Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 113: 113 A Real Eye-Opener

Thinking there’s nothing to do in the afternoon and no rush to go back, she decides to loiter around outside and maybe explore the building with the tickets in hand.

Coming at this time, the building is quite peaceful. She buys two bags of milk powder and two bags of malted milk, consumables that need to be stocked up.

”Why is the rain so light? Will it be enough for the fields? Ugh!”

Jiang Xinyu hears a few salespeople chatting casually. She also notices the issue: the roads here aren’t muddy.

She notices a stall selling fermented tofu but the smell is so strong; she’s worried it will linger in the space, so decides against it.

She takes a stroll upstairs, buying a few exquisite notebooks and two fountain pens.

Everything seems nice, but since the city also has them, she opts not to purchase more.

Outside the building, she suddenly hears a commotion ahead.

Her legs betray her heart and follow the crowd to the scene.

Standing at a height of about 1.6 meters, Jiang Xinyu can’t see what’s happening inside the circle. She only hears a woman’s cursing and another woman’s crying.

Curiosity wins over. She squeezes inside. In this entertainment-lacking time, how could a lively scene not attract people?

She listens in, hearing indecent curses and the sound of slaps, which sound painful. Has the wife caught the mistress? Jiang Xinyu becomes even more curious and squeezes in harder. She finally sees two women inside: one assaulting the other who’s sitting on the ground crying with clothes torn apart.

”Everyone look at this shameless vixen! Are you really that desperate for a man?” The woman with explosive combat power starts tearing the clothes off the woman on the ground.

”No, let go.” The woman on the ground crying scarcely cares about her head and face.

Gripping her clothes, she fears they’ll really be torn off.

Jiang Xinyu sees the girl’s face and is shocked. Isn’t that Secretary Tong?

Feeling a bit sorry for her, Jiang Xinyu thinks although her character isn’t great, she’s still a girl. If she were stripped in public, how could a girl bear it?

She rushes through the crowd and stops an elderly lady, ”Excuse me, where’s the police station?”

”Just turn left up ahead and go straight, and you’ll see it.”

Jiang Xinyu says thank you and runs off, hoping Secretary Tong can hold on.

Arriving at the police station, out of breath, Jiang Xinyu explains the situation outside.

Two officers immediately run out, and Jiang Xinyu no longer has the mood to watch the commotion.

It’s normal for Secretary Tong to end up like this, knowing full well the man had a family and choosing to intervene. It really is a matter of character. Yet, she is still a woman.

She sighs and heads to the hotel. It’s better to quietly stay in her room. What luck is this, discovering such an explosive news in just one day?

Lying on the bed, the scene of Secretary Tong being beaten keeps replaying in her mind. Why didn’t she see Director Yuan? Men, indeed!

Jiang Xinyu surmises it must’ve been the director’s wife catching them in bed, but why hassle a woman? It takes two to tango. If you don’t handle your man and instead humiliate a woman violently, it’s really unfair.

If a man didn’t have the intention, there wouldn’t be any extramarital affairs.

Feeling a bit frustrated, Jiang Xinyu thinks it’s not worth it for Secretary Tong. Having interacted a few times, she knows the girl’s essential nature is decent.

How will she live on after this? Can she still continue here?

Without realizing, she falls asleep, waking up at five in the afternoon. It’s nice since she won’t be too sleepy for the ten o’clock train ride. She goes downstairs to inform the front desk she plans to check out at half-past nine.

Having rested an entire afternoon, her arms and legs feel stiff. She decides to go out to eat.

She heads to a restaurant, finding it only offers cold noodles with sweet potato flour in the evening. The texture is smooth and chewy but the sauce is just chunky red pickled vegetables.

After eating, it’s already half-past six. She decides to bathe before boarding to avoid discomfort.

Before she can move, she hears people nearby discussing the afternoon’s event.

”Those two women were taken to the police station. What’s the situation now?”

”What good could come of it? Do you know who the man was?”

”Did you see the man?”

”I only saw a back view running with pants held up.”

”I know, I know!”

A man eating on the side moves closer to the gossiping table.

”I passed by the police station this afternoon, hearing a woman crying inside.”

”Is that all you know?”

”No, I heard something about a textile factory, something about Director Yuan.”

”Wow! That’s explosive!”

”Indeed!”

The rest is just crude jokes among a group of men. Jiang Xinyu doesn’t continue listening and heads back to the hotel at seven.

After showering, she comfortably lies on the bed, waiting for the time.

At nine-twenty, she goes downstairs to check out, gets her deposit back, and strolls to the train station.

Boarding the platform, she directly finds the sleeper car, avoiding the need to squeeze in.

When she disembarks, it’s half-past six in the evening. She decides to go home quickly, not washing up or changing clothes feels unbearable.

At half-past eight, she arrives at the textile factory and heads directly to Qian Jun’s office.

”Mr. Qian, I’m back.”

”Mm, you came back alone?”

”Yes, the station isn’t far from my home. Mr. Qian, here’s the application with the provincial governor’s signature and stamp.”

”Thank you for your effort, take a day off to rest.”

”No need, I took the sleeper train back.”

Mr. Qian, does everyone know we’re getting raw materials?”

”Yeah, there’s enough material in the warehouse for two months. We need to hurry.”

”I’d say everyone’s wearing smiles.”

”Mr. Qian, these are my travel documents.”

”Alright, go to the finance department.”

Jiang Xinyu returns to her office, tidies up, and goes to the finance department. It’s already June and she hasn’t received her May salary; she needs reimbursement as well.

Reimbursement is a nuisance; all tickets, lodging, and meal receipts must be attached together. Then Jiang Xinyu takes them to Mr. Qian for a signature, followed by the finance department’s head. By noon, she finally gets her money.

Still, she is quite happy. Her travel allowance plus salary amounts to over eighty yuan, equivalent to a director’s pay.

Having money in her pocket feels wonderful, as she heads to the canteen to eat.

She sees the main character with lowered head eating, sitting next to Zhao Zhongshuo.

”Xinyu, you’re back?”

”Yes, I’ll get some food first.” Honestly, she doesn’t want to contact the main character much; she’s too overwhelmed by the protagonist’s luck.

”Xinyu, I’ll wait for you.”

”Okay, I’ll come find you in a while.” There’s no escaping it, but no fear either. It’s just the main character, isn’t it? Yet she really feels apprehensive, shivering slightly at the thought.
