The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 281: Chapter 139: This Time It’s a Swindler (Part 12)

On the plane, He Qingfeng and Su Min wanted the best for their daughter Tiantian, so they clenched their teeth and booked business class seats.

In order not to burden her spirits, He Qingfeng even pretended to be proud, saying, ”We owe it to Tiantian this time—if she hadn’t ’calculated’ that the young lady’s dog was killed by her jerk ex-boyfriend, our Taoist Temple wouldn’t have received such recognition from the other pilgrims!”

Without that shopping craze, there wouldn’t have been such wild spending the next day.

And without that opportunity, this cunning merchant He Qingfeng wouldn’t have had the chance to hike the prices and make a hefty profit.

”Sold twenty premium talismans, and a good forty to fifty ordinary ones, tsk tsk, all adding up to a neat sum of over ten thousand yuan.”

That was just one day’s earnings, which could match the temple’s profits for an entire month.

Easy money made spending it less painful for He Qingfeng.

The family of three cheerfully settled into the business class, enjoying the spacious seating and attentive, thorough service, which made them feel even more comfortable.

”Fellow Daoist, you’re also invited to Capital City, aren’t you?”

There were other passengers in business class, including an elderly man in his sixties or seventies with white hair and beard, but a ruddy, youthful face.

He noticed that although He Qingfeng wasn’t wearing any particular attire, he sported a Taoist hair bun and carried himself with a refined demeanor, so a glint of speculation flashed in his eyes.

Following the principle of ”the more friends, the broader the path,” the outgoing older cultivator, who enjoyed making friends, took the initiative to ask.

...He Qingfeng was momentarily taken aback, but quickly he extracted the key points from the elder’s words.

First, invited.

He Qingfeng felt that the venerable looking elderly man might have misunderstood.

He took him for a ”peer in the craft,” mistakenly thinking they were both invited by someone.

Second, fellow Daoist.

He Qingfeng wasn’t dressed in a way that obviously signified his status—nothing but somewhat too-long hair.

But in this era of individuality, men don’t just grow long hair or wear topknots—some even walk the streets in skirts and lipstick, and a passerby would at most give a second glance, without mocking.

He Qingfeng’s appearance shouldn’t have been too unique.

Yet, the elder still addressed him as ”fellow Daoist,” which clearly showed that this white-haired man must be a member of the Mystical Sect.

He truly considered He Qingfeng one of his ”own kind.”

He Qingfeng felt nervous inside, but his expression remained calm as he nodded slightly and said in an understated tone, ”Indeed, I have been invited to Capital City.”

He wasn’t lying—after all, the old lady in Capital City did invite him there and even gave him ten thousand yuan for travel expenses.

However, He Qingfeng also understood that this way of speaking would continue to let the other party misinterpret and further affirm that they were indeed fellow professionals.

”Haha, indeed fellow professionals. What a twist of fate! This humble one is Su Qing, from the Mayi Lineage, with a little skill in Face Reading,” Su Qing said modestly.

Anyone who really mingles in the mysticism circles would have likely heard of his great reputation.

No-straw predictions, decisive in managing yin and yang, those were all trademarks of the Old Master Su.

He Qingfeng was merely a charlatan trotting around the Itinerant World, completely ignorant about mysticism; he had never even heard of Master Su Qing.

But he was quick-witted.

Just by seeing Su Qing’s reserved manner and listening to his tone, He Qingfeng knew that this man must be a significant figure with some background.

Although not absolutely certain, He Qingfeng felt assured inside: truly capable people are usually humble, while those who are clueless boast aimlessly.

Mayi Lineage?

A little skill in Face Reading?

So he’s a fortune-telling, face-reading swindler?

Oh no, judging by his confident and composed demeanor, he must either genuinely possess some expertise or be an even greater scam artist than He Qingfeng himself.

Regardless of which it was, Su Qing deserved a few more moments of He Qingfeng’s attention.

”Oh my, it turns out to be Master Su! I’ve been looking forward to meeting you!”

He Qingfeng purposely made an impressed gesture as if meeting a ”True God” for the first time, slightly bowing and giving Su Qing a traditional Taoist salute, ”I am Qingfeng, the temple master of Nanshan Guiyuan Temple!”

”Have you heard of my grandfather’s name?”

Before Su Qing could respond, a young man sitting next to him spoke up arrogantly, ”And what’s this Guiyuan Temple? Some backwater Taoist temple? Never heard of it!”

”Wenbo! You must not be rude!”

Su Qing rebuked him coldly, with a look toward his beloved grandson that carried a hint of helplessness.
