I AM the Football Star

Someone went so far as to fake an invitation card like this.

In the end, they had to feign illness during the actual ceremony to avoid being exposed.

Yet Lu Yang had a real invitation and still didn’t go.

What the heck!

If I’d known this earlier, you should have sold it to me!

Lu Yang, due to this issue, was pushed to the top trending spot in China.

Fans of the celebrity attacked for faking an invitation were bombarding Lu Yang’s social media back home.

”A footballer, with an Oscar invitation? Is the fake ID business abroad that advanced?”

”This guy is just a marketing gimmick. He was already stirring up things during the Golden Ball Award, and now he wants to ride the Oscar wave too!”

”Exactly, do you know how hard our dear Zhan Zhan works? He’s still lying in a hospital bed!”

”I just don’t believe a sports person could get a ticket to the Oscars. Do you know what level you must reach in the entertainment industry to get such an invitation?”

”If there was a real chance to go, who wouldn’t? It looks so fake!”

”Yeah, faking things and still daring to get clicks and comments at home? He can’t possibly have such high popularity!”

”Have football fans gone mad? The football scene is tiny. How can it appear on the trending list?”

”Who is Lu Yang? Never heard of him! Has his drama aired on Penguin Video?”

”Judging by looks and age, he’s a newbie, right? Which company’s trainee is this, buying a top trending spot outright?”

”But going the Europe route is a new approach. These years, everyone’s been doing the South Korea trainee return path. Why didn’t anyone think of gilding themselves in Europe before?”

A group of fervent idol fans carried out various attacks on Lu Yang.

It was laughable yet understandable.

People immersed in their own world typically accept less from the outside.

What’s more, Lu Yang being a screenwriter, although highly influential in the industry, backstage personnel never have the widespread reach of those on stage.

Even Feng Xiaogang or Zhang Yimou, top directors in China, are not necessarily known by young people who don’t actively search Baidu. However, they can be experts on the leads in any small idol drama.

But to their dismay, at this Oscar ceremony, globally broadcast by over three hundred media outlets, Lu Yang proved with his actions that he genuinely didn’t forge an invitation.

No need.

Because he...

”Now, I am honored to announce, this year’s Oscar for Best Screenplay goes to... the ’Gone Girl’ crew... Lu Yang!”

Applause erupted!

For a moment, the domestic group questioning Lu Yang was dumbfounded.

Lu Yang?

Chinese pronunciation?

This...

In recent years, the Oscar’s influence has been at its peak, and those not present don’t win awards.

But Lu Yang wasn’t present.

At this point, a woman stepped onto the stage to accept the award.

Some fans immediately flooded the comments: ”Same name only, it’s not that Lu Yang, don’t worry everyone.”

Below, a regular user couldn’t stand it anymore and said, ”This is Sofia.”

Fans replied, ”Oh? Sofia has a Chinese name too? Wow, I feel so respected. We should give more opportunities to foreign actors who respect us like this!”

Regular user: ”She probably doesn’t really need the opportunities you give. She’s also a director herself, with her film nominated for Best Picture, one of this year’s big hits.”

Fans: ”So talented? Great, I hope she can work with our brother! And I also hope that football guy Lu Yang learns from our brother and gets opportunities to collaborate with big names through genuine talent, rather than trying to ride on popularity!”

The normal user couldn’t hold back anymore: ”The football Lu Yang you mentioned is exactly the Lu Yang who won the Oscar for Best Screenplay. Sofia is Lu Yang’s girlfriend, and the movie Sofia shot was based on the script Lu Yang wrote for her. This is the second one.”

”The first was ’The Invisible Guest,’ you may have seen it, or maybe not, you probably only watch your Zhan Zhan’s lousy films.”

”No offense to your Zhan Zhan, ’lousy’ is an objective assessment. Adding my subjective opinion, it would be extremely lousy.”

The fans were stunned.

This Lu Yang is that Lu Yang?

This...

Some fans’ pride was hurt: ”How can you talk about our Zhan Zhan like that? This year when the south had heavy winds, he donated a hundred thousand! He often does charity!”

Regular user: ”Since Lu Yang’s second year of career, he has been donating domestically. Last year, he even set up his own football foundation, also for charity, with investments in the tens of millions.”

”Considering he’s likely to transfer this year and his income could skyrocket, the charitable unit could potentially be in the billions.”

”Honestly speaking, your Zhan Zhan has earned quite a bit too. But the amount he donated likely isn’t even one percent of his amount evaded in taxes, right?”

”There are many things you may not understand, and you can talk nonsense about it. But limit that to your idols only, don’t casually comment on others. Otherwise, it exposes your ignorance and stupidity.”

”If Lu Yang were to stop playing football now and directly develop in the mainland entertainment industry, every big entertainment company you know would be madly scrambling for him! The scriptwriters and directors your Zhan Zhan is bending over for now, none of them have better achievements or harder honors than what Lu Yang’s works have achieved!”

The regular users went wild.

And Sofia, after speaking on behalf of Lu Yang, stepped down from the stage.
