The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 290: Chapter 142: This Time It’s a Swindler (Part 15)

”Mum, I can help book a specialist appointment, that’s not a problem, but, but—”

Old Lady Zhang’s son-in-law was somewhat at a loss for words.

He was a surgeon, and back in his medical school days, he dissected countless mice.

He had also been taught by senior cadaver teachers, and there were more than one or two deceased patients whom he’d handled but failed to resuscitate.

Therefore, he didn’t believe in ghosts and gods at all.

His mother-in-law was good in every aspect, except that she was overly superstitious.

If the old lady lit an Everlasting Lamp at the Taoist Temple or asked for a peace charm, one could say it was a form of belief, a kind of psychological comfort.

But, to listen to a swindler speak of ghosts possessing the body and being tainted with yin energy, that was a bit troublesome.

The doctor certainly didn’t want his mother-in-law to be deceived by swindlers into superstition, losing some money was the least of it, he feared that her superstition would escalate and eventually lead to a disaster.

”Ah, I know what you want to say. Xiao Liang, let me tell you, Master He is a member of the Taoist Association and has a state-issued ID that proves it, he’s an expert.”

Old Lady Zhang was somewhat superstitious to begin with and had ”personally” witnessed He Qingfeng’s miracles, and had long regarded him as a true Enlightened Master.

She knew her son-in-law didn’t believe in these things, but when it came to this sort of matter, you might not believe, but you couldn’t deny it.

Old Lady Zhang, fearing that her son-in-law would utter something offensive to the spirits, hastily cut him off, promoting True Master Qingfeng fervently, ”Little Yuan himself said that after he went to that haunted house, he always felt a chill on his body!”

”But ever since he wore the peace charm gifted by Master He, that eerie feeling is gone. He feels really comfortable and doesn’t even have nightmares anymore!”

”Alright, alright, I know you don’t believe in this, just think of it as Little Yuan having received a psychological suggestion, which made him mistakenly believe he’s no longer haunted.”

”...No matter the reason, now Little Yuan is eating well, sleeping soundly, and isn’t having any accidents when he goes out, that’s a good thing, right?”

And just a single peace charm from Master He had such an effect; he had been of help to the Zhang Family.

Hearing this, the Zhang Family’s son-in-law felt there was some reason in her words.

Indeed, psychological suggestion was a way of treating illness.

If you considered it from this angle, Master He wasn’t the kind of swindler who would deceive people for financial gain.

Well then, as long as the old lady hadn’t completely fallen for superstition, it wasn’t such a big problem.

What the doctor was afraid of was that his mother-in-law would try to give him a peace charm, and if that were to happen, he would indeed be at a loss whether to laugh or cry.

Old Lady Zhang: ...

She sneakily retracted her hand, not looking at her son-in-law’s white coat.

Well then, her son-in-law didn’t believe in these things, but Master He had said that although the yin energy Little Yuan had been contaminated with wasn’t severe, it could still affect the family members to some extent.

Her son and daughter-in-law were okay, both were abroad, and the yin energy had little effect on them.

But it was hard to say for her daughter and son-in-law, who had frequently come back for meals over the past month, and eating at the same table would inevitably—

The more Old Lady Zhang thought about it, the more she worried, so she spent money to ask Master Zhang for three premium peace charms, just a few thousand yuan, to buy some peace of mind.

Her daughter and granddaughter were fine, they didn’t reject the peace charms the old lady brought.

It was the doctor son-in-law who was somewhat resistant. The old lady hadn’t even mentioned the peace charms, just mentioning how Master Zhang helped Little Yuan drive away yin energy, and the son-in-law already suspected he was a swindler.

Sigh, better not tell him, and just secretly slip the peace charm into one of his coat pockets, as long as it kept him safe, that was good enough!

After casually chatting with his mother-in-law, the doctor went to arrange the specialist appointment for her.

After much persuasion and calling in favors, he finally succeeded.

Arriving at the rest area, wanting to drink some water and catch his breath, he reached into his pocket out of habit and pulled out an exquisitely made small brocade bag.

This, this—

The doctor seemed to guess what it was, the corner of his mouth twitching.

He untied the drawstring and, sure enough, pulled out a folded talisman!

”...this old lady!”

The doctor shook his head helplessly, thinking to throw the peace charm into the trash can.

But on second thought, he put the talisman back into the brocade bag, ”After all, it’s the old person’s good intentions, I’ll just wear it for now.”

The doctor put the small brocade bag back into his white coat pocket, took a sip of water, then called his mother-in-law, ”Mum, I’ve sorted everything out, at 2 p.m., you can have someone bring the kid to pediatrics.”

”Ah, alright, alright!” Old Lady Zhang was chatting with He Qingfeng and his family in the hospital lobby, and upon receiving the phone call, she was overjoyed.
