”Now, let us resume the Gym Challenge between Blackthorn Gym Leader Clair and Ash from Pallet Town...”

Kaburagi recited the match rules again according to protocol.

”Ash, my first one is still this one. Go, Kingdra!” said Clair.

”Then I’m the same. Milotic, I choose you!”

Ash’s choice was the same as yesterday, but his tactical choice was completely different.

”Milotic, use Attract.”

Milotic twisted its body, displaying its beautiful figure before Kingdra. In Kingdra’s eyes, Milotic’s image soared rapidly, its blood surged, and its originally fierce gaze flickered with traces of affection.

In less than three seconds, Kingdra was like a simp, leaning in toward Milotic to fawn over it.

Seeing this, Clair couldn’t help but cover her forehead and shake her head.

Embarrassing!

How embarrassing!

Since she took over as Gym Leader, she had never produced such a record.

If she had known this would be the result, she would have skipped this round with Kingdra and just finished with a 2v2 against Ash.

Now, if this recording were sent to the League, her Blackthorn Gym’s reputation would be ruined.

Clair symbolically called for Kingdra to attack three times, but Kingdra didn’t react at all.

Seeing this, Kaburagi immediately announced, ”Kingdra has lost the will to fight. Milotic wins this match. Gym Leader, please switch your Pokémon.”

”Milotic won so easily! I didn’t expect the move Attract could be used like this,” Misty exclaimed.

”This should only be so easy for the same Egg Group. Ash has said something similar before. Although Milotic is not a Dragon-type Pokémon, she can breed with many Dragon-type Egg Group Pokémon. It seems Kingdra’s Egg Group is the same as Milotic’s,” Brock explained.

Misty was amazed by this, ”There’s such a theory?”

”Not sure, but that’s what Ash said.” Brock wasn’t very sure either; he wasn’t a researcher.

”Gyarados, it’s your turn!” Clair’s second contender was the Gyarados that had previously protected the Dratini.

[Pokémon: Gyarados (Clair)]

[Type: Water + Flying]

[Gender: Female]

[Level: Quasi-Elite Beginner]

[Ability: Intimidate (Intimidates opponents upon entry, making them flinch and lowering their Attack)]

[Potential: Elite]

[Skills: Water Gun, Hydro Pump, Dragon Dance...]

”As expected, it’s Gyarados? Come back, Milotic!” Ash recalled Milotic and took out another Poké Ball: ”I choose you, Gyarados!”

Seeing Ash’s Gyarados, Clair was stunned, ”A Shiny Gyarados?”

She had only heard of a red Gyarados and had never actually seen one. Moreover, looking at this Gyarados of Ash’s, neither its size nor the luster of its scales were inferior to hers.

”Gyarados, use Blizzard,” Ash shouted.

His Gyarados had previously gained experience from a high-end battle and was now at the Quasi-Elite intermediate level, one level higher than Clair’s. Its skill pool had also been filled by Ash spending money, though its skill proficiency and application ability were not as good as his other veteran Pokémon.

Buffeted by the Blizzard, Clair’s Gyarados was very uncomfortable. It could only dive into the water to avoid damage as much as possible, but the pool on the field was ultimately stagnant water, and parts of it had already begun to freeze under the intense Blizzard.

”Gyarados, use Dragon Pulse!” Clair said, refusing to be outdone. Her Gyarados burst out of the water and sprayed a dragon-shaped energy beam.

”Gyarados, use Protect.” As the attack arrived, Ash’s Gyarados erected a white barrier, blocking the Dragon Pulse attack.

Seeing the attack failed, Clair shouted, ”Gyarados, use Dragon Tail!” Her Gyarados twisted its body, and its massive tail slammed toward Ash’s Gyarados.

”Gyarados, dive into the water to dodge, then use Crunch!”

The Shiny Gyarados heard the command, shrank its body, and dived into the pool. It then swam to the side of the other Gyarados, dodging the Dragon Tail slam. Afterward, the Shiny Gyarados opened its mouth and bit down hard on the other Gyarados’s waist and abdomen.

The Crunch move hit, and Gyarados, in pain, twisted its body frantically trying to break free from the Shiny Gyarados’s big mouth.

”Gyarados, hold on, use Whirlpool to throw it off!” Clair shouted.

Gyarados resisted the Shiny Gyarados’s bite and unleashed Whirlpool. A fierce vortex of water formed around it. The rapid rotation of the water created centrifugal force that pulled the Shiny Gyarados, forcing it to release its grip, and under the rotation of the Whirlpool, the Shiny Gyarados was thrown onto the shore.

Seeing this, Ash’s lips curled up slightly, ”Gyarados, now, use Thunderbolt!”

Thunderlight surged over the Shiny Gyarados, and then a bolt of lightning as thick as a bucket shot out from it. The lightning landed in the pool, dealing maximum damage. Under the condition of a 4x weakness to Electric, the Gyarados only lasted three seconds before losing consciousness.

If his own Gyarados were in the water, Ash would never have let it use Thunderbolt. After all, water conducts electricity. A battle style that hurts the enemy by a thousand while hurting oneself by eight hundred is something no one would choose if there were any other options.

”Gyarados is unable to battle...” As Kaburagi’s voice fell, Clair only had one Pokémon left.

”Misty, Brock, how is the battle going?” At this moment, Liza arrived late.

”Currently, it’s a record of three hundred battles and three hundred losses. No, honestly, it’s an uncountable string of consecutive defeats, but...” Brock shamelessly took Liza’s hand and began recounting his romantic history.

His appearance made Liza feel very puzzled. In any case, she couldn’t understand why Brock’s skin could be so thick.

”Enough! No one wants to know about your romantic history! You have to know the occasion for being a simp!” Misty angrily reached out and pulled him to the other side.

Misty explained to Liza, ”Ms. Liza, the current situation is that Ash has already won two rounds.”

”Finished two rounds so quickly?” Liza felt a bit surprised.

”Yes, in the first round, Ash’s Milotic used the move Attract, causing Ms. Clair’s Kingdra to lose the will to fight directly. The second time was just like this, Gyarados versus Gyarados.”

”Ash, my last contender is this one. Go, Dragonair!” Clair brought out her last trump card.

After Dratini evolved into Dragonair, its strength skyrocketed, soaring from the original Gym Beginner level to the current Quasi-Elite intermediate level, becoming a stronger Pokémon than her Gyarados.

”Dragonair, we have no retreat left. Use Hyper Beam.”

”Gyarados, we’ll use Hyper Beam too.”

The horn on Dragonair’s head gathered energy, shooting out a ray of astonishing power. The Shiny Gyarados, refusing to be outdone, opened its mouth to spray Hyper Beam.

The two powerful Hyper Beams collided, producing a violent explosion.

”Gyarados, come back! Let’s draw a perfect period to the final Gym Challenge of our Johto journey. I choose you, Charizard!”

Ash swapped out Gyarados for Charizard.

The sense of accomplishment from a sweep is indeed high, but this is not what Ash wanted. With so many Pokémon in his hands, he couldn’t favor one over the other and only use the strong ones. Giving each Pokémon a turn, sharing the glory equally, is the motivation that drives Pokémon to strive for improvement.

Seeing that the two’s battling Pokémon could both fly, Kaburagi opened the mechanism on the Gym’s roof and said, ”Then for the final battle, we will use a battle field that can be used for sea, land, and air to conduct the match.”
