Global Game: I Have Portable Store

Chapter 417: Chapter 3: Missing

At night, the streetlights shone through the cracks in the window, casting shadows on the brown wooden floor.

Su Changxing slowly opened his eyes. He had slept for about four hours. He could have slept longer, but he subconsciously woke up, his body’s vigilance still intact.

”Such a stable environment is overly comfortable and can make one lazy, docile.”

He didn’t necessarily see this as a bad thing, but if there were an external threat and humans were no longer at the top of the food chain in this world, it would be different.

He held two phones in his hand, one from the Doomsday Game, and one real phone, both without any messages.

”Has Zhong Jueqing also died? Or did he think I was already dead, so he didn’t try to contact me, since in the real world I’m someone who can’t even stand up.”

······

Su Changxing was stunned for a moment, sensing something amiss, and quickly opened the window, just in time to see a car on the street crash into the guardrail at high speed, making a loud noise that sounded particularly shrill in the dead of night.

The person in the car was crushed at the chest and died instantly.

At that moment, he felt an uneven change in the energy environment, though subtle, he could still detect it.

”Does it matter?”

He wasn’t sure if this was just a normal car accident.

Soon, traffic police and a tow truck arrived at the scene. Everything seemed normal.

······

In the morning, there were still no messages. The phone was still without internet access. But the more it was like this, the more Su Changxing felt something was off, as if something was quietly brewing.

Wang Liang was still fast asleep; last night’s car accident on the street hadn’t disturbed him at all.

”Sleeping like the dead.”

Su Changxing changed into an old set of clothes and found they were a full size smaller, but he could still barely wear them. His body hadn’t noticeably grown bigger.

Without waiting for Wang Liang to wake up, Su Changxing went out, intending to find Huang Biao, who had been in the same city before the apocalypse.

Huang Biao ran a bar called Bar No. 35 in the city center.

”Huang Biao’s survival skills are strong, there’s a high chance he’s fine······”

He took a cab directly to the city’s center to this bar.

In the morning, there weren’t many people inside, only a few dead drunk, slumped over the bar, and a waiter cleaning up.

Su Changxing looked around and went straight to the young man at the front desk wearing a bow tie, asking, ”Is your boss here? I’m looking for your boss, Huang Biao.”

The young man examined Su Changxing, his expression changing slightly, and said, ”Huh? What do you need our boss for?”

Su Changxing thought for a moment and said, ”I’m an acquaintance, got some business.”

”Sorry, our boss went missing since last night. We’re looking for him too. Leave your number······”

Su Changxing thought for a moment and said,

”I also know his nephew, Huang Tao. Can you contact him or give me a number.”

The young man believed Su Changxing might actually be an acquaintance, nodded, and smiled: ”Sure, I’ll help you contact him. Huang Tao and I are buddies. You can sit here and wait······ Would you like something to drink?”

”Just a glass of warm water.”

Su Changxing sat down on a nearby chair.

Huang Biao disappeared?

What’s going on?

But if so, there’s a high chance Huang Biao survived in the apocalypse but got into trouble after returning.

Security Bureau is a likely possibility.

After a while, Huang Tao came over, carrying a blue sports backpack on his back.

Huang Tao looked at Su Changxing in astonishment and asked, ”You know my uncle?”

Huang Tao did not know him, having died in the apocalypse.

Looking at the familiar face in front of him, Su Changxing felt a mix of emotions; Huang Biao had tried his best to protect Huang Tao, but he ultimately died.

Su Changxing nodded, keeping his composure:

”Yes, old friends, you might say. I have some business with him. Can you help me contact him?”

Huang Tao widened his eyes and said, ”Old friends? But you’re so young······ Though he is indeed missing, not answering his phone. I’m wondering if he went to find some old flame.”

Su Changxing raised an eyebrow, slowly saying, ”I bet if Huang Biao heard that, he’d beat you up.”

Huang Tao immediately realized that Su Changxing knew Huang Biao—otherwise, he wouldn’t have such insights and seriously said:

”Just yesterday, my uncle disappeared without a trace. He hasn’t been answering his phone, and if we can’t find him, we’re planning to report it to the police.”

Su Changxing thought for a moment and said:

”If you encounter any strange issues you can’t solve, feel free to call me. And if you find Huang Biao, ask him to return my call.”

Huang Tao nodded instinctively, this person in front of him causing him to feel inexplicably suffocated.

Having said that, Su Changxing briskly got up and left, heading outside but sharply perceiving someone watching him from the shadows.

Who could it be?

Those few drunks?

As he walked out of the bar, the feeling of being watched immediately vanished.

······

”Captain, someone just came looking for Huang Biao, a young man wearing a hat,” a woman slumped over the bar mumbled quietly to herself.

”Follow him, find out who he is.”

”······”

”We lost him; we didn’t see him after we went outside.”

”You may have been discovered, retreat for now.”

”Retreat?”

”Yes, retreat for now. All the people involved are highly dangerous, prioritize safety.”

······

Su Changxing appeared in the city’s central commercial district, already in a different outfit, sitting alone on a wooden chair outside a coffee shop, silently drinking coffee while scrolling through his phone.

He was fairly certain that Huang Biao was either being held or hunted.

Ordinary People might not have much combat power in the Doomsday World, but in the real world, they can threaten Low Tier Extraordinary with firearms.

Meanwhile, not far away, in the middle of the square, a crowd gathered around a filthy, disheveled man standing on a platform, shouting something loudly.

”I’m telling you, the apocalypse is coming. I just returned from the Doomsday World.”

”Only a very small number of us returned alive; you all are dead.”

······

Most people were just bystanders, watching for entertainment, thinking this was a novel form of performance art, some kind of behavior art.

Someone laughed out loud and said, ”If we’re dead, why are we still alive? Isn’t that a contradiction?”

The man’s expression turned serious, and he said earnestly:

”It’s precisely because you’re dead that you know nothing. I’m here to warn you. I hope all those like me who returned from the apocalypse will speak up.”

The crowd responded with cheers, praising his superb acting skills, which seemed unforced and very real.

”You have to prove it somehow. You can’t just make baseless claims, right?” cried out a man in a white shirt and sunglasses with a smile.
