Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 935: Chapter 649: A Flash of Inspiration!

The area around Poyang Lake.

Since Li Yu and his group dealt with Ma Jun’s prison gang around Chang City, the powers at Poyang Lake felt a sense of relief.

No need to hand over food as tribute; though they still had to battle zombies, they were not afraid.

If given a choice, they would rather fight zombies than face those raiders.

However, the terrifying natural disaster descended.

The team led by Dongfeng, composed of over a thousand people, faced high temperatures, extreme heat, volcanic eruptions, cold, and severe weather, along with raging zombies.

Their losses were extremely severe.

At the most dangerous moment, the walls they had built were breached.

That night, four-fifths of them perished.

Dongfeng led the remaining people, fighting a bloody path through, barely breaking the zombie encirclement.

But after breaking through, the number of people around him dwindled again.

Out of the thousand-member team, only one-tenth, over a hundred people, remained.

They went to Xiu Shui.

Hiding in a perilous mountain, using the steep terrain to fend off zombies.

Yet hunger and cold constantly took their lives.

After the rain cleared and temperatures rose.

They had only sixty people left.

From a three-digit population, it plummeted to just two digits.

Once again proving that, in the apocalypse, numbers don’t necessarily mean strength.

Only with a tall wall, self-sufficient food production, and powerful firepower can one survive long in this doomsday.

However, blind expansion would also bring great pressure on food, eventually forcing a reduction in numbers or an increase in production, but in such perilous circumstances, how can one cultivate and produce stably?

Having powerful firepower and tall walls.

These elements are indispensable.

If one part is missing, it’s like a barrel; with one short stave, water leaks out.

And they were missing not just one stave, but several.

After the natural disaster, they returned to the Poyang Lake area.

They had no choice; the crops they had planted here were still here.

However, the fields dealt them a heavy blow after the natural disaster.

The grains they had planted were nearly all frozen; they could only slowly salvage what was left, picking up semi-mature rice.

Although they weren’t ripe, grinding these shriveled grains into flour was still edible.

After spending a long time, they finally managed to make a lot.

The shriveled rice was less than 5% of their expected yield.

But with most of them dead, only sixty people remained, these half-raw grains could sustain them for a few months.

Absurd, yet pathetic.

If there were still so many of them, these would have lasted only ten days.

Now, with only sixty-plus people, they could survive a few more months.

Ironically.

Later, this place turned out to be very suitable for cultivation, so they didn’t leave. They spent time building walls, constantly reinforcing them from the original foundation.

However, the weather grew colder and colder.

They had only completed two-thirds of the wall heightening when it started to snow.

.......

It snowed.

For other survivors in the apocalypse, this was bad news.

The night brought wind and snow.

In the end, Gan Xiong sent Gan Hu to Yishi.

He brought a hundred-person team.

All armed.

They arrived at the outskirts of Yishi by evening but did not enter immediately.

Instead, they chose to camp in an industrial plant a few dozen kilometers outside Yishi.

They knew that the more people there were, the more zombies they would attract.

If a hundred of them entered the city, it would easily lure a large number of zombies.

So they did not enter the city.

They waited for the next day to scout the truth at the brewery in the eastern suburb of Yishi.

If the opposing strength wasn’t strong, they planned to launch a surprise raid.

But man’s plans can’t compare to the heavens.

At night, it snowed.

Snowflakes danced in the air.

Gan Hu looked at Wayne outside the car and said, ”Damn, it’s snowing, what do we do tomorrow?”

Wayne looked at the second young master of the Gan family helplessly and said, ”We have no better options; we have to force it. It’s getting colder these days; we have to hurry; otherwise, it’ll get even colder, and we won’t be able to return to the base.”

Gan Hu shrank his head into his clothes, exhaled, and said, ”Alright, tomorrow lead a team to scout ahead; I’ll support from behind. If things go south, signal me; if they’re not strong, just wave at me.”

Wayne looked at Gan Hu in shock, couldn’t believe how openly shameless he was.

He kept his complaints to himself.

Couldn’t say much, so he just nodded and said, ”Okay, then you get some rest. I’ll arrange for the guards.”

”Alright, alright, I’m not going inside the plant; it’s too cold. I’d rather stay in the car, at least there’s heat,” Gan Hu said.

Wayne hesitated, wanting to point out that keeping the car heater on all night would consume fuel, but since it was the only car, he decided not to mention it.

Gan Hu lowered the back seat, crossed his arms over his chest feeling a bit cold, so he turned up the heat, covered himself with a blanket.

Comfortably lying down again, listening to the rustling snowflakes against the window, he slowly drifted into sleep.

Wayne watched Gan Hu’s car in the snowstorm, shook his head, and went to arrange the guards.

.....

Big Camphor Tree Base.

After covering the plastic sheet on the sunlight panels, everyone went back to rest.

Tomorrow, we have to get up early to install the sunlight panels. If it continues to snow tomorrow, it’s going to be tough.

At night, snowflakes drifted down softly.

A silent night.

Early the next morning.

After Li Yu woke up, he went directly to the balcony to check the weather outside.

The snow was still falling, and even heavier than yesterday.

Li Yu sighed slightly, hoping the snow would stop today.

This would make their work easier. Unfortunately, not only did it not stop, it increased to a moderate snowfall.

He glanced at the outdoor thermometer; the temperature was now at minus nineteen degrees.

No choice but to muster the courage to get the greenhouse built.

Li Yu put on an extra layer of clothing, with a windbreaker over it.

After running downstairs, he skipped exercising and went straight for some breakfast.

...

After breakfast, Li Yu went to the Outer City to find Xiao Qian and Xiao Liu, who were in charge of building the greenhouses there.

”Ask the brothers to hold on today. I checked the progress, and it’s almost done. We don’t know how the weather will be afterwards, but we can’t stop planting. Let’s get the rest installed.” Li Yu said to the two.

Looking at the moderate snow outside, Xiao Qian hesitated a moment and said, ”Alright, we’ll speed it up.”

Li Yu nodded, reminding them: ”Not just speed, everyone should be careful not to fall and get hurt. Be cautious. Let’s get the sunlight panels installed today; as for the water and electricity, they can be done tomorrow. We’ve already laid the water pipes, just need to connect them.”

Standing to the side, Xiao Liu said, ”Understood, we’ll be careful.”

Li Yu looked at the two; they were young but both were construction specialists, so he said warmly, ”Okay, get to it. I also need to head to the Inner City.”

Li Yu left the Outer City and returned to the walls, seeing that there were still some zombies lingering outside the base, not many, just a dozen or so.

The zombies’ skin was ghastly pale, blending into the white snow.

Moreover, with the weather getting colder, the snow-covered ground made it dangerous for people outside.

Thinking it over, he went to the duty room and said to Uncle: ”Uncle, have He Chao or someone else notify the external personnel to return. It’s cold outside now, and staying out there isn’t necessary and quite risky.

Also, withdraw the outposts near the fifth-kilometer mark on the highway.

Yes, for the Extra Staff and Cooperative Personnel, if they seek shelter, we can start letting them in.”

Recalling something, Uncle asked, ”Xiao Yu, where is the Zombie Generator placed? Right now, they’re all in the residential building of the Second Outer City. If we let Extra Staff and Cooperative Personnel in, the zombies and they would be living in the same building...”

Li Yu hadn’t considered this earlier, but upon hearing Uncle mention it, he realized it indeed was a crucial issue.

It wasn’t just about zombies and humans in the same building; more importantly, he didn’t want others to see the Zombie Generator.

Yet, the Zombie Generator couldn’t be placed in the Inner City, so Li Yu rubbed his temples, troubled by this matter.

The upcoming construction of the Third Outer City was put on hold due to focusing on building greenhouses.

Yet, the Zombie Generator was vital, being a treasure that could produce electricity continuously.

Seeing Li Yu’s struggle, Uncle suggested after pondering, ”How about relocating the Zombie Generator to Weng City, the one in the First Outer City? It only needs a sunshade panel there.”

Li Yu thought it over, feeling that space was smaller than necessary.

After considering it, he said, ”I’ll think about this more. For now, have the external base personnel return.”

Joining the Outer City meant being part of the Big Camphor Tree Base in real terms.

Li Yu always treated the people of this base well.

As for those Cooperative Personnel, help if possible, but it’s not mandatory.

It was a mutually beneficial relationship; they find supplies, and we provide food.

No obligation towards them.

Besides, with food being scarce, being able to exchange food with them was already to their advantage.

It’s unrealistic to expect the Big Camphor Tree Base to protect them whenever trouble arises.

Sheltering them is kindness, not sheltering is a duty.

....

”What about the Extra Staff?” Uncle asked after some thought.

Li Yu furrowed his brow; among the Extra Staff, many were close to earning enough points to enter the city.

Moreover, some of them were recognized by Li Yu.

Just like Xiao Hu and Zuo Ruxue, they had been cooperating with the base for a long time.

And they had contributed significantly to the Big Camphor Tree Base.

After thinking it over, Li Yu said, ”Let them in temporarily to help with building the greenhouses. Since it’s snowing now, it’s not feasible for them to go out looking for supplies.”

Uncle thought this was a good idea and said, ”Alright, I’ll notify Zuo Ruxue, Xiao Hu, and Zhu Xiao later.”

Li Yu nodded and said, ”Alright, Uncle, make sure to follow all safety and inspection protocols. Even though they are familiar, precautions must not be skipped.”

Uncle nodded seriously, acknowledging that Li Yu was right.

With all arrangements made, Li Yu frowned and returned to the Inner City.

Dapao, seeing Li Yu returned with a frown, couldn’t help but ask, ”Brother Yu, why the gloomy face after coming back from the Outer City?”

Li Yu briefly explained what he discussed with Uncle.

Dapao thought about it but couldn’t come up with a better idea.

Li Yu stared absentmindedly at the greenhouse.

As he looked, he suddenly had a thought about the greenhouse.

A light bulb moment.

Got it!

The greenhouses needed heating anyway.

No need to keep thinking of building a new place.

It’s already available, isn’t it?!
