Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Seeing Uncle Qin’s stance, Third Uncle reined in the smile on his face

Solemnly returned a military salute, clearly enunciated and gravely said, ”Agreed to rejoin the squad.”

The moment the words were spoken, Third Uncle was like a sword drawn from its sheath, its edge unveiled, substantial, the air chilled with murderous intent.

Slightly hunched over, Third Uncle, who on ordinary days resembled an old peasant, now erupted with a formidable aura, an unmatched oppressive force.

Uncle Qin looked at Third Uncle, feeling a surge of complex emotions in his heart.

It had been years.

Together they were once part of the Government’s Special Forces, embarking on hidden missions overseas.

Somalia, Beautiful Country, Southern Vietnam Border, Arctic Bear, Indian ”Ah San”...

Before the apocalypse, many ordinary people were unaware amidst the tumult of international secrecy, they were the blades of the nation, shouldering its concerns.

Wherever there was the most perilous situation, they were there.

In their last operation, this elite Special Soldier squad had already successfully completed the mission, but who could have predicted that the enemy would dispatch an entire brigade to encircle them.

In the relentless pursuit, seven members of the squad could die fighting, but absolutely could not be captured.

Thus in the jungle, surrounded by enemies everywhere,

Third Uncle led the squad, to avoid annihilation, they dispersed, using their individual combat prowess to their advantage, not engaging the enemy head-on.

Utilizing the complex terrain of the jungle to execute sniper warfare, close-quarter combat, and more.

The seven of them, at the King of Soldiers Level from the Government, managed to endure three days and nights.

A brigade of 7000, a squad of 7 in total.

One versus a thousand.

It was a battle of vastly uneven strength.

They never thought they would get out alive; they only thought to fight until the end, until death.

Third Uncle said, since they dared to pursue, since escape was impossible,

Then give them a deterrence!

If we cannot live, then we’ll show them the consequences of their pursuit, this is also the attitude the higher-ups wished to convey.

Seven men, by scattering and because each of them was already a top jungle expert, elusive like slippery eels, gave the enemy a world of trouble.

Setting fires to the mountains, the landscape covered with bombs.

None could affect them, but as the enemy tightened the encirclement,

Three among them, after being discovered and riddled with bullets, opted to calmly detonate their explosives, blowing themselves to pieces, leaving the enemy with no evidence.

On their persons, there was no identification. Once dead, they would disappear like evaporated water, and no one would know of them again.

...

Third Uncle and Uncle Qin survived, as instructed by the higher-ups previously, after the completion of this mission, success or failure.

They could no longer appear in public view; they had to live under assumed names.

No one knew what they did, and after the apocalypse, it might be impossible to locate the ones who assigned the mission.

The things they did, the citizens did not know, even if they knew, there was no way to prove it was their doing.

After returning to China, Third Uncle chose to live incognito, not daring to seek out his family, until after a whole year had passed before he ventured to find his relatives.

Less than two months later, the Zombie outbreak erupted.

While Uncle Qin found work in a factory.

Let the past fade with the wind.

Recollections of past battles flutter past like a kaleidoscope.

All that has passed.

Uncle Qin still remembered, before Third Uncle issued the order to disperse, he had told them to regroup on July 15th, at eight in the morning, at a designated spot on the border.

Third Uncle waited there a full two days, yet no one else came.

Seeing a comrade presumed dead suddenly before him, his excitement was natural.

After exchanging salutes, Third Uncle asked, ”Uncle Qin, were there others who escaped besides you?”

A nervous and uneasy tone edged his voice.

Upon hearing this question, Uncle Qin sighed and said, ”No, I hid in a ravine for two days, and after arriving at the agreed spot on the 17th, I didn’t see any of you. After waiting another two days, I left...”

Third Uncle, hearing that Uncle Qin stayed till the 17th for two days, said unhurriedly, ”I waited until the 16th, we missed each other by just a bit.”

After talking for a while longer, Li Yu and the others slowly approached.

Uncle Qin, seeing Li Yu and the others, curiously asked, ”Captain, I didn’t get the chance to ask before, who are these people?”

Third Uncle looked at Li Yu, then said to Uncle Qin, ”Most of them are my family, and some joined us later. We are together.”

Uncle Qin glanced toward Li Yu beside Third Uncle, and his many years of instinct faintly suggested to him that this young man beside the Captain was not to be underestimated.

Seeing Uncle Qin looking at Li Yu, Third Uncle introduced him, ”Uncle Qin, this is my eldest nephew.”

Then pointing to Li Tie and Li Gang beside Li Yu, he said, ”These two are my sons.”

”Come over, greet your Uncle Qin.”

Li Yu had also seen their actions and heard Third Uncle’s conversation. Before the apocalypse, their conversations were not to be discussed with outsiders, but now, in the apocalypse, there was no longer any need for concern.

Li Yu stepped forward and politely said to Old Qin, ”Uncle Qin, hello.”

Li Gang and Li Tie also came over and greeted him.

Before he enlisted, Old Qin had only his elderly mother and no wife or children. After the apocalypse broke out, his mother turned into a zombie, and he become a solitary man.

Old Qin had followed Third Uncle for many years, fighting battles in all directions. Their friendship, forged through life and death, had long surpassed that of blood brothers.

Suddenly seeing so many nephews of Third Uncle, he felt a wave of joy and pride. His gaze towards Li Yu and the others became even more tender.

In his eyes, he considered Li Yu, Li Gang, and Li Tie as his own nephews.

Old Qin reminisced about his life, constantly at war.

Yet in midlife, he was alone, and now he suddenly had so many nephews. How could he not be happy?

Old Qin grinned broadly, nodding and saying, ”Very good, very good.”

At the same time, Third Uncle’s gaze shifted to Li Yu. Li Yu hesitated for a moment and then nodded.

Third Uncle spoke up, ”Old Qin, no need for more words. We’re here this time to move the lathes in this factory behind you; we need them.”

Upon hearing this, Old Qin laughed and replied, ”No problem, what’s this little task? I’ll have them help you move it in a bit.”

Li Yu, hearing this, also smiled and said, ”Thank you, Uncle Qin.”

Old Qin waved his hand to indicate it was no big deal. Then he walked back, shouting to Old Zhou and the others as he did, ”Put down the Molotov Cocktails, they’re our own people.”

Old Qin trusted the team leader. In past experiences, he and the team leader had faced times even more difficult than the apocalypse.

Because of this trust, he chose to believe in the people brought by the team leader.

Besides, they were all the team leader’s family members.

After a moment’s hesitation, Old Zhou and the others put down the Molotov Cocktails, partly because they trusted Old Qin and partly because, in comparison to Li Yu and his group, their power was vastly inferior.

They were well aware of the firearms that Li Yu and his group carried. Those were the real deal.

Genuine Type 95 automatic rifles.

If it really came down to a fight, they wouldn’t stand a chance.

Seeing Old Qin ordering the factory workers to put down the Molotov Cocktails made Li Yu’s opinion of him improve a bit.

Old Qin went to the back, pulled the large metal door wide open, and then called out to Li Yu and the others, ”Come in, we’ll help you move it together.”

Then, turning to Old Zhou and the others, he said, ”That man used to be my team leader; he’s trustworthy. They’re here to find lathes. Let’s help them move it later.”

Old Zhou didn’t say anything but nodded. These weren’t enemies but friends, and from the looks of it, quite strong friends at that.

Li Yu and his group didn’t hold back and followed Third Uncle inside.

Li Yu called out to Li Hang, ”Let them drive the vehicles in.”

Then he walked up to where Third Uncle and Old Qin were.

Old Qin said to Li Yu and Third Uncle, ”These are the brothers from my factory, who also served in the military before transitioning to civilian life. After that, we all worked here together, and we stayed here after the zombie outbreak.”

Then, turning to Old Zhou and the others, he added, ”This one used to be my team leader, and that one is his nephew.”

Everyone introduced themselves and exchanged pleasantries.

The scene was incredibly harmonious.

Just then, through his earpiece, Li Yu heard Dapao’s voice: ”Brother Yu, there’s a lot of people coming from about a kilometer away, looking like no fewer than 400. They’re approaching aggressively.”

Li Yu asked, ”Can you see who they are?”

Dapao replied, ”Never seen them before, but all of these people have a red dot on their foreheads.”

Li Yu said, ”Okay, keep watching. Don’t shoot yet; don’t act rashly. Wait for my command.”

Then, Li Yu’s face turned serious as he spoke to Old Qin, ”Uncle Qin, my brother says there’s a lot of people coming, with a red dot on their foreheads. Do you know who they might be?”

As soon as Li Yu finished speaking, anger flashed across the faces of Old Qin and Old Zhou.

Old Qin said, ”Those people are from the White Lotus Sect, led by Mother Wusheng. We were holding Molotov Cocktails just now because we thought it might have been them coming.

They act with impunity in Chenzhou City, exploiting the crisis of the apocalypse to brainwash many who have collapsed into despair.

We have conflicts with them. A few days ago, some of our people were taken captive by them when they went out to scavenge for supplies. They are still in their hands.

If you hadn’t come just now, we were ready to fight them to death.”

The words were filled with indignation.

The White Lotus Sect?

Li Yu recalled the signs with writings he saw on his way here and the fact that they had been followed.

It seemed to be the same group of people.

Cults were not something they had never encountered, nor were they ones they had never eliminated.

With this in mind, Li Yu reassured, ”Uncle Qin, I call you uncle, which means your concerns are my concerns. You don’t have to fight to the death. I will help you rescue them from the White Lotus Sect.”

Hearing Li Yu’s words, Old Zhou and the others immediately beamed with joy.

They had been feeling extremely frustrated; they were outnumbered and their enemies were too many.

But with firearms, would they fear the people of the White Lotus Sect?

Unfortunately, after retiring from the military and joining the factory, they hadn’t touched a gun in a long time.

They were well aware that under the sheer number advantage of Mother Wusheng’s group, without sufficient firepower, they were as easy to defeat as clay chickens and pottery dogs.
