The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 278: Chapter 138: This Time It’s a Swindler (Part 11)

The next morning, as the early-shift Taoist priest was just opening the grand doors of Guiyuan Temple, he was utterly stunned by the scene before him—

Holy crap!

How could there be so many people?

And these people were absolutely rabid, hollering as soon as they saw him—

”I want the first Taoist talisman of the day!”

”I want a peace charm!”

”I want a Luck-Boosting Talisman!”

”A Love Charm! I need a Love Charm, ugh, I’ve been single for five hundred years, and I’ve finally found a way to change that—”

Taoist priest: ...Are Master He’s talismans really that powerful? How come I didn’t know about this?

Could these people be shills hired by the temple master?

The Taoist priest had been working at Guiyuan Temple for some time now, and he had come to understand a bit about his ”boss.”

Guiyuan Temple was indeed a legitimate Taoist Temple with a legacy of over a thousand years, originally famous for its talismans.

But, but Master He Qingfeng was basically a hack.

Not that this Taoist priest knew how to perform magic himself, but one doesn’t have to eat pork to see it being carved up.

Before he joined Guiyuan Temple, he had drifted through the Itinerant World for more than ten years.

Having traveled widely, he had seen his share of Miracle Men and strange occurrences.

Therefore, the Taoist priest knew the true miraculous effects of genuine talismans.

He couldn’t sense any fluctuations of Spiritual Power, but he had a weird feeling.

He simply believed that the talismans Master He produced were hardly different from printed materials.

They had the form but none of the Spiritual Movement.

Such talismans being effective would be odd!

And considering the price of the talismans, tsk tsk, their temple master was no blunt novice but sly to the core.

Master He would definitely not mistake pearls for cabbage in pricing.

His talismans ranged from 50 to 100 yuan, which clearly indicated that’s all they were worth, maybe even less!

To put it bluntly, Master He was nothing but a swindler posing as a Taoist priest, and the talismans from Guiyuan Temple were just for show.

During his time at Guiyuan Temple, the Taoist priest had personally seen Master He hoodwink people.

Er, although he had guessed that the temple master might be a charlatan, truth be told, the first time he witnessed such antics, it was quite a shock—wasn’t it disillusioning?!

So, seeing so many ”eager buyers” suddenly rush towards the temple, the on-duty Taoist priest’s first thought wasn’t that the talismans of Guiyuan Temple were genuinely effective, but that the temple master had stirred up some new mischief.

Hiring shills with money was hardly a tough task for the cunning Master He.

But then, another problem arose.

It was only the fifteenth yesterday, the main day of the temple fair; if Master He wanted a performance, it should have been yesterday.

Although there would still be some visitors coming up the mountain today, the number couldn’t compare to yesterday.

Cunning as Master He was, he, he wouldn’t make such a foolish mistake.

The Taoist priest was somewhat flustered.

He was blocking the tourists rushing towards the Taoist Temple with one hand and frantically using his other hand to call He Qingfeng.

”What? That’s happening?”

He Qingfeng, hearing the report, was also puzzled.

But, as an astute businessman, he might be perplexed, but he couldn’t miss the opportunity.

No matter why those tourists had come to buy talismans, if they had come, they were his money—oh no, his gods.

He stuffed a tea egg into his mouth in a few bites, drank all the soy milk from the bowl, wiped his mouth, and said to Su Min, ”I’m heading to the mountain first, book the tickets!”

”Go ahead!” Seeing He Qingfeng rush, Su Min knew something was up in the temple.

She didn’t ask further but simply replied to He Qingfeng.

”Dad, I’m coming too!”

He Qingfeng didn’t know what happened; He Tiantian, who had been woken by several old ghosts at dawn, was well aware.

Her clothing pockets were stuffed with several peace charms and Evil Exorcism Talismans, whose brushwork she recognized as her father’s.

The old ghosts also boastfully shared their ”feats.”

He Tiantian was somewhat speechless but felt it was quite good in a way.

At least, the talismans from their family were actually helping those who paid for them.

Just... the pricing was a bit low!

Though it didn’t take much effort for her to refine the Yin Evil Pill, these talismans that could truly ensure safety and ward off evil spirits were undervalued at 50,100 yuan.

Of course, these talismans would only work near Nanshan.

After all, He Tiantian, the ”Immortal Doctor” capable of treating ghosts, hadn’t yet made her name well-known on a large scale.

Ghosts from other places couldn’t be as cunning as the old ghosts of Nanshan, who thought to curry favor with He Qingfeng and Su Min for He Tiantian.
