Beast Taming: I Can Add Points

”Is that... Su, Su Zhi??”

The sparring partner’s jaw dropped to the floor. ”It’s only been a month, and Yu Bao has already evolved? And its Real-time Energy Value is so high?? And, and...”

Yan Dingyi finished the sentence for him. ”And he’s even awakened a Tier Three Beast Taming Space. His second contracted pet is a rare Flash Gold Sparrow, and its Real-time Energy Value is also approaching One-star.”

”...” The young sparring partner hung his head.

He was a sophomore now, but there was hardly anyone in his class who would dare say they could guarantee a win against Su Zhi.

He thought back to his own college entrance exams; his Sub-Pet hadn’t even been close to One-star...

’Is this the disparity of the world?’

”Su Zhi will go very, very far. Farther than you, and farther than me.”

Yan Dingyi remarked softly, his eyes on the figure in the ring.

”It sounds outrageous... but if it’s Su Zhi, it’s actually pretty normal.”

The young sparring partner sighed, accepting the fact that Su Zhi was just that incredible.

Then he looked at the ring curiously. ”So right now, Su Zhi is commanding his Sub-Pet in a Pet Beast Battle against your fourth pet?”

In the ring, the Turbulent Duck was relentlessly attacking with all sorts of ferocious Output Skills, while Shan Bao used Flash Gold Teleportation to dodge rapidly.

The two of them had even developed a rhythmic beauty to their exchange. It was incredibly entertaining, making it hard to believe this was a match between two Pet Beasts with such a large difference in strength.

”Yes. Although it’s a battle without any suspense, the Flash Gold Sparrow is a rare Space Element mobility-type Pet Beast. It’s excellent for sparring to improve attack accuracy.”

Yan Dingyi smiled and drank his tea.

The sparring partner also sighed. ”There really is no suspense.”

The Turbulent Duck was famous for its ferocious attacks. It could even flip over a heavyweight competitor like a Blast Rock Rhinoceros, let alone a little squishy like the Flash Gold Sparrow.

The reason Shan Bao could appear evenly matched with Brother Shui was mainly because it possessed the powerful Positional Skill, Flash Gold Teleportation.

In truth, Flash Gold Teleportation had significant limitations... Thanks to the ring itself containing metal, Shan Bao didn’t need to waste time scattering its feathers. Otherwise, it probably would have been taken out at the very start.

But Flash Gold Teleportation couldn’t be used indefinitely. Once Shan Bao got tired, it would naturally be defeated.

’But if it’s one of Su Zhi’s Pet Beasts...’

The sparring partner’s mouth twitched as he glanced at Yan Dingyi beside him.

This old senior, who loved drinking tea, had specifically brought a paper cup with a sealed lid today and was sipping from it bit by bit with a straw.

’It seems that while he says there’s no suspense, his actions are quite honest.’

”Quack!”

The instant Shan Bao appeared, Brother Shui shifted the direction of the Energy Light Array and shot out a turbulent pillar of water.

Shan Bao didn’t even have a moment to catch its breath and was so frightened it immediately activated Flash Gold Teleportation to get away again.

”Quack quack quack quack quack!”

Brother Shui was very excited now.

After contracting with Yan Dingyi, he’d had some wins and losses in his Pet Beast Battles—none of those so-called ”tank” heavyweight contenders were a match for him!

The matches he’d lost were, without exception, all against mobility-type Pet Beasts.

This was also why Brother Shui wanted to spar with Shan Bao.

’If I can even hit a Space Element Flash Gold Sparrow, why would I be afraid of Leo and the Thunderbolt War Falcon!’

”QAQ! Chirp chirp chirp!”

Shan Bao was breaking out in a cold sweat from anxiety.

’So much water! So fast! I can’t take it anymore!’

’The number of times I’ve used Flash Gold Teleportation in just this short while is almost more than I’ve used it in a whole week!’

”Woof!” From the sidelines, Coach Yu reminded Shan Bao—don’t forget your own strengths!

”Shan Bao, how about we try a different approach?”

Su Zhi suggested tentatively, ”They’re clearly using you as target practice, but your greatest strength is actually your defense. Since Flash Gold Teleportation is so draining, let’s switch to a defensive strategy and wait for the enemy to tire themselves out!”

”...Chirp!”

Shan Bao nodded. After dodging one more stream of water, it stopped running around, planted itself in the center of the ring, and firmly assumed a Horse Stance, having activated Super Heavy Gold Fall.

Shan Bao: Tank Mode—engaged!

Brother Shui: ”Quack?”

Yan Dingyi: ”?”

The sparring partner: ”?”

Question marks simultaneously appeared over the heads of everyone present.

After staring blankly at each other for a good while, the sparring partner spoke in a daze, ”Looking at that stance... Shan Bao isn’t planning to tank Brother Shui’s attacks, is it?”

”It’s... understandable.”

Yan Dingyi forced a gratified smile. ”It’s a new pet, after all. It’s understandable to have a challenger’s mentality and want to take on a stronger senior!”

Inwardly, however, he quickly communicated with Brother Shui through the Beast Taming Space:

”Take it easy! Don’t you go injuring the little one!”

”Quack.”

Brother Shui flapped its wings, indicating it understood, but its eyes clearly held a competitive glint.

Although the two Beast Tamers had entered this Pet Beast Battle with the intention of keeping it light, the mindset of a Pet Beast was subtly different from that of its Beast Tamer.

In Brother Shui’s eyes, Shan Bao standing there motionlessly was, in itself, a challenge to its offensive power.

Of course, Brother Shui wouldn’t seriously injure Shan Bao, but it would use a bit of force to teach the little one a lesson—

’I am the Hao Waterfowl, famous for my Strong Attacks!’

SWOOSH!

A blue Light Array lit up beside Brother Shui, and a ferocious torrent of water immediately surged forth, striking Shan Bao hard.

One of the Water Element Strong Attack Skills, Strong Current Strangulation!

”Holy crap!” The sparring partner’s asshole clenched.

His own Sub-Pet was a Hao Waterfowl, so of course he knew just how overbearing the power of this move was.

Forget a little squishy like the Flash Gold Sparrow, even a Stone Armor Rhinoceros, famous for its Defense Power, might not be able to withstand that hit!

Yan Dingyi’s heart also skipped a beat. He hadn’t been contracted with Brother Shui for long, and the rapport between them wasn’t perfect yet.

’If Brother Shui disobeys and acts on impulse, it’ll be trouble if it injures Shan Bao!’

WHOOSH... The water dissipated.

”???”

Staring at the completely unharmed Shan Bao opposite it, Brother Shui opened its beak, several large question marks appearing above its head.

’It... just face-tanked my Strong Current Strangulation?’

’Not only was it unharmed, it didn’t even budge an inch?’

”Chirp chirp?”

Shan Bao also blinked in confusion.

’Is it over already? Why didn’t I feel anything at all?’

’This senior’s skills aren’t all that great, huh.’

”...(DAMMIT!) QUACK!”

Brother Shui’s fists hardened.

’A little ground-pecking chicken dares to say my skills are lacking?’

’You asked for this!’

”SWOOSH SWOOSH SWOOSH—”

Several Light Arrays appeared one after another as a total of seven Strong Current Strangulations advanced in unison, bombarding Shan Bao’s body.

BOOM!

This was followed by an incomparably ferocious Towering Waves, which covered half the ring like a landslide. Even those watching from afar could feel the oppressive power overflowing from the arena.

The raging currents ravaged the ring, and a glint of that same torrent flashed in Brother Shui’s eyes, making its gaze look incredibly sharp.

’That arrogant little chick’s legs must have gone soft under my fierce assault! This is what you get for mocking my power!’

Imagining Shan Bao as a weak, trembling mess, a smug smile appeared on Brother Shui’s face.

Then, the smile froze.

”Chirp!”

A few steps away, Shan Bao shook the water from its body and flapped its wings with some excitement.

’This time was better than the last, I finally felt something! It was still really weak, but it was great!’

Not far away, the sparring partner let out a breath of air, filled with admiration.

”Looks like Brother Shui knows how to hold back. It was all a big show, but he didn’t actually hurt Su Zhi’s Flash Gold Sparrow at all.

”Yeah, he even came up with the clever method of having the seven streams of water collide to cancel each other out! And that Towering Waves afterward probably didn’t even hit Shan Bao, it just hit the ring for show... Huh? Why are your hands shaking?”

Yan Dingyi forced his tea-holding hand to remain steady and maintained his smile. ”It’s nothing. I’m just happy that Brother Shui is so meticulous despite his rough exterior...”

With his superior dynamic vision, Yan Dingyi had seen everything that had just happened clearly.

Brother Shui hadn’t been putting on a show. Every single attack had clearly hit Shan Bao. It was obvious it had gotten serious, and there was even a bit of temper behind it.

And yet... Shan Bao was unharmed.

Completely unharmed!!!

”......”

Looking at Shan Bao, who was perfectly fine, and hearing its well-intentioned words of comfort, Brother Shui’s blood pressure shot through the roof.

If it could speak human language, it would be cursing on a loop right now.

’Is this a fucking Flash Gold Sparrow?’

’Are you sure this thing isn’t a texture glitch?!’

Shan Bao tilted its head. ”Chirp?”

’Um, Senior, are you done already? Was it that short?’

CRACK.

Something called ”self-respect” shattered inside Brother Shui.

”...QUACK!!!”

Furious, its anger having gone to its head, Brother Shui stomped its foot, beat its wings, and shot into the air.
