Twin Treasures: The CEO Wife's 99-Day of Revelations

Chapter 956: Chapter 956: Departing with Regret

When Claudia called Finn Morgan, Zachary Merce didn’t stop her because he felt sorry for his daughter too.

His daughter was on the brink of death, and the doctors predicted she wouldn’t make it through the night. Why bother with saving face?

Letting Finn come to see her one last time was the least they could do as parents to fulfill their daughter’s final wish.

At night, in a bedroom of the Morgan family villa, Finn was comforting Hailey when his phone suddenly rang.

He picked it up and glanced at the caller ID, ”...” He knew who it was and instinctively rejected the call.

Then he set his phone to silent and put it back on the nightstand.

”Why aren’t you picking up?” Hailey asked him, ”What if it’s something important?”

He casually replied, ”It’s a wrong number.”

”Hailey.” Finn took hold of her shoulders, his gaze resting on her face, ”I know you’re worried about your dad, but he’s been the mayor for so many years, and with CEO Kingston involved, he won’t suffer any injustice in the detention center.”

But at that moment, Hailey wasn’t worried about her father; she was concerned about her marriage.

She thought if they hadn’t gotten married so quickly, he wouldn’t have to be so exhausted, accompanying her everywhere, staying in the hospital for so many days, and completely neglecting his work.

”Okay, come on, let me sleep with you.” Finn gently helped her lie down, saying with concern, ”You haven’t had a good night’s sleep in a while.”

Lying in his embrace, leaning against his chest, listening to his heartbeat, Hailey couldn’t fall asleep for a long time, and her thoughts became increasingly clear.

What were the elders of the Morgan family really thinking?

With Finn’s phone on silent, Claudia made three calls in a row, but no one answered.

In the hospital room, Zachary Merce watched this scene, his expression terrifyingly grim, anger welling up—

”Cindy is kind-hearted, rushing them to marry quickly, yet he won’t even come to see her! And he lied about coming! Deceiver! Making Cindy wait every day!”

Zachary gritted his teeth, ”If it weren’t for Cindy, and with Nathan Garcia’s incident, they could forget about getting married in this lifetime! Truly ungrateful!”

”Lower your voice.” Claudia gripped the phone, anxious and pained, ”Don’t think Cindy can’t hear you.”

They say deceased people still have hearing, and their auditory nerves can continue for several hours.

”Finn...” At this moment, Melissa was clinging to her last breath.

She felt as if her soul was floating toward the Bridge of Helplessness, with no one else around. Although her legs were uncontrollable, her eyes continued to search everywhere, ”Finn... where are you?”

”Finn...”

Unable to reach Finn by phone, Claudia knelt down by the hospital bed, ”I’m sorry, my darling...” She reluctantly held her daughter’s hands.

Her daughter’s hands were gradually losing warmth. She lay straight, too weak to do more than open her mouth for gentle breaths...

Gradually, even the constant calling of the name Finn became inaudible.

For the Mercer family, it was an incredibly trying night.

As the moon set and the sun rose, a new day arrived. Melissa lay covered with a white sheet, as the doctors and nurses bowed deeply. She would never see another sunrise...

At the Morgan family villa.

Ever since having that dream, Hailey Hale hadn’t slept well and got up with Finn Morgan to go downstairs.

Seeing Everett Morgan, ”Good morning, Dad.” She greeted as usual.

”Good morning, breakfast is ready.” Everett Morgan said to her warmly, ”Jocelyn is back too, waiting for you in the dining room.”

”Okay, okay.” She nodded, saying little, not knowing what her father-in-law really thought.

Finn wrapped his arm around her shoulders, leading her to the dining room, completely unable to understand the pressure in her heart.
