Beast Taming: I Can Add Points

On the sixth floor of the administration building, two teachers stood frozen by the window, their minds blank. They still hadn’t recovered from the scene on the field below.

After a long moment, Yan Shouzheng finally spoke, his voice stiff. ”Su Zhi’s Flash Gold Sparrow... went head-to-head with Liu Junpo’s Cyan Cloud Group and knocked it out??”

Zhou Shengfa nervously adjusted his wig. ”You couldn’t exactly call it head-to-head... It was a bit clever.”

Yan Shouzheng: ”...”

’Is there really a difference??’ he thought. ’Didn’t it still just brute-force its way to victory in the end?’

The visual shock was like watching a porcelain doll knock out a heavyweight champion.

”It seems we need to re-evaluate the Flash Gold Sparrow’s role as a Pet Beast. Su Zhi is really single-handedly warping the entire meta of the Beast Taming Realm...”

Yan Shouzheng chuckled, a bit wistfully.

”Hey, wait a second.”

Yan Shouzheng’s eyes narrowed. ”What are they... up to now?”

Down on the field—

”Chirp chirp?”

Shan Bao tucked in her feet and nestled obediently in Su Zhi’s palm, tilting her head curiously.

Liu Junpo and Su Zhi huddled together, heads close, examining her with equal curiosity.

”Not bad... She actually tanked it... I was worried Wanzi might hurt her!”

Confirming that Shan Bao wasn’t really hurt, Liu Junpo laughed heartily. ”Your little bird sure is tough!”

Su Zhi: ”I suspect that was a dirty joke, but I have no proof.”

Liu Junpo: ”Heh.”

”I don’t know how Shan Bao managed it, but her physique is truly gifted. She’s incredibly resis... tant to wear and tear. Right now, with just her base body, Shan Bao can contend with Wanzi, who has Hardening. I can’t imagine what kind of monster she’ll become once she learns Hardening herself.”

Liu Junpo nodded, giving her some rather high praise.

Su Zhi’s eyes lit up. ”So does that mean I can just keep training her along this skill path?”

”It’s not that simple.”

Liu Junpo glanced at him with a faint smile. ”I saw the first draft of your Skill System. Did you notice any problems with it?”

”Problems...” Su Zhi pulled out his phone, studying it thoughtfully for a moment.

Shan Bao’s Skill System was built around defense, mostly stacking various skills that boosted her physical fortitude, pushing that single stat to its absolute limit.

In contrast, Yu Bao’s Skill System was essentially built around Perception and control. His various Skills were all founded on his Perception and manipulation of Elements, which was also the source of his advantages.

Which means...

Realization dawned on Su Zhi. ”Her defensive measures are too one-dimensional?”

”Exactly.”

Liu Junpo nodded. ”You’re too focused on increasing Shan Bao’s physical toughness, trying to max out her defense. But you’ve overlooked one thing: there are many different kinds of attacks.”

”Yu Bao, Shan Bao once took your Furious Sand Blade and only received minor injuries, correct?”

”Woof,” Yu Bao nodded, a proud look on his face.

’My Shan Bao is amazing!’

”Now, try using Giant Fire Pillar on Shan Bao.”

”Woof.”

Yu Bao gently lifted a paw, and a red Light Array lit up beneath Shan Bao’s body.

Once Shan Bao indicated she was ready, a nearly two-meter-tall pillar of fire shot up from the red Light Array, completely engulfing her.

Giant Fire Pillar at 50%!

”...Chiiirp!”

’So hot, so hot!’

A few seconds later, Shan Bao came hopping out, bouncing unsteadily. Black smoke rose from her body, and all her feathers were charred. She looked like a little roasted chicken.

Shan Bao gave two vigorous shakes, and only then did the feathers all over her body begin to glow with Golden Light again.

Su Zhi was stunned for a moment. He hadn’t expected Shan Bao to fold so quickly; he thought she could’ve lasted a bit longer.

Yu Bao also froze for a moment. ’It’s heartbreaking to see my little sister looking so pathetic,’ he thought, ’but she has this special aroma now... It’s making my mouth water... If only there was a bit of cumin... Mmm.’

Liu Junpo was stunned the longest.

’According to my calculations, Shan Bao should have only lasted a second or two at most... How did she manage to stay in there for several seconds before coming out?’

’Were you a roasted chicken in your past life or something??’

Su Zhi waved a hand in front of Liu Junpo’s face. ”Senior?”

”Ahem.”

Liu Junpo coughed twice, forcing himself to look calm.

”You see, Shan Bao is indeed very strong in a head-on clash, but when it comes to fire attacks, her resistance is relatively... low.”

Liu Junpo said earnestly, ”There are many kinds of attacks. Besides the most common head-on clashes, there’s also high temperature, low temperature, corrosion, poison, Mental Shock... So your defensive measures need to be diversified as well.”

”I see! Shan Bao is too focused on physical defense, so her resistance to other types of attacks isn’t high... I’ve been enlightened!”

Su Zhi grabbed Liu Junpo’s hands and shook them vigorously, his eyes shining.

Liu Junpo struggled to maintain his earnest expression, nodding with a smile.

But that gentle smile was already about to crack.

’Low resistance my ass!’ he screamed internally. ’For her tier, Shan Bao’s resistance is already absurdly, ridiculously off the charts!’

”Chirp... Chirp!”

After listening to their analysis, Shan Bao drooped her head, looking dejected for a moment. Then she lifted her head again and flapped her wings, full of renewed vigor.

’I... I’ll do my best!’

”By the way, Senior Brother Piao, about that skill path...”

”Overhaul it. Show it to me when you’re done.”

Su Zhi: ”Damn.”

As expected, progress moves in a spiral. He was right back to the miserable life of battling with his skill path design.

”Alright, if there’s nothing else, head home. School starts in a couple of days. You should hurry up and enjoy what’s left of your vacation.”

Su Zhi muttered, ”You mean the part where I don’t have to go to school, so I can fully immerse myself in the pain of writing and getting rejected...”

Liu Junpo gave him a thumbs-up. ”Exactly.”

”...Goodbye, Senior.”

”See ya~!”

Back on the sixth floor of the administration building, Yan Shouzheng and Zhou Shengfa slowly retracted their gazes after Su Zhi and Liu Junpo had both left the campus.

”For the team competition after school starts, Su Zhi doesn’t need to go through the selection process. Just give him a direct pass. I’ll approve it for you.”

Yan Shouzheng thought for a moment before adding, ”Give the extra spot to another promising student. We can’t just focus on Su Zhi alone.”
