Beast Taming: I Can Add Points

In Shan Bao’s mind, being able to spar with all sorts of powerful Pet Beasts on such a beautiful stage had always been a privilege reserved for the strong.

Only powerhouses like Brother Yu Bao and Brother Xiaoyue were qualified to perform on stage.

’I can’t believe a little rookie like me is getting a chance like this!’

”Of course.”

Su Zhi smiled and explained to Shan Bao, ”This is why the Battle Hall was built. Regardless of strength, all Pet Beasts who come here are qualified to spar with one another!”

Of course, that was just the official line. Generally, the two parties in a sparring match wouldn’t have a huge power gap, or there’d be no fun in it, unless it was for some special training.

’Hall Master Yan’s Beast Taming Space was Tier Seven not long ago, and he just advanced to Tier Eight. His new Pet Beast probably isn’t too strong, right?’

And so, under Su Zhi’s probing gaze, a brilliant orange light flashed beside Yan Dingyi, and he summoned his Pet Beast—

[Pet Beast: Brother Shui (Turbulent Duck)

Attribute: Water

Race: High Level Elite Race

Real-time Energy Value: 2301]

Su Zhi: ”...”

’You call this a new Pet Beast??’

”I didn’t contract Brother Shui through the usual breeding channels. An old friend from afar gifted him to me. He was already close to One-star when I got him. So I just went ahead and helped him evolve.”

Yan Dingyi explained patiently to Su Zhi, making a gesture to show it wasn’t a big deal.

Su Zhi: ”...”

’Right. ”Not a big deal.”’

”Don’t worry, I’ll have Brother Shui pull his punches. He won’t hurt your Shan Bao.” Yan Dingyi patted the big duck beside him.

”Quack.” The Turbulent Duck named Brother Shui extended a wing and patted Shan Bao’s head.

Shan Bao held her wings behind her back and tucked her feet in, not daring to move a muscle in front of the powerhouse.

”Alright, I suppose this isn’t a bad thing.”

After a moment of thought, Su Zhi agreed.

A Beast Tamer of Hall Master Yan’s age had vast experience with Pet Beast Battles. He would surely have excellent control over the match’s intensity, so there was indeed no need for Su Zhi to worry.

On the other hand, fighting a higher-tiered opponent was highly beneficial for a Pet Beast’s growth, though it often came with great risks. A controlled battle like this was a rare opportunity.

’The main thing is, it awards a lot of stat points.’

”...Chirp!” Once she confirmed she was going to fight, Shan Bao nodded with all her might.

’I may be a rookie...’

’But I’ll still try my best to fight well!’

”You can do it!” Shao Ya gave the Shimmering Free-Range Chicken a thumbs-up.

”Woof woof.”

Yu Bao also reached out a paw to pat Shan Bao, then leaned his head close to hers and pointed toward Xiaoyue, who was lying not far away.

’Don’t worry, Big Brother will tell you a secret ritual to become stronger:’

’Just get Big Brother Xiaoyue to pat you, and you’ll be a hundred times more spirited and incredibly brave in the coming battle. I’ve tested it myself, it works! A Su Zhi pet doesn’t lie to another Su Zhi pet.’

With that, Yu Bao bounded over to Xiaoyue, all Bling Bling, to give Shan Bao a demonstration.

Xiaoyue didn’t move.

So Yu Bao rubbed himself against Xiaoyue’s paw.

”Woof!”

’See! Don’t you feel like I’ve gotten stronger!’

”Chirp...”

Shan Bao’s eyes lit up.

’No wonder Brother Yu Bao is so strong. It’s thanks to the secret ritual!’

So Shan Bao hopped over to Xiaoyue, stuck out her head, and waited for a pat.

Xiaoyue: ”...”

”Chirp?” Shan Bao looked nervously at Yu Bao.

’Why hasn’t Brother Xiaoyue patted me yet? Did I do something wrong? Does he dislike me?’

”Woof.”

Yu Bao told Shan Bao not to panic, that Big Brother Xiaoyue was super gentle.

Shan Bao nodded and continued to stick out her head expectantly.

Xiaoyue: ”...”

After a few seconds of this standoff, Xiaoyue sighed, seeing he had no other choice.

’That dumb puppy might be a pain, but Shan Bao hasn’t done anything wrong. I don’t want to hurt the little one’s innocent heart.’

”Meow~”

So Xiaoyue reluctantly extended his paw and patted Shan Bao’s head.

’Not bad, not bad. Keep it up.’

”Pfft...” Shao Ya covered her mouth, trying to hold back her laughter.

Su Zhi couldn’t help but smile as he watched the two big guys and the one little one.

’Well... to be precise, it was one big guy and two little ones.’

Over on his side, Yan Dingyi had reset the stage. ”Shall we begin?”

”Okay!” Su Zhi nodded and led Shan Bao onto the stage.

”Go Su Baby, go Shan Bao! I’m going to buy some water!” Shao Ya waved and ran out of the Battle Hall.

However, Yan Dingyi didn’t step into the commander’s position. Instead, after Brother Shui got on stage, he stepped down.

”This was Brother Shui’s request.”

Yan Dingyi explained to Su Zhi with a smile, ”He feels he’s a fair bit stronger than Shan Bao, so forgoing a commander will make the fight a little more balanced.”

”In that case, thanks to the master for going easy on us.”

Su Zhi gave a light smile and then gave Shan Bao a thumbs-up.

”Don’t panic! Trust your own fighting style and play to your strengths. I’ll command you when necessary.”

”Chirp!” Shan Bao nodded with all her might and stood at attention.

’She was panicking before, but not anymore.’

’She now had Brother Yu Bao’s encouragement, Brother Xiaoyue’s pat, and Su Zhi as her strongest backup!’

’Win or lose, I’m going to fight this match with everything I have!’

”DING!”

The match light turned from blue to green.

The Pet Beast Battle began!

”QUACK!”

The big duck was the first to let out a mighty roar as a monstrous wave of water surged toward Shan Bao...

「At the front desk.」

The trainer had just finished putting on his uniform when he saw Yan Dingyi drinking tea. He hurriedly greeted him, ”Hall Master Yan! You’re here today too?”

”Yeah, just came to take a look. You’re here so early today. You probably don’t have any classes, right?”

”It’s summer vacation, Uncle.”

”Oh, right! My memory’s failing me.”

After exchanging a few pleasantries, the trainer quickly noticed the duo of Su Zhi and Shan Bao on the stage, battling Brother Shui.

Yu Bao circled the stage, sometimes running, sometimes stopping, muttering self-importantly. Anyone who didn’t know better would have thought he was the referee.
