I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Gauss fell into a long silence.

Even someone like him, when faced with this kind of decision, needed to think it over thoroughly.

The guild leader on the opposite side knew he was weighing the pros and cons in his heart, simply holding a teacup and quietly blowing the steam.

Gauss’s mind was racing.

This mission was undoubtedly a solo assignment.

Having more people would increase the risk of exposure, so when the time came, he would temporarily separate from the Red Dragon Team members, infiltrate the enemy camp alone under the cover of the front-line battle, and explore the situation.

In fact, he didn’t think his risk of exposure was that high.

The reason was simple. If the Green Dragon Queen could completely understand his intelligence, he would have encountered more ambushes in his daily life.

But so far, he had faced very few crises; the only significant one was when the Dragon Worship Sect lured him by leveraging Aaliyah’s breakthrough outside.

Strictly speaking, that encounter couldn’t be considered the enemy having precise knowledge of his whereabouts; it was simply a coincidence that they crossed paths at Flute Castle, where the Dragon Worship Sect was active, so they targeted him.

Thinking from another perspective, if he were the Green Dragon Queen, knowing about his potential, and could accurately foresee his location through some means, she would undoubtedly send a demon assassin to take his life, especially before he had gained his current strength.

He seemed to have been on the bounty list of the demon faction long ago; he heard his name from other high-ranking demons while completing commissions in Black Water Town.

Since the enemy demons hadn’t done so, it could only mean they couldn’t.

The best timing was before his combat power broke into the Extraordinary Level; now, it’s just that the difficulty of killing him has increased significantly.

His strength might be unmatched against many Extraordinary Demons, but to kill him completely was not that simple either.

Firstly, it must have a certain flying ability, best be proficient in long-range attacks, and have no shortcomings in speed and reconnaissance methods. If it could possess space manipulation of the same level, that would be even better.

Otherwise, if slightly careless, he would escape using the Any Door and his extremely high Perception.

Few would say a fly is stronger than a human, and these two are vastly different in life’s hierarchy, but objectively speaking, trying to kill a fly barehanded isn’t a simple task either.

This is the strength of the Hexagon Warrior.

Additionally, delving into the Jade Forest to eliminate the young dragons’ nest indeed was dangerous, but it also depended on the current period.

The clouds of war were gradually enveloping the Borderland. If war were to break out, the demon faction would inevitably send most of their forces to the front, leaving the rear emptier than the front lines.

Indeed, he could maneuver and stealthily advance to the far rear using his mobility and stealth.

Unless he left the Cold Jade Province, abandoning this human and demon war, there was no safety as long as he remained on this land.

Even if he escaped this time, where could he go?

The war initiated by the Green Dragon Queen was most likely just a prelude to a larger conflict, inevitably drawing all humans into this war between factions.

And the significance of the Giant Dragon was something Gauss understood better than anyone.

He, himself, was a beneficiary of it.

Killing them before the young dragons could grow not only benefitted himself but also preemptively nipped the potential future threat at its source.

As for the Green Dragon Queen, who was like the Sword of Damocles hanging overhead, there was no need to worry too much about her.

It’s not that Gauss’s strength could entirely disregard the threat she posed, but rather if the mysterious strong one the guild leader mentioned couldn’t keep the Green Dragon Queen in check, there was still a strong likelihood of being targeted on the front line, possibly meeting a swifter death due to proximity.

Gauss organized all the pros and cons.

The only thing that still worried him was his teammates in the Red Dragon Team. If war were to break out and he left the team, would it create a chaotic situation?

”But if I leave, what about my adventure group?”

Gauss voiced his concerns.

”Don’t worry, if you go to execute this mission, our Guild naturally wouldn’t draft your adventure group to appear on the front-line battlefield. If your members wanted to join, I could utilize my authority to arrange them in a combat area closest to me. I could then protect them at any moment.”

Once war broke out, whether soldiers, adventurers, or other professions, those involved wouldn’t flock together. The battle line would stretch quite long, and in this case, there would undoubtedly be both dangerous and relatively safe zones. Even strong individuals have limited energy and can’t cover all ends.

The implication of Matthias Monroe was he would try to protect the Red Dragon Team as much as possible.

Hearing this, the worry on Gauss’s face eased slightly.

”President Monroe, I might need to go back and discuss with my partners, and I’ll give you an answer tomorrow,” Gauss said, standing up.

”Alright, go back and think it over. But regardless of whether or not you accept the commission, please don’t share specific details of this mission with too many people.” Monroe already saw the change in Gauss’s expression.

”I understand.”

Gauss nodded.

Intel was crucial. If it were accidentally leaked and the Green Dragon Queen’s forces learned about it, they would inevitably make targeted arrangements in advance, causing enormous risk, whether executing the commission himself or having someone else do it.
