Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 928: Chapter 646: Greenhouse Construction in Progress

It’s crucial to maintain the temperature right now, as the ideal temperature for seed germination is around 30 to 32 degrees. The basement heating is running 24 hours a day, which might consume quite a bit of electricity.

The germination process will only take 3 to 7 days, and the next stage will be transplantation.

I asked Ding Jiu, he said if the sunlight panels for the greenhouse are installed smoothly, it would take at most a week to complete.

So once the greenhouse is ready, I can immediately proceed with transplantation. We can start planting right away.”

Li Yu listened with partial understanding, but he caught An Ya’s last sentence, which meant it was almost ready.

He nodded satisfactorily and said, ”Good, you’re progressing quickly. Don’t worry about the power issue. Currently, there’s no problem with energy; set the temperature as needed. The greenhouse should be completed in a few days, and then you will be responsible for leading people to relocate these seedlings.”

An Ya exclaimed with surprise, ”The sunlight panels are done?”

”Completed,” Li Yu replied.

”That’s great!”

”Alright, you all stay busy, I’ll go have a look around.” Li Yu said to everyone.

Then he left the underground planting room.

....

After leaving the basement, he headed to the factory area.

He opened a sealed door.

And entered.

Inside the factory, two lights were turned on.

Second Uncle was inside, along with Li Zhengping and others, putting potatoes and some cleaned sweet potatoes onto machines for baking.

Li Yu walked in.

Second Uncle looked up and saw Li Yu, hurriedly greeted him, ”Xiao Yu, you’re here!”

Li Yu nodded slightly, looking at Second Uncle’s white outfit, said, ”Second Uncle, you’re looking quite professional.”

Second Uncle shook his head and said, ”Producing food, hygiene is important. If conditions weren’t so limited, we would be more rigorous, especially measures against mice, flies, insects, and ensuring hand washing and changing clothes. By the way, Xiao Yu, was your out trip smooth?”

Hearing Second Uncle’s rigorous attitude, Li Yu felt somewhat relieved, not regretting supporting Second Uncle to bring these machines back.

After processing these raw materials, the food can be preserved long-term, and it tastes better than simple baking.

Most importantly, it won’t waste those foods with short shelf lives.

So Li Yu said to Second Uncle, ”It went smoothly, the sunlight panels are all transported back, we can start constructing the greenhouse tomorrow.”

”That’s good.” Second Uncle nodded.

Suddenly remembering something, Second Uncle said, ”This machine consumes a lot of power, I’m not sure about the base’s energy usage. If power is insufficient, I can temporarily halt the production.”

Li Yu shook his head and said, ”No need, electricity is not scarce right now. Use it as you need. If power becomes insufficient, someone will inform you.”

After hearing Li Yu say this, Second Uncle finally felt relieved.

After checking everything, Li Yu left the area as well.

His stomach was starting to rumble, he hadn’t eaten well these past two days.

So he headed to the dining hall.

.....

The next day.

October 19th.

Calculating the days, Mid-Autumn Festival had passed unnoticed.

Li Yu had forgotten about it.

Helplessly, the entire base was busy.

Reflecting back, indeed everyone was given a mooncake a few days ago.

But on that day, everyone was so busy, it unknowingly passed.

But it’s not important.

Right now, the most important thing is constructing the greenhouse. Once the greenhouse is built, the base can ignore weather changes and continuously produce food.

The significance of food in Doomsday is undeniable.

Apart from those who entered the Big Camphor Tree Base early, everyone else joined later experienced times of hunger.

Some were long, some were short, but the unbearable pain left an unforgettable memory.

Only those who have been hungry know the importance of food.

The sky was clear.

The red sun slowly rose from the east.

By this time, many people in the base were already up.

Today is the day to install the sunlight panel covering layers for the greenhouse.

As Li Yu walked out of the room, he felt the weather had become cold again.

Walking up to the balcony on the roof, he checked the thermometer.

The outdoor temperature had already dropped to minus eight degrees.

Last night was certainly colder; now, even in the morning when the temperature is rising, it’s still this cold.

Li Yu put on a quick-drying shirt, then wore a dual-layered jacket with an inner liner outside, very warm.

Wearing the quick-drying shirt because he too was going to help quickly get the greenhouse sorted out.

Eating breakfast, drinking hot rice porridge, plus some pickles.

After eating, his whole body felt much warmer.

He headed to the Inner City greenhouse construction site.

Before Doomsday, the general specs for a greenhouse skeleton were its thickness and wall measure.

Ordinary main pillars were 15×15 centimeters or 12×6, 10×10, 10×5, etc., or the skeleton’s wall thickness was 5 millimeters, 3 millimeters, or 2.7 millimeters.

But Li Yu and the team needed to withstand strong winds, snowstorms, and various disasters, so the skeleton strength was three to four times the normal standard.

Moreover, it was embedded two meters deep into the ground.

The advantage was its stability comparable to houses, the disadvantage was it consumed too much steel and occupied some land.

Coincidentally, after Xiao Jun and He Chao emptied a steel plant, hundreds of tons of steel were available, so there was no shortage for now.

Additionally, the land occupied by the greenhouse could be negligible compared to the few dozen acres.

Moreover.

They didn’t choose the simpler plastic film but opted for sturdier sunlight panels.

Plastic films are changed every two years, whereas sunlight panels have a lifespan of over a decade.

In fact.

The transparency rate of plastic film is about 87%, similar to sunlight panels. Single film and single layer glass insulation aren’t ideal.

So many continuous membrane greenhouses use multi-layer structures or double-layer films to improve insulation.

Continuous membrane film is mainly for temporary greenhouse users.

Long-term practicality still relies on sunlight panel greenhouses.

Whether from the skeleton, covering layer, or stability, they measured that these sunlight panels had superior impact resistance.

They could resist strong winds and heavy rain, being a high-tech, comprehensive performance plastic that is energy-saving and environmentally friendly.

Additionally, sunlight panels’ most notable feature is impact resistance, tested with a 2KG weight dropped from two meters without breaking.

To put it simply, sunlight panel impact strength is 250 to 300 times that of ordinary glass.

Compared to plastic film or glass, sunlight panels have overwhelming advantages.

Li Yu watched Dapao and the others drive the sunlight panels over; the sunlight reflecting off the panels gave him a sense of security.

This winter, he didn’t think it would be easy to get through.

He recalled after Doomsday, there were numerous hailstorms; hail usually occurs at minus 12 to 16 degrees.

If hail falls, using glass or plastic film definitely wouldn’t hold up against hail.

Nor could it withstand strong winds and heavy rain.

Although installing sunlight panels is difficult and troublesome, it’s necessary.

One-time effort for lasting benefit.

Third Uncle was off duty today and came over to help; seeing Li Yu, he said, ”Xiao Yu, you’re here too!”

”Yes, came to help. Today I’m a soldier, wherever needed, I’ll go, listening to the experts.”

Third Uncle took out a fruit resembling sweet potato, peeled it and ate.

”What’s this?”

”Snow lotus fruit, a health fruit, An Ya experimented with growing it a while back, tastes pretty good.”

Li Yu didn’t say anything and said to Third Uncle, ”I’ll go over and help now.”

Third Uncle nodded slightly, indicating he’d come over after eating.

Li Yu joined the team installing the panels.

The sun rose from the east as usual.

Under the sunlight, a large group gathered around the greenhouse skeleton, some moving sunlight panels, some standing on lifts, some simply sitting on the skeleton to install.

This greenhouse structure is streamlined and oval.

It’s not prone to snow or water accumulation, facing wind, it can minimize wind pressure.

Under the sun, at Big Camphor Tree Base, everyone was sweating.

Despite the cold weather, there was a lively, vigorous vibe.

Everything, will gradually get better.

Everything, is slowly getting better.
