Naruto: Zanka No Tachi

Chapter 32: NZNT: Chapter 32

Hearing Yusuke mention the ”Trolley Problem”, Itachi shook his head, indicating he hadn’t heard of it.

(A special note here: There are trains in the Naruto world!!)

”There are five people tied to one set of train tracks. On a branch of those tracks, there’s one person tied up. A train is speeding towards the tracks, and you’re holding the lever that can change the train’s direction.”

”So, would you choose to pull the lever, sacrificing one person’s life to save the lives of five people?”

Yusuke slowly explained the famous ”Trolley Problem” from his previous life.

Although Itachi hadn’t answered yet, Yusuke had already guessed what Itachi would choose.

Itachi thought about it for a moment and then answered, ”I would pull the lever!”

Yusuke nodded and continued, ”What if there were five people, each with a problem with their heart, liver, spleen, lungs, or kidneys? They would all survive if they could get healthy organs. And then, a healthy person appears.”

”Would you choose to kill this healthy person and transplant his healthy heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys to these five people?”

Hearing Yusuke’s question, Itachi shook his head, ”No.”

As soon as he finished answering, Itachi looked at Yusuke’s seemingly amused expression. He seemed to understand something but couldn’t grasp the key point.

”Sensei, your two questions make me even more unsure of how to make a choice,” Itachi’s gaze became confused.

”Life can’t be measured simply by quantity. You don’t have the right to take another person’s life for the sake of five people!” Yusuke said slowly.

”And the conflict between the village and the clan shouldn’t be simply about the village being larger and the clan being smaller. You shouldn’t sacrifice the clan to benefit the village.”

”The clan isn’t necessarily wrong, and the village isn’t necessarily right.”

”If the village’s strategy against the Uchiha clan is wrong, should we still compromise?”

Faced with Yusuke’s questions, Itachi didn’t know how to answer. After a moment of silence, he asked back, ”But Shisui said that clanism is narrow-minded! If all the clans in Konoha are selfish and don’t consider the village, what will happen to the village?”

Hearing Itachi’s words, Yusuke sneered. ℴ

”The so-called narrow-mindedness is just Shisui’s simple measurement of value based on quantity!”

”If clanism is considered narrow-minded in the village, then isn’t village supremacy considered narrow-minded to the entire ninja world?”

”If one day, sacrificing our Konoha Village could save the other four ninja villages, would you do it?”

”I believe you’re a smart kid. You’ll figure out what we should truly protect! See clearly your position. Don’t let the people who truly care about you down!”

”I’m not asking you to choose between the village and the clan. I’m just asking you to think clearly. Don’t assume that the clan should sacrifice itself for the village just because the village is above the clan!”

Yusuke had said everything he needed to say. He patted Itachi on the shoulder and got up to leave, leaving Itachi alone to continue his intense mental struggle.

For the next few days, Yusuke didn’t see Itachi.

At this time, Yusuke’s disciples had already established a good foundation. They no longer needed Yusuke to guide them step-by-step like they did in the beginning, so they no longer trained together at a fixed time and place.

Kabuto had been cultivated by Yusuke into a scientific nerd. He was obsessed with developing and experimenting with jutsu. Izumi, who idolized her brother, had also been equipped with a katana by Yusuke. She began to train in the Uchiha-style swordsmanship.

Meanwhile, on the training grounds of the Uchiha clan, Izumi, after finishing a set of swordsmanship, asked Yusuke with anticipation, ”Brother, how’s my swordsmanship now?”

”Not bad. You’ve reached the level of a Chunin,” Yusuke nodded.

Hearing Yusuke’s words, Izumi complained, ”What? Only Chunin level?”

”You little girl. You haven’t even walked properly, and you want to fly,” Yusuke shook his head and smiled.

Just then, Itachi also arrived at the training ground and walked towards the two of them.

Looking at Itachi’s clear, determined gaze, Yusuke knew that he had figured it out.

”Sensei, I’ve thought carefully about what you said a few days ago!” Itachi looked at Yusuke and said seriously.

”So, what are you going to do next?” Yusuke asked.

”I’ll train hard and make myself strong enough to change the clan, to change the village.”

”If I don’t have that kind of talent, I’ll also do my best to protect the clan and the people I care about!”

Itachi said firmly.

As he said this, Itachi’s eyes looked at Izumi, who was standing nearby.

For the first time, Izumi was looked at by Itachi with this inexplicable gaze. She blushed and lowered her head, her cheeks flushed.

”As expected of my disciple. Itachi, I believe you can do it!” Yusuke was also very relieved at this time.

Yusuke couldn’t figure out what his disciple was thinking. Although he wanted to talk to him about the village and the clan, he hadn’t found the right opportunity.

Now that he had been able to make Itachi abandon the dangerous idea of sacrificing the clan for the village, Yusuke had let go of a worry.

He told Itachi to continue training in swordsmanship with Izumi. Then, Yusuke returned to his laboratory. This laboratory was specially requested by Yusuke and Fugaku in the clan’s headquarters. It was for Yusuke and Kabuto to use.

After Yusuke and Orochimaru had worked together to complete the ”Two-Yi Seal,” he had been considering developing the ”Reverse Two-Yi Seal,” a seal specifically designed to seal Yang Release chakra.

The Two-Yi Seal was based on Hashirama Cells, using their powerful Yang Release power to seal Yin Release power. The Reverse Two-Yi Seal, similarly, would require a material with strong Yin Release power as its foundation to seal Yang Release power.

”If Hashirama Cells represent the pinnacle of Yang Release power, then what material represents the pinnacle of Yin Release power?”

”Could it be a fragment of Madara’s soul? Where would I even get that?”

Although he had a theoretical method, Yusuke still had no clue about a material that represented the pinnacle of Yin Release power.

After conducting various experiments with Kabuto, they hadn’t found a suitable solution. Although they had developed some cursed seals, they still weren’t able to reach a level that could seal Yang Release chakra at the level of a Tailed Beast.

Two months passed. While Yusuke was busy developing cursed seals, a major event occurred in Konoha — Orochimaru defected from the village!

Because Yusuke, a friend in the academic world, was in this life to exchange ninjutsu with him, Orochimaru was much stronger than in the original story.

Not only was he not injured by the Third Hokage’s explosive tags as in the original story, but he also seriously injured Jiraiya, another Sannin, during his defection.

After Jiraiya recovered from his injuries, he left the village to find Orochimaru, ignoring the Third Hokage’s pleas to stay. He hoped to bring Orochimaru back to the village.

From this point forward, all three Sannin had left Konoha Village. The era of the Konoha Sannin had officially come to an end!

Shortly after that, Konoha’s high-ranking officials received an invitation from their ally, Sunagakure.

Hokage Tower, the Third Hokage’s office.

Yusuke and another Konoha Jonin, Shirayuki Hazuki, were standing in front of the Third Hokage’s desk, listening to the details of the upcoming mission.

”This time, Sunagakure sent a letter inviting Konoha to participate in their Chunin Exams.”

”As strategic allies, we should also send a few teams to participate in this exam. It will both maintain friendly relations between the two villages and be an opportunity to showcase the strength of our Konoha genin.”

Looking at Yusuke and Shirayuki Hazuki, the Third Hokage said slowly.

Shirayuki Hazuki was a veteran elite Jonin of Konoha Village. He had a ponytail and a scar on his right lip. He was skilled in Konoha-style swordsmanship.

He was calm, collected, and meticulous. He had excellent command abilities. He had already been active on the battlefield during the Second Great Ninja War, and he had made many contributions to Konoha Village.

”This time, Konoha has selected six elite genin to form two teams. Please serve as the guiding Jonin and lead the teams to Sunagakure to participate in this Chunin Exam.”

”Hazuki, Yusuke, you two are both top-notch Jonin. This time, you can also give these elite genin a lot of guidance and help them achieve good results in this Chunin Exam.”

After the Third Hokage finished speaking, Hazuki and Yusuke immediately agreed, saying that they would definitely not fail their mission.

The Third Hokage had originally wanted to send Yusuke and Kakashi, two young Jonin, to Sunagakure to show off their skills. At this time, when the village was at its weakest, letting other ninja villages see Konoha’s rising stars would also have a deterrent effect.

Unfortunately, Kakashi’s father, White Fang, had a significant grudge against Sunagakure, so it wasn’t suitable to send him. Therefore, the Third Hokage could only arrange for other Jonin to take Kakashi’s place.

”Third Hokage-sama, who are the genin participating in the Chunin Exam this time?” Yusuke asked the Third Hokage.

Yusuke actually already knew about this mission in advance. His disciple, Itachi, had also been selected as one of the genin participating in the Chunin Exam.

What Yusuke hadn’t expected was that he would be the guiding Jonin leading the team to Sunagakure.

The Third Hokage gave his assistant a brief instruction. The assistant quickly brought six genin from outside the office.

Yusuke glanced at them and recognized most of them. Except for a brown-haired girl that Yusuke didn’t recognize, the others were all named characters in the original story.

After the six genin entered, they all gave brief introductions. They were Moonlight Aoba, Mizuki, Izumi, Kurenai Yūhi, Anko Mitarashi, and Uchiha Itachi.

The Yūhi clan was a bloodline clan in Konoha Village that was very skilled in genjutsu. This girl must be very good at genjutsu, considering she was chosen.

What surprised Yusuke was that Mizuki, the fake, was also selected. Could it be that the butterfly effect of his time travel had improved Mizuki’s strength?

These six genin were all very young. Itachi was only seven years old, and the oldest, Mizuki, was only thirteen. At this time, all of them except for Anko seemed very excited.

Because of Orochimaru’s defection, Anko wasn’t as energetic as she had been when Yusuke had met her before. She had a gloomy expression.

After Orochimaru defected, Anko was imprisoned. After several rounds of questioning, she was confirmed to have no connection to Orochimaru and was released. But she had gone from a rising star to an ordinary genin.

Orochimaru, whom she trusted and admired most, had abandoned her and defected from Konoha alone. This had also deeply affected her, and she couldn’t get over it.

Looking at the six genin lined up in a row, the Third Hokage said slowly to Hazuki and Yusuke, ”They’re all the best ninjas selected from among the genin. You can choose freely and form two teams.”

After the Third Hokage finished speaking, he left the rest to Yusuke and Hazuki.

Hazuki looked at the six genin and said to Yusuke, ”These kids all seem to admire you. Why don’t you choose first? That way, they won’t blame me later.”

At this time, Yusuke, who was very young but already famous, was a well-known genius ninja throughout the ninja world. Except for Anko, who had been keeping her head down, the other genin looked at Yusuke with admiration, to varying degrees.

Yusuke smiled, ”Hazuki-senpai, you’re making me feel embarrassed.”

”But since you’re so humble, Senpai, then I’ll be respectful and accept your offer.”
