You Were Told to Design Software, But You Created Tiktok?!

264: Section 264At the same time, internally at Penguin, after giving up the group buying function, the number of users that Penguin Group Buying had gained in the Lower-Tier Market also began to plummet.

Previously, because Meituan Select existed, Penguin Group Buying had already found itself in a difficult position in the Lower-Tier Market.

However, by relying on various large-scale discount activities, Penguin Group Buying still attracted many Lower-Tier Market users.

Penguin’s internal team didn’t know that Meituan Select would succeed, so they thought that these attracted users would all become loyal customers.

But the current situation is that after their activities in the Lower-Tier Market ended, a large number of group buying users returned to Meituan’s embrace.

The situation was just as Xiao Ma had said.

In the group buying sector, they had failed.

Therefore, transferring to the takeout sector was the best choice for Penguin Group Buying at the moment.

As Penguin Group Buying officially entered the takeout sector on a large scale, the landscape of the Thousand Group Battle changed again.

Under the attention of countless people, time quickly came a month later.

Chapter 189: Baidu Takeout’s Update, Meituan’s Final Piece of the Puzzle!

As time passed, when Penguin Group Buying decided to make a move in the takeout sector, their market share in the group buying sector was continuously eroded by Meituan.

The group buying share that Penguin Group Buying originally held in first and second-tier cities was also surpassed by Meituan within this month.

However, due to the successful transformation of Penguin Group Buying, the number of daily active users of Penguin Group Buying remained largely unchanged from before, not decreasing much.

It’s just that most of Penguin Group Buying’s current users are now from the takeout group.

Within this month, Penguin Group Buying’s market share in the takeout sector has approached Ele.me, ranking second in the takeout sector, with not much difference between the two.

As for Baidu Takeout, it has fallen to third place.

Meituan Takeaway, which has not yet exerted its strength in the takeout sector, is ranked after Baidu Takeout.

Just when many internet users outside were looking forward to Meituan officially entering the takeout sector on a large scale, Baidu Takeout, in order to solidify its position in the first-tier echelon, launched a huge update a month after Penguin Group Buying’s transformation.

And the key to this update was offline!

On that day, Baidu Takeout announced that it would launch Baidu Canteen!

In the office building parks of major cities, Baidu Takeout established its own offline canteen, and this canteen only delivered to online users and was not open to the public.

Only by finding the canteen interface in the Baidu Takeout software and placing an order could one eat the delivered canteen takeout.

Moreover, after placing an order online, the chef would only then start cooking.

This was equivalent to an exclusive restaurant opened online.

In Baidu’s view, the launch of this function would reverse their third-place position in the takeout sector in one fell swoop.

At the very least, it could surpass Penguin and even catch up with Ele.me.

The other takeout software, upon seeing Baidu Takeout’s actions, also became somewhat flustered.

Because this offline canteen, from all aspects, had a huge possibility of success, perhaps Baidu Takeout would truly establish itself in the takeout market because of it.

After all, after this month, the main battlefield has almost transformed into the takeout sector.

At the same time, the day after Baidu Takeout announced the launch of Baidu Canteen, inside Junzi Group, in Wang Mo’s office.

”Boss, are we really not making a move in the takeout sector yet?”

”You said before that the takeout market can only accommodate two large takeout software.”

”And now, Ali Penguin and Baidu have already occupied the top three, and we are only in fourth place.”

”If this continues, I’m afraid it will become increasingly difficult for us to achieve success in the takeout sector as well.”

After learning about Baidu Takeout’s actions, Zhang Fan was a bit flustered.

Listening to Zhang Fan’s words, Wang Mo shook his head.

”You don’t need to worry, I have everything prepared.”

”Currently, Meituan’s group buying share in first and second-tier cities has only just surpassed Penguin Group Buying, and it hasn’t gained too much of a lead yet.”

”Once Meituan fully takes the lead in the group buying sector, I will make a move on takeout.”

Hearing this, Zhao Ming, who was beside him, couldn’t help but speak up.

”But boss, with the canteen function launched by Baidu Takeout now, I’m afraid other takeout software will copy it then.”

”Since we are not in a hurry to fully advance in the takeout sector now, do we need to prepare for an online canteen in advance as well?”

In Zhao Ming’s opinion, the launch of Baidu Canteen indeed had a high possibility of allowing Baidu to gain a lead in the takeout sector.

Then, if Meituan also wanted to establish itself in the takeout sector, it would need to launch a similar function.

Listening to Zhao Ming’s words, Wang Mo directly shook his head.

”No need.”

”Meituan’s takeout sector will not launch a similar takeout canteen.”

”This function actually has a very high probability of failure.”

Wang Mo remembered very clearly that the reason why Baidu Takeout in his previous life eventually collapsed and was acquired by Ele.me was largely due to the launch of Baidu Canteen.

This Baidu Canteen, for which Baidu invested a lot of money, ultimately had very few users.

This eventually led to huge losses for Baidu Takeout, making it impossible to continue operating.

This Baidu Canteen’s model was too heavy; no other merchants were willing to join, and Baidu could only find chefs themselves, which greatly limited the richness of the dishes.

Coupled with the fact that the prices were also much more expensive than ordinary takeout, this led to the final huge losses.

He certainly wouldn’t let Meituan repeat the same mistakes.

As for whether other takeout software would really copy it, it would depend on their luck; perhaps they would directly fail because they copied this function.

Listening to Wang Mo’s words, Zhang Fan and Zhao Ming both nodded and said nothing more.

And Wang Mo looked at them again.

”How are the things I asked you to do before coming along?”

Facing Wang Mo’s inquiry, the two exchanged glances.

Then Zhao Ming spoke first.

”I have already investigated the current situation of Dianping as you instructed.”

”Dianping is currently one of the few Thousand Group Battle software with the most users besides us, Penguin Ali, and Baidu; its daily active users have already exceeded fifteen million.”
