I AM the Football Star

Chapter 220: Chapter 81: Penalty Shootout?

”Attack! Everyone, attack! What have you been doing for the past ten minutes!” Benevento’s head coach yelled.

”Defend! Everyone defend! Hold on! Don’t give them any chances!” Sotu shouted just as loudly.

If players are pushing their limits with their stamina in the final moments, then coaches compete with their voices in the end.

Because the match had long deviated far from their plans.

Due to the high number of goals in this match, the extra time was a full five minutes.

In the third minute of extra time, Benevento had a very good shooting opportunity.

But Lu Yang’s sliding tackle blocked the shot, only giving the opponents a corner kick chance.

Lu Yang’s defense was met with applause from the entire crowd.

Benevento took the corner kick, opting for the near post.

Vedian charged from the middle directly to the near post, still moving very fast, and his marker, Matias, lost his position.

Vedian attempted a back header at the near post, intending to flick it to a teammate.

However, unfamiliar with headers, he failed to control the direction, and the ball slipped into the net at an extremely tight angle.

The San Remo Stadium fell silent in an instant.

No one could find words, including Vedian himself.

4:4!

Upon confirming his goal, Vedian woke up as if from a dream, and immediately ran towards the technical area.

”I can do it! I damn well can!” Vedian shouted at his coach.

And his head coach was not the least bit angry, instead, he was equally overwhelmed, hugging him and shouting, ”Yes, you damn well can, you absolutely can! You’re simply a god!”

Vedian finally received the acknowledgment from his head coach.

He was like a god descended today, achieving a hat-trick.

The match was tied at the last minute!

Especially considering he was a player for San Remo last season.

This was all simply incredible!

San Remo and Benevento reached an unexpected tie at the end of the ninety-minute regular time.

They would enter overtime after a short rest and tactical arrangements.

This was also San Remo’s first experience of such a match.

...

”We’ve exhausted too much!” was the first thing Benevento’s assistant coach said, ”This will have a huge impact on our league, and I don’t understand why we had to play like this against San Remo in a virtually meaningless cup match.”

Benevento’s head coach sighed, he didn’t want it this way either.

But what can you do when everybody has different positions?

Darn it!

Even if they win the Italian Cup, it will only increase their burden for the later matches, but they still have to fight desperately to win, it’s really frustrating.

If it really affects the league, and they fail to get promoted, they won’t have a good outcome.

Similarly, on the other side, San Remo was also very worried about the upcoming overtime.

Rondo would be replaced by a substitute.

Fernandez cramped up, he needed to be substituted too, he’s still young, he’s not Lu Yang, he can’t endure that much running.

And Sogel and Bai Zhami were also almost done.

Latu Yidi had also entered low-power mode.

Overtime was not good news for them, especially with their lack of squad depth.

Vedian really brought great trouble to San Remo.

”Just give me the ball, I’ll use offense to suppress their attack.” Lu Yang said, at this stage, they had almost completely lost their defense, their defensive stalwarts were finished.

What was once a Copper Wall and Iron Wall built on running and veterans had now completely collapsed.

Stamina became the biggest opponent for San Remo.

For now, the only option was to use attack instead of defense.

”Okay, everyone give the ball to Lu Yang, the rest of you focus on defense, reduce your involvement in the attack,” Sotu didn’t hesitate.

Meanwhile, as normal playing time was over, Carlo’s gift finally arrived.

The Moment Card’s gifts always gave Lu Yang a substantial boost, even now it was still the case.

Most of his stats had reached the level of a player from the Five Major Leagues.

Although this didn’t mean Lu Yang was at that level, he still had many shortcomings.

But overall, his offense might have reached the Serie B limit!

Moreover, Lu Yang’s Perpetual Motion Machine had activated its second level.

He even had the confidence to activate the third-tier effect in the first half of added time.

By then, he would be terrifyingly strong.

Therefore, the outcome of this match may not be as widely predicted, with Benevento having the advantage.

Benevento has the squad depth.

But San Remo has Lu!

Sky TV.

The host and Maniero continued their discussion during this time.

Host: ”So you still insist San Remo will win? They’ve already been crushed. Being equalized in the last moments is definitely a huge blow, they will be low in morale.”

Maniero: ”Don’t you know Lu Yang’s psychological quality is very tough? Tough as nails! This will only encourage him to play even harder!”

Host: ”Alright, then what about squad depth? San Remo already has two players lying on the ground unable to get up, they’ll be substituted, and their substitute quality is not high.”

Maniero: ”At this point, players are competing more on stamina and willpower. And in these two aspects, Lu Yang has the advantage.”

Host: ”Umm, but he’s only one person.”

Maniero: ”Sometimes, one person is enough to decide the outcome of a match!”

Beep!

A whistle blew.

Overtime began.

After Lu Yang got the ball, he passed it back to his teammate, shrinking the formation.
