Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 125: 125 Timely Rain

Everyone was present, and the hostess began to serve dishes. Lv Beiguang also took two bottles of wine out of his bag.

”The last of my private stash.”

The food today was a bit better than last time, and there was quite a bit of seafood.

”Big sister, can you still get this?” Jiang Xinyu was quite surprised.

”Yes, we’re just over a hundred miles from the seaside, it’s not impossible to get it.”

”A hundred miles isn’t too far. When shall we bike over there? Even if we just bring back some seaweed, that would be great.”

”Can you really bike over there? Wouldn’t it take a whole day?” She Xiaoyun looked at Jiang Xinyu in surprise and asked.

”Why not? We don’t have a car, so we can only bike.”

”Xinyu, I want to go. I need to learn how to bike.”

”Sure, you can learn on the way back.”

”Going to the seaside is just to get some seafood to eat; it’s dry over there too.”

”Anyway, I want to make a trip there. It must be better than here, people shouldn’t be starving, right? At the very least, you can go into the sea and eat some fish and shrimp.”

”Xinyu, are you really going?” She Xiaoyun asked.

”Yes, I plan to leave next Friday night, we’ll get there by Saturday morning somehow, and return on Sunday without missing work. Does anyone know the way?”

”I’m going with you. My grandma’s house is there, I’ll guide you.” Meng Fanxing chimed in.

”Great, anyone else want to join the group?”

No one understood? ”Is there anyone else who wants to go with us? We’ll bring more money and some baskets or something, we can definitely bring back food.”

A few people looked at Jiang Xinyu’s excited expression, and Lv Beiguang, who still had revolutionary camaraderie, said, ”I’ll go with you. Secretary Jiang, you get excited whenever food is mentioned, truly hopeless.”

It was the same back when they were in Russia. She didn’t understand anything, but Jiang Xinyu took her to eat all sorts of strange things.

”Isn’t it to improve our lives? Otherwise, we have nothing to do over the weekend; we might as well treat it as a trip.”

”Then I’ll join too, I’ll partner up with you for the trip,” said She Xiaoyun, who was the second to sign up.

But whether she was going for Jiang Xinyu or Lv Beiguang was uncertain.

In the end, all ten people present agreed to go, and they set the departure for next Friday night at 9 o’clock in front of the supply and marketing co-op.

”I’ve biked there before; at a normal pace, it takes about eight hours. It’s not too tiring.”

Hou Wenquan thought for a moment, ”Shall we bring some things to trade? I’ll bring the plates and bowls I’ve collected over time.”

”Great idea!”

Everyone chatted animatedly with Hou Wenquan about using this week’s lunchtimes to pick up defective goods.

”Alright, everyone’s welcome to join.”

After finishing their meal, they didn’t let Jiang Xinyu pay.

”Do you think it’s going to rain?” Hao Shichao looked up at the sky and asked.

Everyone also looked up, ”Doesn’t look like it? But the weather is indeed very stuffy.”

”Whatever happens, let’s hurry back.”

On the way, Wang Ailing also learned how to ride a bike.

”Xinyu, I learned too.”

”Sis, you learned quickly. We have another bike at home. On Friday night, you can ride that one, though it’s higher than mine. Secretary Hao, can we borrow your bike for practice?”

”Sure, no problem.”

Hao Shichao and Wang Ailing switched bikes, ”Xinyu, I can ride.”

”Secretary Jiang, riding a new bike is indeed easier.” Hao Shichao, who was of medium height at about 172 cm, could manage a women’s bike as well.

After entering the county area, they parted ways, and Jiang Xinyu took Wang Ailing back to the factory.

Sometimes Jiang Xinyu really felt like her bad luck hadn’t passed; she unexpectedly ran into Kong Mengjie at this time.

”You two went out to play?”

”Yeah, Kong Mengjie where are you headed?”

”I also want to go out for a walk.”

”Oh, then I won’t disturb you. Sis, I’m leaving.”

Jiang Xinyu rode away on her bike, unwilling to have any involvement.

Kong Mengjie looked at the sweaty Wang Ailing, ”Where did you guys go?”

”I went to learn how to bike. Mengjie, I’m too hot, I’m going in first.”

She wouldn’t tell Kong Mengjie everything; she had known since childhood that she was someone with a particularly strong sense of jealousy. If she told her that Xinyu took her out to eat with friends, who knows how upset Kong Mengjie would get.

Kong Mengjie no longer felt like going out. She initially wanted to take a walk because she was feeling too restless in the dormitory. Seeing the two of them, she felt even more uncomfortable and decided to go back.

Jiang Xinyu was able to rent a place outside; she also wanted to move out. It’s too annoying to stay with seven other people all the time.

But thinking of Zhao Zhongshuo and Huang Hongwei, who had beaten her with smiling faces, she dismissed the idea.

Zhao Zhongshuo was completely ruined; there’s no need to get entangled with him.

Still, her heart felt a bit troubled towards him. After all, he was quite good to her, and it was all because of Huang Hongwei.

Men can be quite childish when they get jealous. Luckily, she didn’t let Zhao Zhongshuo succeed last time, or she’d never get rid of him.

Zhao Zhongshuo admitted to those things he did, but claimed he didn’t steal those parts. Does he think she stole them and left them on his bed?

Kong Mengjie got furious thinking about this. How is it related to her?

Feeling more irritable, she unconsciously walked to the workshop’s entrance.

Realizing she was there, she dejectedly returned.

Why can’t Jiang Xinyu befriend her? If she had such a friend, life would be smoother. Wang Ailing was practically guaranteed her regular position; such good luck to get this opportunity in less than a year.

She had tried to please Jiang Xinyu and couldn’t understand why she was still avoiding her.

Confused, Kong Mengjie returned to the dormitory, where two colleagues on night shift were napping. It was too stuffy to stay inside, so she decided to sit outside instead.

Putting Kong Mengjie’s frustration aside, when Jiang Xinyu got home, she took the water that was drying in the yard and brought it to the bathroom for a refreshing shower.

She put on a tank top and shorts, went back to her room, and lay down.

Wondering when they’ll get electricity, if so, there’s a desktop fan in her space.

She fell asleep thinking about it until she was startled awake, seeing the dark sky outside, with howling winds slamming the windows shut.

Jiang Xinyu grinned. Is it going to rain? Rainwater is now more precious than oil.

She quickly ran out to grab the clothes hanging in the yard, then closed the bathroom windows.

After checking again to ensure nothing needed protection from the rain, she noticed the sky looked like it was about to fall, quite terrifying.

After closing the windows, the house became too hot. Jiang Xinyu moved a stool to sit at the entrance of the main hall, feeling much more comfortable this way.

She held a bag of milk while watching the loosely swaying cucumber vines outside, thinking she should harvest them soon.

Before she could act, a flash of lighting nearly blinded her, instantly followed by thunder rumbling as if on the roof.
