Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 528: Chapter 61: Digital Life

What is the difference between Digital Life and AI?

The answer is, not much difference, at least on the surface, there isn’t much difference.

But in essence, the difference is actually very large.

Digital Life involves uploading humans to the root server, the cloud drive, achieving human ’immortality’.

AI, on the other hand, is creating a new form of ’life’, coming from entirely different origins.

Ironically, however, with evolution, AI is becoming more and more personified, while humans themselves are becoming less and less human.

In reality, amidst sparkling lights, a large amount of digital data rises from the silver-white floor, eventually transforming into Gao Gong.

This was Gao Gong’s appearance in reality, not the Rich Lady Love Prototype.

Gao Gong looked down at his palm, clearly able to see pulsating green numbers on its surface.

Switch panel——

Name: Gao Gong

Race: 41st Generation Evolved Digital Life

Note: Compared to AI, the life form of Digital Life might be more suitable for the informatization of carbon-based species, after all, it doesn’t require reinstalling a processing system.

”So amazing!”

On the other side, Dida appeared at some unknown time, looking at herself in astonishment, compared to Gao Gong, the numbers on her body were more obvious, looking like a human-form number conglomerate.

Gao Gong glanced at her, identified her level, 15th Generation Native Digital Life.

An Intermediate AI is equivalent to a 15th iteration of Digital Life, so his current state is roughly equivalent to a normal Advanced AI.

Ordinary organisms naturally couldn’t reach this level, but with the support of a ’Tier 1 Biological Computer’, the computational power is enhanced to the level of an Advanced AI.

”So amazing!”

Dida, as a player, was entering this game’s real-world for the first time... yet in such a manner.

She curiously surveyed her surroundings, visible digital signals flickered like neon lights, data columns floated on the ground, distant seawater, the overcast sky, and even the dazzling colors of radiation energy beneath the sea.

”Is this... the real world?”

”Don’t just stand there, let’s go.”

”If I return to reality as an AI, will it be the same situation?”

”No, if it’s a normal ’body possession’, you would be no different from an ordinary person, not like now, in an initial stage of information state.”

”Initial stage of information state?” Dida repeated, half understanding.

”Alright, since you’ve entered the Digital Life mode, movement becomes much easier, as long as there’s hardware, you can directly upload. Let me see which continent’s hardware is public——”

Unsure of how Gao Gong did it, many data columns floated from the ground, then transformed into a strange white door. It was strange because the patterns on the door gave ’Dida’ a sense of déjà vu.

And when Gao Gong turned the doorknob and pushed the door open, a burst of white light enveloped them, and when Dida came to her senses, they had arrived in a digital city.

Data-flowing highways, interaction avenues, signal-converting subways, cold towering firewalls, and various strange digital human forms, flickering like lights, often disappearing in the blink of an eye.

”Don’t bother looking, the speed of electrical signal transmission is light-speed, no matter how good your eyesight is, you can’t beat light.”

At this moment, Gao Gong was standing in front of a road sign, the numbers on the sign gleamed 18-4.

”Digital City 18-4, according to the real-world distance, we crossed about 2000 kilometers,” Gao Gong turned back, looking at Dida, ”You better not block others’ way.”

Dida came to, realizing she was now standing at a subway entrance, behind her was a long staircase, continuously appearing flickering digital human forms, each flash disappearing or appearing in huge scanning machines, being absorbed away, or on a data-stream bus, leaping between grids.

Dida’s gaze landed on a peculiar digital human form.

On this Digital Life’s surface, numbers fell like raindrops, differing from binary 0s and 1s, not even ternary 0, 1, 2, but ranging from 0~9, even some symbols Dida had never seen before, collapsing into nothing.

And other digital human forms sprang up like hungry wolves smelling blood, quickly devouring the scattered numbers.

Even Dida felt an instinctive urge, those numbers had an indescribable allure to her. If not for strong self-control, she would have joined in like the others.

”What’s going on?!”

”Digital Life is different from AI in that it doesn’t have its own processing system,” Gao Gong serenely said, looking at the digital human forms like addicts, ”So how does it handle its input, output, and processing?”

Dida hesitated: ”Eating and digesting?”

”That’s right, mutual devouring can solve some computing problems.”

”We should move.”

Gao Gong suddenly grabbed Dida, and in a flash, they appeared before a ’QR code’.

On this QR code was a small line of text——’Earth Net Group 18-4 Branch Entrance’.

”Scanning?!”

Seeing something familiar, Dida couldn’t help pausing, subconsciously asking: ”How do I scan?”

”Just press it.”

Gao Gong reached out, palm against the QR code, in the next moment, his body disintegrated into tens of thousands of digits, swept up by the QR code like a storm.

’This is not a QR code, it’s a 3D code.’

Dida thought, imitating the action.

’Identity verification completed, welcome, No. 1451 interviewee.’

Interview!?

No time to think further, Dida’s vision blurred, her body quickly disintegrated, feeling a strong sense of suffocation, unlike G. figure’s nonchalant experience.

It felt a bit like being thrust in a flushing toilet for tens of cycles.

Though a bit disgusting, the analogy matched Dida’s current feeling, and unlike before, when transformed back into a human form, a noticeable sense of weakness emerged, nearly causing her to stumble.

Breathing against the wall, Dida instinctively opened the player panel, pausing a moment, discovering her 15th Generation Native Digital Life had become 14.5 generations.

Why is it 0.5 less?

”What are you standing around for, hurry to queue, the sooner the interview, the sooner it’s over.” Gao Gong’s voice came from not far away.

Wanting to ask Gao Gong, Dida was stunned by the scene before her, finding herself in a corridor, a long queue lined up, everyone in neat suits, holding document folders, and G. figure waved at her from the line.

”This place is——”

Just about to ask, Dida noticed her attire had changed, her gothic dress became a sleek women’s suit, holding a similar document folder, opening it to find her resume, with her signature image, a bespectacled girl in her early twenties.

”This, this, right, I felt uncomfortable...” Dida considering her words, explained the situation.

Gao Gong calmly nodded, saying: ”Back to the previous topic, how does a Digital Life handle its input, output, and processing?”

”If eating represents ’input’, digestion ’output’, then processing?”

The most crucial aspect of an artificial intelligence system is its processing capability, while G. figure highlighted, Digital Life lacks a processing system.

Dida frowned, pondering, suddenly having a revelation, blurting out: ”Iteration!”

”That’s right, the processing capability of Digital Life is self-iteration. Each version iteration addresses the lingering problems of the previous version, prolonging its ’life’.”

”Conversely, without iteration within a set time, the Digital Life collapses, which is death in simple terms.”

”And the best way to iterate is by joining a large cyber network enterprise, utilizing their technological resources for updates.”

Gao Gong nodded in the direction of ’Earth Net Group Interview Office’—the words were particularly eye-catching.
