Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

The trees on the mountain were also set ablaze.

Coupled with the hot and dry weather, the fire grew more intense, spreading to the surrounding forests.

”Well, most of the zombies were blasted and buried, but a wildfire has started,” the Jackal said to Third Uncle.

Third Uncle looked at the scene on the drone and then at the burning mountain behind the car.

He then said to everyone, ”Let’s go, if we don’t leave now, the wildfire behind us will catch up.”

Xiao Jun quickly instructed the driver to start the vehicle.

Vroom, vroom, vroom—

The vehicle sped along the cracked cement road.

Watching the wildfire get further away, Third Uncle closed the car window to prevent the ashes outside from drifting inside.

He took a sip of water and rubbed his temples.

”We haven’t encountered those people who lured the zombies away these past few days. Now the sun’s radiation is too strong, let’s head back to the base. Another day, when there’s time, we’ll send a helicopter to search.”

Upon hearing this, Xiao Jun let out a long sigh of relief.

These past three days had been exhausting.

During the day, they had to lure the zombies and at night, be vigilant against zombie attacks, making each camp site hard to find.

Working under such strong sun radiation, even with helmets and radiation protection clothing, was stifling.

Hearing Third Uncle say they were returning, though no one spoke, everyone was very excited to finally be going back.

On the road back to Big Camphor Tree Base, the wildfires behind them burned hotter, larger, with an ever-widening range.

Meanwhile, less than eight kilometers away.

Coming out from the bunker, Song Tianyi stood at the bunker entrance, puzzled as he looked at the thick smoke in the western sky.

He murmured to himself:

”Was that an earthquake just now? What’s on fire over there?”

He couldn’t figure it out, but at least they had been much more at ease these past few days; the nuclear radiation zombies had been lured away, eliminating their hidden threat, so they no longer needed to worry constantly like before.

.....

After dealing with the nuclear radiation zombies, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

The road they traveled, although just a rural cement road, continued forward and led to another highway.

From that highway, they only needed to drive southwest to reach Big Camphor Tree Base.

It took three or four days to lure the zombies, but returning only took four or five hours.

If not for the strong sun radiation outside, they would have eagerly opened the car windows to enjoy the breeze.

A few hours later.

As evening approached and darkness set in, they seemed less tense.

After all, they had become accustomed to the high-stakes environment over the past few days.

Plus, they were now less than six kilometers from Big Camphor Tree Base.

Very soon.

They arrived at Big Camphor Tree Base.

The gates opened, and inside stood a dozen people holding hoses.

By then, the sky had darkened.

Third Uncle got out of the car and took off his helmet.

”Captain, for everyone’s safety, we need to wash the vehicles and the radiation protection clothing you’ve removed,” Old Bi walked over and said to Third Uncle.

Third Uncle looked at the temporary washing pools set up in Weng City.

He nodded, not refusing.

A few vehicles drove in sequence to the small pools where Old Bi and the others used hoses for washing.

Meanwhile, Third Uncle and others took off their radiation protection clothing and helmets for centralized washing and treatment.

After washing, the water was then piped out of Big Camphor Tree Base, flowing outside.

Although they hadn’t touched the nuclear radiation zombies and were wearing radiation protection clothing, additional measures were taken to ensure the safety of others at the base, as most people here were not wearing radiation protection clothing.
