Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

A few hours earlier.

Oil City.

As the torrential rain ceased, the people inside the city were ecstatic.

Dong Tai, who was on duty, quickly shared this good news with Ju Tianrui, who was sleeping.

Ju Tianrui had instructed him that whenever the rain stopped, he must inform Ju Tianrui, no matter the time.

”The rain stopped?” Ju Tianrui didn’t even put on a coat, and ran outside barefoot.

”Yes, the rain stopped.” Dong Tai’s mouth was full of smiles.

Ju Tianrui hurriedly ran to the wall to observe the zombies below.

The mobile switch blade was still operating, but the height of the zombie pile was not as high as before. In some places, the height was so low that the mobile switch blade was practically cutting air.

”Camp Commander, the rain stopped! Why don’t you look very happy?” Dong Tai noticed Ju Tianrui seemed preoccupied, so he asked.

”Turn off the main power switch!” Ju Tianrui took a deep breath and instructed Dong Tai.

”Huh? Why? If we turn off the main power switch, won’t the mobile switch blade also shut down?” Dong Tai didn’t understand Ju Tianrui’s intention.

However, he looked below and noticed that with the end of the torrential rain, the zombie pile’s height was decreasing. It seemed that shutting down the mobile switch blade might not be problematic.....

But....

”Just turn it off when I tell you to, no need for so much nonsense, execute the order!”

In Oil City, there was no factory, apart from the mobile switch blade which required a large amount of power, along with the sole oil well, which needed lighting and power equipment for drilling.

However, after Ma Sailong had just repaired it last time, the torrential rain came again, so it remains in a closed state.

The rest is merely lighting and heating, which for now, doesn’t seem to affect them much.

Dong Tai was filled with doubts, but orders were orders. Since Ju Tianrui gave the order, he could only comply.

Thus, he had to go down and shut off the power system.

The power system in Oil City was relatively simple, relying solely on diesel generators; just shut off the generator and pull the switch to turn it off.

Ju Tianrui was weighed down by concerns. He actually didn’t understand why it was necessary to shut down the power system, nor why Director Li had left them dozens of sets of radiation protection suits.

He had guessed at the time, could there possibly be a nuclear explosion?

But he is disciplined; as long as an order comes from above, he will implement it truthfully.

This was also why he protected Gan Gaojie and the others at Orange Continent, even when things seemed off but he hadn’t found evidence yet.

The power system in Oil City was shut down.

Everyone was bewildered, the feedback received when asking for the situation was that it was Ju Tianrui’s order.

”Did you consult Headquarter Base about this matter? Why did you directly shut off the power switch, there are still zombies outside!” Zuo Ruxue found Dong Tai, looking at him curiously as she asked.

”I don’t know, if you have concerns go find the Camp Commander. I am the one who executes the orders. But don’t worry about the zombies outside, now that the rain has stopped, they’re not as active, and the stacking height has decreased. Besides, it will be daylight soon.”

People from the military background, even amid doomsday, are habitually obedient to orders.

Zuo Ruxue was quite upset, they had been in Oil City the longest, having gone through Old Bi, Xiao Jun, and now Ju Tianrui.

In her impression, Ju Tianrui wasn’t that kind of person. He wasn’t someone who was authoritarian!

Her eyes flickered, and she couldn’t help but let her imagination run wild.

She once encountered a certain kind of person.

These people seemed fine on the surface, sunny, cheerful, seemingly no different from ordinary people.

But suddenly one day, they commit murder, even harboring intentions to avenge society, hate humanity, and engage in self-destruction.

Psychological illness.

Could it be that Ju Tianrui is suffering from psychological illness? Zuo Ruxue pondered darkly.

She contemplated telling Dong Tai her suspicion.

But Dong Tai was also obeying Ju Tianrui, and without sufficient evidence, he would certainly follow Ju Tianrui.

The best course of action now was to contact Headquarters Base, then ask clearly whether they knew about this matter. If not, inquire directly about Ju Tianrui’s purpose.

Then, Dong Tai might turn towards her side.

Thus, Zuo Ruxue quickly ran to the conference room.

Picked up the military radio to contact Big Camphor Tree Base.

But only a noisy electric current was heard, completely unable to contact Big Camphor Tree Base.

What is this!!!?

Zuo Ruxue was shocked, doubt began to cloud her mind.

The more she thought, the more something seemed off, and it felt like a monstrous conspiracy was unfolding within.

Meanwhile.

Dong Tai saw Zuo Ruxue leave with a complex expression and decided to follow her.

”What are you doing?” Dong Tai asked.

A startling noise.

Echoed in the empty conference room.

Zuo Ruxue forced herself to remain calm and said to Dong Tai, ”The base has treated us well! What exactly are you trying to do? You’re aware of the strength of the base, you know what the consequences are for betraying the base?”

Even though she tried hard to steady her emotions, her voice still carried a hint of tremor.

Dong Tai looked at her peculiarly and acknowledged with a nod, lighting up his hand to illuminate her, ”What kind of nonsense are you saying?”

Zuo Ruxue had overthought things, looking at him with horror: ”Turning off the power system, I don’t know the purpose of doing this.

But, damaging the military radio is to cut off contact between the base and us, right? Are you trying to monopolize Oil City?

That’s not right, how could you?”

Dong Tai was confused by her words but caught the important part.

”The radio is broken?” Dong Tai came over, glanced at her, and asked.

Seeing his reaction, Zuo Ruxue began to doubt if she misjudged the situation.

No need for such acting.....

”If you don’t believe me, try it yourself.” Zuo Ruxue said.

Dong Tai looked at her strangely, sat down to try contacting Big Camphor Tree Base, but failed.

Then Dong Tai picked up the walkie-talkie to contact Ju Tianrui.

”Camp Commander, this is Dong Tai, the military radio is broken, please come over, also, Zuo Ruxue seems... crazy.”

”You’re the crazy one,” Zuo Ruxue retorted.

Dong Tai chuckled but was puzzled as no reply came from Ju Tianrui.

”Commander, Commander, please respond if you receive!”

Still nothing.

”Damn it, could the walkie-talkie be broken too? Today is truly strange.” Dong Tai tapped the walkie-talkie as he spoke.

Zuo Ruxue calmed down at this point, considering Dong Tai wasn’t pretending, she began thinking about what was really happening.

Dong Tai stood up and said to Zuo Ruxue, ”Stay here, don’t run around, whatever absurdities you have, I’ll go find the Commander.”

Then grabbed a flashlight and walked out.

Zuo Ruxue, racing thoughts in the pitch-black conference room, pondered what all of this meant.

A few minutes later.

Voices of Ju Tianrui and Xiao Jun came.

”The military radio also broke?”

”Didn’t I say so? Zuo Ruxue has lost her mind.”

”Stop talking nonsense, blame me for not telling you clearly, I’ll go explain to her.”

...

Zuo Ruxue watched them come in.

By now she was no longer impulsive, just too many doubts in her mind needing resolution.

Ju Tianrui wasted no words, ending her doubts with one sentence.

”This is Director Li’s arrangement.”

Upon hearing this, all Zuo Ruxue’s doubts seemed to dissipate.

In her impression, Director Li always issued orders, but these orders ultimately proved effective later.

It’s Director Li’s order, then it’s fine.

Zuo Ruxue awkwardly chuckled, saying, ”Ahem, sorry about that, since it’s Director Li’s order, there’s no problem. I’ll head back first.”

Having finished speaking, she tried to leave as if fleeing.

At that moment.

A sudden brightness outside.

Dark clouds cleared, and the aurora appeared, illuminating the night sky.

Ju Tianrui and Zuo Ruxue saw the light outside, stepping out together.

”Could this be why the walkie-talkie and radio systems failed to work?”

The same thought occurred simultaneously to the three.
