The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 251: Chapter 129: This Time It’s a Swindler (Part 2)

”It shouldn’t be!”

He Tiantian had already realized that the system was becoming more and more direct.

Thinking back to the last fiction world, with tasks so detailed that they were almost listed one by one, He Tiantian knew—

The system was determined to make her overstep bounds, to oppose the protagonist and then become a ’Tool Man’ as per the script’s requirements, upping her rank to the villain.

This time, if nothing unexpected happened, He Tiantian would still receive the antagonist’s script.

And to ensure she played the villain, the system would provide comprehensive, direct tasks, leaving no room for He Tiantian to exploit loopholes or to play word games.

”Brother Qingfeng, why have you come back?”

As He Tiantian was mulling over this, the woman’s voice rang out next to her again.

Different from the low, hoarse tone she used when putting on airs and playing tricks on the old lady, now she sounded more like a young, ordinary woman.

In front of her own husband, she was even more tender and concerned.

”Isn’t there a temple festival on the mountain? I saw a stall selling rice cakes. Our Tiantian loves to eat them, so I bought some. Is our daughter up yet? Let her have a few bites while they’re hot!”

He Qingfeng said smilingly, his skin fair in his around-thirty years of age, long hair tied up in a bun, and the Taoist robe he wore gave him a somewhat handsome and otherworldly aura.

”Tiantian hasn’t woken up yet, sigh, she’s been listless these past few days, lacking energy. I was just thinking, if it really comes down to it, we could go to Capital City to have her checked out!”

Upon mentioning her daughter, Su Min, also in a Taoist robe, reined in her smile, her eyes filled with worry and heartache.

”...Okay! We’ve been saving up for months now, and we’ve got thirty thousand yuan in hand. Let’s go to Capital City, there are good hospitals there, and I can pull some strings to find a good doctor, to thoroughly check our Tiantian!”

He Qingfeng had no objections.

Tiantian was the apple of their eye. Unfortunately, she’d been frail since childhood. He and his wife would go to such lengths to earn money, all for her.

Medical fees, tuition, and even putting aside money to buy her a house when she grew up—all these needed to be saved in advance.

Not being able to give their child a healthy body, the couple had long felt that they were failing her.

In every other way, they mustn’t let her down.

”Right, do a good job pulling those strings. I remember last year there were some pilgrims from Capital City, and that old lady was particularly convinced by you. She even bought the peace charm you drew, and that old lady seemed quite well-off, probably somebody important!”

Su Min thought back carefully and indeed recalled some potential ”connections”.

”Mhm, I remember that old lady, I’ve got her on WeChat. She’s a retired worker, and her son-in-law seems to be a doctor!”

While speaking, He Qingfeng fetched a cell phone from his Taoist robe.

He tapped and swiped through his contacts, finding the old lady’s WeChat account and pointing out a photo in her Moments, saying, ”Look, seems like he’s a doctor at Union Medical College Hospital!”

”Oh my, Union Medical College Hospital is top-notch! Get in touch with that old lady quickly, so we can take our girl to Capital City for treatment soon!”

Su Min urged him on, wishing her husband could settle the matter immediately.

Su Min ached for her daughter. To He Qingfeng, his daughter was even dearer than his own heart. He didn’t need any urging from his wife and already messaged the old lady on WeChat.

Of course, as a Swindler, He Qingfeng wouldn’t say he was asking for a favor. He took the matter very seriously, telling the old lady, ”Elder, this poor Taoist is Qingfeng, the temple master of Nanshan Guiyuan Temple in B City, A Province.”

”Recently, I’ve discovered that the Everlasting Lamp you dedicated in our temple is not quite right, and upon casually calculating, it seems, Elder, that something’s not quite smooth in your household?”

His inquiry was rather sly.

This was a common trick used by swindlers.

Because for ordinary folks eking out a living in the world, even those without sickness or disaster wouldn’t dare to claim everything was perfect.

There’s always a couple of bothersome matters—maybe not significant but enough to make one uneasy.

Especially for old people like her who were somewhat superstitious, any small stir at home would make her overthink it.

It might merely be a small, coincidental incident in daily life, but she could conjure up a whole host of karmic retributions in her mind.

Perhaps she herself might not have sensed any issues yet, but with some Swindler’s rambling and far-fetched connections, she begins to think that, indeed, something has gone wrong.

And just like that, with a simple voice message, the old lady on the other end of the phone felt a sudden lurch, as if she had realized something.
