hint of admonishment towards her, from another perspective, they also provided protection for her two children, at least sparing her the worry about whether the Lady would use underhanded methods against them.

”I know you all harbor grievances, but I’m telling the harsh truths upfront. Old third, you also heard it. If you don’t handle the household affairs well, your biological mother will teach you how to behave!”

Song Zhiqing: ”...”

Where is the ground opening; he wanted to crawl into it.

”Bring the children up for me to see.” Song Ci gestured for the nannies holding the children to come forward and asked, ”How many months old are they?”

”Replying to the Dowager’s words, the brother and sister were born in May. The brother is the older one,” Bai Shuilian personally replied.

Song Ci acknowledged with a sound, lifted the swaddling clothes to take a careful look, and said, ”They look quite sturdy, and despite being so young, they traveled back in carriages without any issues. You’ve cared for them meticulously.”

”The children were too small to rush the journey, so upon receiving the news, we let them start slowly,” Song Zhiqing replied.

Song Ci had Nanny Gong take out the prepared longevity locks for the two children and simply instructed them to return to settle in.

”Mrs. Lu, stay back for a moment.”

Song Zhiqing raised his eyebrows but dared not say more, leading Bai Shuilian and her children to withdraw.

Once Bai Shuilian and her party had left, Song Ci looked at Mrs. Lu and said, ”Do you feel that my earlier words favored the Bai family?”

Mrs. Lu was startled and quickly stood up, saying, ”Your daughter-in-law does not dare.”

”I don’t care whether you dare or not, whether you are resentful, I still hold to my words: Regardless of how you fight, the children are off-limits... Don’t interrupt me. Listen to what I say,” Song Ci continued, ”No child is born bad. It all depends on how adults teach and guide them. Children are innocent and should not be dragged into adult grievances.”

”It’s not that I overly favor those two children. There’s a difference between legitimate and illegitimate children, as well as precedence. Even if those children are twins, emotionally, they can never surpass Zhou’er and Wei’er in my heart. The reason I say these words is that if adult matters lead to the children being wronged, no matter how right the adult, they become unbearable.”

Mrs. Lu was stunned.

”It’s understandable for you to have hatred and resentment. You can set rules for the Bai family, but when it comes to the children, I don’t expect you to treat them exceptionally well. Fulfill your duties as the legitimate mother. Do not think of mistreating them, because how the children turn out is something people will always see. And your actions will ultimately affect your own children. People will judge Wei’er based on how they see you.”

People often believe that like mother, like daughter. A mother’s actions inevitably influence her daughter, and when a mother-in-law chooses a daughter-in-law, she will also consider what kind of person the daughter-in-law’s mother is.

Even if there are those who surpass their mothers, there are quite a few who are initially prejudiced. If it affects her own daughter’s future reputation and marriage prospects, it will be too late for regret.

Mrs. Lu’s throat worked as she asked, ”Does Mother think I would harm those two children?”
