Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

After communicating with Third Uncle, I discussed some specific matters with He Bing about going to the neighboring city tomorrow.

It was extremely fortunate for Li Yu and his team to be able to find a lathe.

However, Captain Luo and his team were still at the base, and Li Yu had originally planned to see them off.

But now the lathe was of great significance to Big Camphor Tree Base.

So, Li Yu decided to personally lead the team there.

He would leave Second Uncle in charge of the base.

Thinking of this, Li Yu found Second Uncle and briefed him on the current situation.

Second Uncle was very pleased to learn about the lathe and told Li Yu to go ahead without worry; he would take care of Captain Luo and the others at the base.

After settling these matters, Li Yu returned to the base to rest.

.....

A night passed without incident.

The Southern region is often shrouded in misty rain, with plentiful water vapor.

It was the rainy season, and there had just been a downpour not long ago.

The next morning, the sky was overcast, and moisture hung heavy in the air.

It was already seven o’clock in the morning.

But the sky looked as if heaven had accidentally overturned an inkstone full of ink; thick, dark clouds swiftly covered half the sky.

Rain was coming, and it looked set to be heavy.

Since the apocalypse, the weather had been highly unpredictable.

But during the rainy season, frequent rainfall was normal.

When Li Yu got up in the morning, he didn’t even have time for his morning exercise; he quickly suited up and ran to the walls to strengthen the defenses.

He also raised the alert level by one and doubled the number of people on the walls.

At the same time, he ordered He Chao and others stationed outside the base, on National Highway 319, to retreat.

Rain was no joke, especially during a torrential downpour. Zombies’ abilities were enhanced, with keen smell; even without seeing humans, they could sniff them out from afar.

Those stationed outside faced great danger.

And it was pointless to stay on duty outside during the rain, as few humans ventured out under such weather.

As Big Camphor Tree Base had expanded, its population had increased.

In the event of heavy rain lasting several days, a Zombie Tide would form in the vicinity, attracting zombies from afar.

Before the apocalypse, Xin City’s population was already high. The small county, despite its low GDP, had a population exceeding a million.

And the town where Li Yu’ group was located was one of the larger towns in Xin City, with a large population.

Once it rained, some zombies would surround the base. Although they were a threat to the base, they also served as an invisible barrier.

Preventing outsiders from coveting Big Camphor Tree Base.

Li Yu had a troubled look in his eyes, and his mood was not good.

He had planned to leave for the neighboring city with He Bing today to find a lathe, but now the rain disrupted his schedule.

This bout of rain was also messing with Captain Luo’s plans. Their headquarters was currently short on food, so the sooner they could return, the better to resolve the issue.

He had hoped to see Xiao Shi and then leave the next morning, but looking at the current situation, it was no longer possible.

Venturing out in a torrential downpour was tantamount to suicide.

Especially not knowing how long or heavy the rain would be.

If it rained for several days in a row, staying outside would be courting death!

Seeing Li Yu’s furrowed brows, Third Uncle, who was also on the walls, said, ”Xiao Yu, you said yesterday that you and He Bing would come today to take us to the neighboring city to find a lathe. It’s about to rain; I don’t know if they will still come.

If they do come, they should be almost here by now.”

Li Yu nodded, just as he was about to reply.

Several vehicles suddenly emerged from the forest outside the base.

The searchlights moved, searching in that direction.

Li Yu, holding a telescope, saw that it was indeed He Bing and the others in the cars.

In less than ten seconds.

He Bing got out of the car, wielding a spear, and dispatched a zombie that had just approached.

He then shouted up to Li Yu on the wall, ”Director Li, we’ve arrived.”

As the sky grew darker, small showers began to sprinkle from the clouds.

More and more zombies gathered outside the base.

Seeing He Bing and the others, the zombies outside the walls surged towards them.

Watching the increasing numbers of zombies, Li Yu said to Li Haoran and the others beside him, ”Support them with crossbows.”

He then ordered Dapao to open the large iron gate.

He Bing, at the base of the wall, seeing Li Yu open the gate, thrust his spear into a zombie that rushed over.

He swiftly climbed back into the car and shouted to his companion in the driver’s seat, ”The gate’s open, let’s get inside quickly.”

The vehicles quickly entered.

After several cars came through, a few chasing zombies followed.

These few zombies that entered were quickly shot down by everyone on the walls.

Li Yu came down with a few men, holding firearms, stood about ten meters away from He Bing and asked, ”Has anyone been bitten?”

Everyone from He Bing’s team had exited the vehicles.

He Bing stepped forward and said, ”Director Li, none of us have been bitten. As agreed yesterday, we arrived at seven o’clock, but it’s raining outside. Shall we still go to the neighboring city to find the lathe?”

Upon hearing this, everyone behind them held their breath, eager to hear how Li Yu would respond.

In this rainy weather, with so many Zombies, venturing out was undoubtedly risking their lives.

This morning, He Bing’s classmate told him that it was going to rain and they probably couldn’t make it, suggesting they shouldn’t bother going to the Big Camphor Tree Base.

There were too many risks. It was too dangerous to search in the rain, but they already had several hundred pounds of food, which could sustain them for a while.

Before setting off this morning, He Bing thought for a long time, and ultimately decided to come, not wanting to break the promise he had made to Li Yu yesterday.

Moreover, if Li Yu and his group dared to go out, he didn’t have to worry too much.

So they went.

They encountered some Zombies on the way, but not many, and nothing hindered their journey.

Li Yu, hearing He Bing’s words, shook his head and said, ”We won’t go today, it’s too dangerous in the rain.”

Upon hearing Li Yu’s response, the companions behind He Bing immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

Li Yu noticed their small reaction and instantly recalled the communication with Third Uncle earlier.

He was under the impression that He Bing and his group wouldn’t come and could see that He Bing’s classmates didn’t really want to go to the neighboring city.

They didn’t want to go, but they came anyway.

Remembering how yesterday, He Bing had confidently assured they would come tomorrow,

Li Yu’s opinion of He Bing improved somewhat.

Trustworthy!

That’s good, so he said to He Bing and his group: ”It’s raining outside, don’t go back, the road is dangerous.

How about this, you guys just stay in Weng City for now, to avoid the Zombies outside.

Let’s wait until the weather clears up and then go together to the neighboring city to find a lathe.”

Hearing Li Yu’s suggestion, He Bing and his group were delighted.

Although they had found a shelter outside which was relatively safe,

it was only relative to other buildings around, and couldn’t compare with the Big Camphor Tree Base which had tall walls and people on duty at all times.

They couldn’t ask for more!

He Bing quickly said: ”Thank you, Director Li.”

The companions behind him expressed their gratitude in turn.

Li Yu thought for a moment and pointed to a house previously constructed in Weng City, saying, ”You guys can take shelter from the rain there for now. It’s not a big place, just make do.”

This place was originally prepared as a research lab for Bai Jie, but it was too small and located on the outer edge of Weng City, so it was relocated.

It moved to the Weng City situated between the Inner City and Outer City.

Speaking of this.

Currently, the base had only one Outer City, and from the Outer City to the Inner City, there was another Weng City, which was sandwiched between the Inner and Outer City.

It wasn’t that Li Yu was too paranoid, but in the event that more people were admitted to the Outer City in the future, some extra preparations were necessary.

And the Weng City where He Bing and his group were staying at was the main Weng City.

They expressed their thanks when they heard Li Yu’s arrangement.

Li Yu communicated with them for a while, and after about fifteen minutes, seeing that He Bing and his group had no issues, he led the people who had come down to the wall of the base.

Li Yu was always cautious. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust what He Bing had said, but it was just his nature to be cautious. Fifteen minutes had passed, and if nobody had turned into a Zombie, it meant that no one had been bitten.

After Li Yu climbed the wall, He Bing and his group, thrilled, parked their vehicles and entered the small room Li Yu had pointed out to them earlier.

The house was small, less than 30 square meters, with each person getting less than two or three square meters on average.

But it was enough for them.

Able to shelter from wind and rain and to avoid Zombies, it couldn’t be better.

...

After finishing these matters, the rain in the sky gradually grew heavier.

After a while, the sentries dispatched by He Chao also rushed back.

Fortunately, none were injured.

Li Yu had also arrived at the Outer City by this time, where He Chao and his group were.

Upon reaching the Outer City, Li Yu saw the originally constructed houses, with each room not big, but numerous.

After communicating with Captain Luo yesterday, Second Uncle arranged for Captain Luo and his group to stay in the houses of the Outer City.

Now, Li Yu came to Captain Luo’s room.

As he entered, he saw Captain Luo sighing. Thinking it over, he smiled and said, ”Old Luo.”

Captain Luo turned around and saw Li Yu, and said with a bitter smile, ”Director Li, ah, look at this rain. It looks like I can’t leave now.”

Li Yu nodded and said, ”It’s okay, just stay here and relax. The part allocated to you is outside; I’ve had people take care of the food so it won’t get rained on.

Don’t worry.

Just focus on healing. It’s raining, so take your time to recover.”

Captain Luo sighed and said, ”Ah, been out for so long, I don’t know how Old Ye and the others are doing now.”

Li Yu didn’t say much, politely greeted, and then went downstairs.

As he descended, he encountered He Chao. Actually, He Chao had seen Li Yu when he first arrived, but seeing that Li Yu went straight upstairs to find Captain Luo, he didn’t follow.

When Li Yu saw He Chao, he asked, ”Is there anything wrong?”

He Chao glanced upstairs, approached Li Yu, and spoke in a low voice, ”We kept an eye on them yesterday, there was no unusual activity.”

Li Yu smiled and nodded. He had not asked He Chao to do this.

Unexpectedly, He Chao was so understanding.

So, giving He Chao some instructions, he left directly.

This downpour, came so unexpectedly.
