Naruto: Zanka No Tachi

Chapter 35: NZNT: Chapter 35

Looking at Ryujin Jakka’s gaze, sharp as a blade and filled with killing intent, Yusuke seemed to understand something.

”Could it be that way?”

Ryujin Jakka looked at Yusuke, who had suddenly understood, and nodded in relief. ”Yes.”

”It means you have to devour souls through killing!”

”It means you have to train your soul in the mental world!”

The two said in unison!

Their eyes met, and the atmosphere instantly became awkward.

Ryujin Jakka snorted coldly, ”Devouring souls through killing? That’s something a Hollow would do!”

Yusuke said sheepishly, ”It’s just that your gaze was so full of killing intent. It’s no wonder people would misunderstand.”

Ryujin Jakka looked at Yusuke and said slowly, ”The place where I was originally is called Soul Society. Shinigami all train in their soul form. Soul Society’s spiritual pressure is very dense. Shinigami can constantly strengthen their soul power by training in any way.”

”This world isn’t suitable for spirit bodies to exist. There’s no free-floating spiritual pressure in the space. Therefore, it’s difficult to train soul power through ordinary methods.”

Glancing at the giant Sharingan in the sky, Ryujin Jakka continued, ”Your mental world is actually a relatively suitable place to train your soul. Although it’s far inferior to Soul Society, it’s barely enough.”

”As long as you train here, your soul power will become stronger and stronger. I have to say that your Uchiha clan’s bloodline is truly gifted. The ability of this pair of eyes is truly extraordinary.”

”So, how do I train specifically as you said?” Yusuke asked.

”The best way is to fight!”

”Fight?”

Ryujin Jakka nodded, ”Yes, your opponent is me! Strengthen your soul and spiritual power through mental battles and training.”

”In the long run, your soul will improve in quality.”

Hearing Ryujin Jakka’s training method, Yusuke frowned, ”With my current dojutsu power, I can only stay in the mental world for an hour at most before my dojutsu power is completely depleted. It takes about a day to fully recover my dojutsu power.”

”And if I’m fighting in the mental world, my dojutsu power will probably be consumed even faster. I might not even be able to last twenty minutes.”

Ryujin Jakka looked at Yusuke and said, ”Don’t worry about that. As your soul power increases, your dojutsu power will naturally increase with it, and you’ll be able to train for longer and longer.”

”Also, when your soul becomes strong enough, your eyes will naturally evolve to the so-called ’Mangekyo Sharingan’!”

Hearing Ryujin Jakka mention the Mangekyo Sharingan, Yusuke’s heart skipped a beat. He asked Ryujin Jakka, ”But according to our clan’s records, the condition for awakening the Mangekyo Sharingan is the death of a loved one. Only then can an Uchiha’s spirit break through the limits of the ordinary Sharingan.”

After awakening the Sharingan, Yusuke had stopped looking forward to the Mangekyo Sharingan. After all, he didn’t want to exchange the misfortune of his loved ones for the ability of the Mangekyo Sharingan.

Ryujin Jakka sneered, ”That’s only because the level of soul power in this world is simply too low. Your clan members can only break through the limits of their abilities through this kind of intense mental stimulation.”

”If your soul is strong enough, you can easily upgrade your Sharingan to the next stage with Reiatsu.”

Hearing Ryujin Jakka’s analysis, Yusuke nodded, ”I understand. Everything is still based on soul power. But wouldn’t the progress be too slow if I rely on this method of training?”

Ryujin Jakka glanced at Yusuke and said calmly, ”Training isn’t something you can achieve overnight. Being hasty will only lead you astray.”

Hearing Ryujin Jakka’s words, Yusuke nodded in agreement. ”Yes. I was indeed too eager for quick results.”

After discussing the training of the soul with Ryujin Jakka, Yusuke’s training began immediately.

The training method was as simple and brutal as Ryujin Jakka had said. Yusuke and Ryujin Jakka fought with swords in the mental space.

Ryujin Jakka, as the embodiment of a Zanpakuto, was not only very skilled in swordsmanship, but his powerful Reiatsu also put great pressure on Yusuke. At this stage, Yusuke was no match for Ryujin Jakka.

Whenever he was attacked by Ryujin Jakka, Yusuke would feel a pain as if his spirit was being torn apart because he was a spiritual body. But according to Ryujin Jakka, this was also part of the process of training soul power.

The first training session didn’t last very long. With Yusuke’s current dojutsu power, he could only train for about ten minutes in a fierce battle before his dojutsu power was depleted and he was forced to exit the inner vision state.

After exiting the mental world, Yusuke immediately felt very tired. He needed to rest to recover his spiritual power and dojutsu power.

This conversation with Ryujin Jakka was very beneficial to Yusuke. It gave him some confidence to face opponents at the Six Paths level in the future.

One day later, Yusuke was about to set off for Sunagakure.

”Brother, have a safe trip!”

”Be careful on the road, Yusuke.”

Outside his home, Uchiha Izumi and Izumi were seeing Yusuke off. This mission would take at least a month to go to Sunagakure and back.

”Izumi, come here.” Yusuke beckoned to Izumi.

Izumi ran to Yusuke obediently, blinking her big eyes at him.

Yusuke crouched down and smiled, ”Brother won’t be here, so I’ll leave Mom in your care.”

”Okay, Brother. Don’t worry. Izumi is a real ninja now!” Izumi nodded firmly.

Just then, Izumi saw three golden-red, flame-like tomoe flash in her brother’s eyes.

She blinked. When she looked again, her brother’s eyes were the same as usual. There was no change.

Maybe I was just seeing things, Izumi thought to herself.

After saying goodbye to his family, Yusuke went to the agreed meeting point. When the two teams participating in the Chunin Exams were all gathered, they set off for Sunagakure together.

Initially, the places they passed through were lush with trees, mountains, and rivers. But the closer they got to Sunagakure, the hotter the temperature became. The trees became sparser, and the rivers almost disappeared.

The group traveled for about five or six days. They passed through the Land of Rivers, which was sandwiched between the Land of Fire and the Land of Wind, and arrived at the edge of a vast desert.

Although they were only on the edge, everyone could still feel the scorching heat waves coming from the desert ahead. As far as the eye could see, there was only monotonous yellow. There wasn’t even a single tree, only rolling hills of yellow sand. The air ahead seemed to be distorted because of the high temperature.

”This should be the place, right?” Yusuke unfolded a scroll and looked at it for a moment. He asked Shirayuki Hazuki, who was also a guiding Jonin, standing beside him.

Hazuki looked at the desert again and nodded, ”Yes. Let’s begin.”

Looking at the six genin, who were looking at each other in confusion, Yusuke said slowly, ”The Chunin Exams officially begin now.”

”You six must cross this desert and reach Sunagakure within three days. If Hazuki-senpai and I don’t see you in Sunagakure by this time three days from now, then you’ll be eliminated.”

Hazuki’s expression was serious, ”Don’t expect us to give you any help. This Chunin Exam is up to you to complete. If you can’t even pass the first round, then there’s no point in participating in the later rounds!”

”So, we’ll see you in three days!”

As soon as he finished speaking, Yusuke formed a hand seal in front of his chest. He and Hazuki’s bodies gradually transformed into crows flying towards the sky until they disappeared.

This Sunagakure Chunin Exam was divided into three stages. The first stage required the genin to cross the desert within a specified time and reach Sunagakure.

For this stage of the exam, Sunagakure entrusted the judgment of qualification to the guiding Jonin of each ninja village. For this exam, almost no village’s guiding Jonin would deliberately let their genin who didn’t pass continue to participate in the second and third rounds.

After all, the Chunin Exam was also very cruel. The death rate, although not comparable to war, was not low. If they couldn’t even pass the first stage of the exam, sending their genin to the later stages would just be adding more cannon fodder.

”We only have three days. Let’s set off immediately!” Anko said first, seeing that the guiding Jonin had already left.

”But we’re going to rush into this sea of sand. Won’t we get lost?” Moonlight Aoba said. As soon as he finished speaking, he coughed.

Itachi put his hand over his forehead and looked at the position of the sun in the sky. He said slowly, ”It’s noon now. We can rest for a while before setting off.”

”Sunagakure is to our west. If we follow the direction of the sun in the afternoon, we won’t be wrong.”

Hearing Itachi’s analysis, everyone nodded in agreement. Anko, like a brother, hooked her arm around Itachi’s shoulder and said, ”As expected of my teammate. You’re really smart.”

”When we come back and become Chunin, I’ll treat you to mochi. I’ll tell you, mochi must be paired with red bean soup to be delicious!”

Itachi was about to pull away Anko’s arm, but when he heard that she was going to treat him to mochi, he silently stopped moving.

The genin found a large tree on the edge of the desert and rested in the shade, eating lunch. They were all young children and quickly became friendly. Even the shy Kurenai Yūhi quickly integrated into the team, laughing and joking with everyone.

During their conversation, Itachi keenly noticed that Mizuki seemed to be intentionally approaching him. This phenomenon immediately alerted him.

Meanwhile, in the desert, Yusuke and Hazuki were running all out. As guiding Jonin, they had to arrive at Sunagakure ahead of time.

First, they needed to welcome their own genin, who had completed the first stage of the exam and arrived at Sunagakure. Second, they needed to register the candidates in Sunagakure in advance.

”How are they doing now?” Hazuki asked Yusuke, who was beside him.

Although Yusuke and Hazuki had arrived at Sunagakure first, they weren’t ignoring the genin. At this time, Yusuke had sent out a Fire Release clone, which was observing the genin from the sky from afar.

”Don’t worry. I believe they won’t be defeated by the first stage of the exam,” Yusuke said with a smile.

Hazuki nodded, ”Yes. It seems like I’m getting old. I’m actually worried about those kids.”

”By the way, Yusuke, are you sure you’re going in the right direction?”

Hearing Hazuki’s question, Yusuke looked at him strangely and said, ”I’m just following the direction you’re going, Hazuki-senpai.”

The two of them stopped and looked at each other. After silently observing the direction, they changed course and continued towards Sunagakure.

”I’m telling you, Yusuke, this is something only you and I know!” After a long silence, Hazuki spoke first.

”This matter? I have no idea what you’re talking about, Hazuki-senpai!” Yusuke said seriously.
