Outside the cave, the sounds of branches being snapped grew louder.

Then came a rustling crash.

The sound of trees being pushed over and falling to the ground made everyone’s hearts race in an instant.

Li Yu slowly approached the mouth of the cave and made a shushing gesture to everyone.

Everyone held their breath, trying not to make any noise. Who knew how many zombies were outside now; if they were discovered by these zombies, it would spell trouble.

It had been a rough night already.

Li Yu carefully moved a small stone away, leaving just a tiny gap a few centimeters wide.

He pressed his eye against the gap, looking outside.

He saw a swarming horde of zombies in the distance. At the spot where they had relocated the bodies, it was now spotless, seemingly picked clean by the zombies.

At that thought, Li Yu suppressed the urge to vomit.

The zombies at the entrance were blocked by several trees, but the sound of falling branches had also come from that direction.

Indeed, a couple of sticks had been pressed down, and with the increasing number of zombies, the trees wouldn’t hold for long.

But there was nothing they could do at the moment.

Seeing the zombies rushing over, Li Yu felt incredibly helpless, having underestimated the zombies’ sense of smell. Even with the entrance sealed, they still smelled the humans inside.

It looked like there would be no sleep tonight.

Li Yu turned around, replaced the small stone he had removed, and said to everyone, ”The zombies outside might have discovered us.”

Black Snake, who was lying down pretending to be dead, now showed a face filled with fear; he certainly didn’t want to be dismembered by zombies.

However, neither Li Yu nor anyone else showed much change in expression.

Li Yu addressed the crowd, ”The entrance might collapse, but the large rock at the bottom, half a person tall, can’t be moved by the zombies.

We should split into groups and fend off the zombies at the entrance.”

The group nodded and followed through. It was inconvenient to carry Long Knives when they came out, but they had brought Daggers with them, and Yang Tianlong had a large machete on his back.

Speaking of this machete, it was found when the apocalypse had just erupted not long ago, right after Yang Tianlong and the others had joined the base and went to Yugu Platform in the city center to deal with enemies.

Yang Tianlong was particularly fond of this machete. It was made of an unknown material, sharp enough to cut hair and bone without nicking, and very sharp.

Yang Tianlong, who already preferred close combat, liked to swing the large blade in powerful chops and slashes; it was invigorating to him.

The chopping down of the trees outside had been done with this machete.

While felling trees, they had also fashioned some sticks, which they brought into the cave. Now, they could combine them with the Daggers to make spears.

Spears were the most suitable in this situation.

Everyone took out their Daggers and began crafting spears. Although these makeshift spears wouldn’t be as efficient as those carefully made at the base, they were certainly capable of killing zombies.

Everyone was busy making spears, and Captain Luo and the others wanted to lend a hand but were declined by Li Yu. They had enough people, the cave entrance was so small, there was no need for so many.

Li Yu watched as everyone finished making the spears, his mood steady and calm.

They had brought a lot of ammunition with them, several hundred rounds per person, amounting to over twenty thousand in total. If they hadn’t been concerned about carrying too much and affecting their mobility, they would have brought even more ammo.

There were still some bullets left in the vehicle.

But as plentiful as the ammunition was, they still had to use it sparingly. So far, they didn’t have the ability to manufacture their own bullets.

The feeling of being hemmed in and watching resources dwindle made Li Yu quite uncomfortable, so he was now exerting all his efforts to create equipment capable of producing bullets, along with securing the necessary raw materials.

He was determined to achieve self-sufficiency in ammunition.

By now, they had gathered a lot of the raw materials, and for the equipment, only a few key parts were left. The freedom to produce bullets was within reach!

Boom boom boom~

From the pile of rocks blocking the cave entrance, suddenly a muffled sound was heard.

Then, another sound followed.

Boom boom boom~

Crash~

The small rocks that Old Lü and the others had used to plug the gaps were now clattering down.

The zombies outside were continuously ramming into the stacked rocks; it was only because the rocks at the bottom were heavier that they hadn’t collapsed under the impact.

Third Uncle finished eating the entire apple, out of habit, not even leaving behind the core.

After eating, he straightened up and immediately raised his Dagger, ready for what was next.

Whoosh~

Suddenly, several rocks piled up at the entrance fell down.

When the rocks tumbled away, the zombies behind glimpsed Li Yu and his companions, and their frenzy intensified.

Their movements grew more forceful, but the narrow opening could only accommodate two zombies at a time, leading the ones behind to madly press forward.

The entire entrance was packed; Li Yu and the others couldn’t see outside, nor did they know what was happening there.

Clang~

A massive rock rolled down; it weighed about a hundred pounds, but because it wasn’t flat, it was quickly pushed aside.

After it fell, the entrance widened to nearly 80 centimeters, flanked by the heads of two zombies.

They thrust their heads into the opening, gnashing teeth and clawing, roaring at Li Yu and his group.

However, the rocks at the very bottom were so heavy that it made them difficult to displace.

Seeing the two zombies wedged in the gap, Li Yu suddenly relaxed. He now had just one thing on his mind: figuring out how to get out tomorrow.

After some thought, he lit a cigarette and began to smoke.

The cave was spacious enough, with some air circulation, but it was only through tiny gaps invisible to the naked eye.

Yesterday, they had rushed in without much time to think, driven by the desire to avoid being surrounded by zombies, so they just went straight in.

Originally, the idea was to hide inside the cave, unnoticed by the zombies, then wait for the sun to rise the next day. Zombies disliked sunlight, after all, and would naturally disperse.

However, disliking sunlight didn’t mean they couldn’t stay under it.

The zombies could still bear the sun; they would just be uncomfortable. Zombies preferred dark, damp places, so they liked to come out when it was raining or dark.

Now that Li Yu and his companions had been discovered by zombies, there was a good chance these zombies wouldn’t leave by tomorrow.

To these zombies, the sight of food was enough to endure the glaring sun.

Just like at other times, outside the base, there would always be some zombies lingering nearby because they knew there were people inside.

Li Yu looked at the two zombie heads thrashing violently and muttered helplessly, ”Seems like I’ll have to go on a killing spree, or I won’t have time to go back tomorrow. What a hassle!”
